I should have mentioned this as well. Dachau was the pilot program for almost every other camp. The extermination camps I can't speak to.

Dachau was...heavy. I can't describe it as evil necessarily, but the weight of almost the entire place was palpable. The "rifle range" and "pistol range" were the worst, I think. Much worse than the gas chamber.

My Grandpa was a tank gunner in the 20th Armored that liberated Dachau. I wish I would have been older because he was the type that had no problem talking about his experiences in war. I do remember him saying that all the soldiers went from extreme disgust at what they found to extreme fury. Said he'd never forget surrounding the guards and letting the prisoners beat them to death and if he could have went back in time he would've done it again

When I was about 7 or 8, I came home from school before my brother or parents did. It was the same each day. Get off the bus, walk home, lock the door, bookbag on the floor, TV on and watch GIJoe and an episode of Transformers and right after that someone was usually also home.

One day, was doing exactly that. Nothing weird happened. No weird weather. No noises. Nothing different. GIJoe was on.

Out of nowhere, I froze and my body went fight/flight and my mind went 1000 MPH. I didn't want to move my head or look around or behind me. I just stayed still and instantly started sweating.

All I could think about was something 'bad' was there and how I was going to need to get up, run to the front door and get out as fast as I could. I sat there running through my head which hand would unlock the door, how am I getting out. Frozen I finally got up and launched myself down the hallway, got the door open, ran across the street and just stood there for 45 minutes looking at the open front door. I stood there until my mom came home and asked WTF was I doing standing on the other side of the street outside.

I remember it all like it was yesterday,

In Afghanistan there were a handful of times that I knew exactly who we were looking for by 'feel' if that makes any sense.

I've posted before that you could feel it in the air when you were getting close to a site where evil stuff was happening in Iraq. I wasn't spiritual at all (100% realist/materialist) back then and still felt it as did others.

Honestly even when I go back to the NYC area these past few years it feels similar. Just like an emptyness in the air.

My grandmother's basement in La Junta, Co. We would visit her maybe once a year. Every time I went down there it was creepy as fuck. Just a standard basement with jars of food, cans, etc on shelves, maybe some boxes of junk - nothing else of interest. I wouldn't go down there without my older sister. She never had a problem with it, just me. I have no idea what was up there.

At that age (<10yo) I had been in plenty of other basements and always thought they were cool places.

The house I grew up in. There are a lot of weird unexplainable things about the house, but after we moved my whole family admitted to feeling very uncomfortable in the house alone.

I was younger, so at the time I was a little embarrassed about having childish fears of the dark and being alone. After I moved that all went away without thinking about it.

One reason I was scared of the dark in my room was my radio randomly turning on in the middle of the night. It would wake me up and I'd stare into my dark closet like something was hiding in there.

I've always wanted to stop by and ask the owners if they think it's haunted.

My experience of a sense of evil was a place and not a person or entity. It happened in the mountains of Northern Colorado along the Wyoming border many years ago. It was actually close to the area I had written about several years before in GD's long thread about creepy/scary occurrences. However, even though this experience took place near there, it was at a higher elevation and happened several years after that original creepy occurrence from back when we were scouting out hunting locations along old fire/logging trails.

This time I was alone and doing some exploring for old mines or ghost towns. I came upon an area that I initially thought was part of an old Topaz mine but when studying my maps it was clear that this area was too far north. It must of been an old logging camp at one time. This was in a "checkerboard" area of public and private land that the UPRR owned for logging its RR track ties. This particular place was a mix of two old dilapidated buildings along with two that appeared to have been fixed up at one time. However, even the repaired buildings looked long neglected from no recent use. Anyway, once I started poking around I got this weird feeling of dread and evil. Like I was being watched by something/someone with an evil intent. I left very quickly and once I was gone those weird feelings dissolved. Never wanted to go back.

I went to a Tilted Kilt restaurant with a friend several years ago and felt a VERY strong presence of something evil there.  No, it wasn't because the waitresses were in short skits and this isn't a parody.  Something felt seriously evil.  I'm not sure what it was.  Once we left the restaurant the feeling ceased.  I'm not a medium or anything like that.   I have come across evil people as a LEO, but this was different and much stronger.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Yeah, all us USPSA’ers / IDPA’ers used to go to a Tilted Kilt south of St. Louis after our matches.  That was almost 20 years ago.

It wasn’t so much a vibe of evil there at the Tilted Kilt.  It was :

A.  A sense of a lot of meth or other drugs being consumed by the waitresses

B.  How young the waitresses looked….not quite a pedophile thing, but close

C.  These same waitresses put out a vibe that they would have blown you in the bathroom for $20

D.  If Tilted Kilt is still open now in 2025, then I bet every waitress there has her own Only Fans page

E.  All of the above….

As far as feeling like I am in the presence of evil….

YEAH!  Just every time I drive into work at Big Oil.

Do you remember the first Star Wars, when Luke, Han, Chewie, and Obi first put eyes on the Death Star?

That’s the sense of dread I get every time I head into work.

Our little crude distillation unit was down for a couple of weeks about 2 months ago.

They have this big flat screen TV above our control room board/console.  It shows the results of some algorithm that displays our “loss profit opportunity”.  It was in the red to the tune of a -$465,000 per day.

So huge profit margins can forgive a lot of sins, and a bunch of sketchy shit gets swept under the rug.

I was there a few months ago on 6th August.  Friend of mine lives near that big ass boulder a few miles west of Lincoln so we had afternoon chow courtesy of his wonderful (and soon to be ex-wife) and then we drove into Lincoln and they gave us the full tour.  I used to live in Portales and drove through Lincoln a few times back in the ‘80s but never stopped and toured the town.  I didn’t feel anything evil, but the “town” didn’t feel…peaceful…either, come to think of it.

Evil in that area:
We had a ranch with a historical tie to the Lincoln County War. Originally owned by a participant that ran with BTK.

A few years ago a man walked off the highway and murdered our caretaker with an axe. I have no doubt he is evil personified. He got picked up, bloody, on the highway and then shot an officer in the hospital with his own gun.

We never were comfortable there again, and sold the place.

I've been several places over the years where I had that feeling of evil. Most were nothing special, just normal looking places. The one recognizable area where I felt evil is South of the Border on the NC/SC state line. I haven't been there in years but everytime I would go it gave me the same feeling. There very well could exist an entire society of demons/aliens living all around us.  We can't see but a fraction of what reality is.  Our brains act as a 'filter' to keep us from being overwhelmed with information.

“The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far. The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us little; but some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new dark age.”

I've never been to a place that I would describe as evil and I've met some very bad folks, but my oldest uncle is one of the very few people I would ever describe as "evil". The second time my wife and I took our grandson to one of the massive arcades in a casino. All the noise and neon made the place feel like I was Alice in Wonderland on a mushroom trip. But the more I looked around, the more I noticed that blended in with all the young children running around, innocently feeding their dopamine receptors, were middle aged males. Playing children games alone, or tucked back into corners pretending not to watch. I didn't get the same level of 'knowing' that I did with the first experience, but there was a constant buzz of awareness that evil was around. It really made me wonder how there is not  a constant stream of missing children reports centered around casinos with arcades.

I came across a similar guy I could just sense had evil intentions in a WalMart parking lot. A mom with 3 kids (one baby in a carseat in the cart, a 2yo and probably 5yo) came out to her car and began loading up. I noticed a disheveled guy that anybody would call 'creepy' just staring at them from a row over. I walked into his line of sight and just looked him in the eyes until he sauntered off and the mom finally got loaded up and left.

Another thing that comes to mind. I had to deal with a city civil engineering department head that always gave me trouble. We'd sit across the table to determine a course of action and shake on it, then the next day he'd completely throw everything out. Neither here nor there, but just to say I didn't care for the guy. He was heavyset but carried himself in a dainty way.
One day I saw his face in the paper, and he had been arrested for molesting his young nieces for years. I never picked up any of that kind of vibe

Another evil person: My friend has a nephew that he just knows is evil. He showed some pics of the kid to me, and he is a good looking kid, but for the 'dead doll eyes.' The rest of the family other than the kid's mom know something isn't right, and the kid's own grandfather won't allow him to be around the other grandkids without adults in the room even though nothing has ever actually happened. As the kid is getting older my friend can tell that the kid is learning that people are picking up on that something isn't right with him, and he is adjusting his persona to compensate... but the dead eyes remain.

Not outwardly evil, but I was clearly reminded that the God I worship was not in focus there. It was a terrible and unique feeling, and I don't really know how to describe it.

On the contrary, I've experienced the opposite in some shithole countries where Christianity is starting to take hold.

I was canoeing through the Dead Stream Swamp once, a very large and very remote cedar swamp in northern Michigan, and wayyy out in the middle of it the hairs on the back of my neck were suddenly standing up and I was instantly in red-alert mode for some reason.  At first I thought maybe there was a bear around and I was sensing it (huge bear population there) but then I look at the edge of the channel I was in and see a very clear barefoot human footprint in the mud.  The place I was in is not even accessible without a boat of some kind, and I knew nobody else was out there because I had to chainsaw fallen trees to get into the area, and it was spring and it was clear nobody had been in there yet that season.  When I got back to the landing area my own footprints from putting my canoe in had already filled in, so whoever made that barefoot human footprint in the mud must have done so just before I got to that point.  Pretty insane.

The swamp is well known for many disappearances and all sorts of other weird stuff happening.

10 years ago when we were looking for a new house.  We were looking in my wife's hometown for a decent fixer-upper to purchase.  Realtor went in to this very quaint house we really liked that was off the beaten path a bit.  House was draped by oak trees and shaded for the most part, as well as the entire yard basically.  Opened the front door and immediately knew something was off.  House looked as if it was locked up years ago and simply left alone to fend for itself.  Two story with the stairway right inside the foyer directly in front of you, going up.  House was completely furnished and looked like it was not kept up in quite a while.  Dishes were in the sink, still dirty, house smelled of rotten food and probably lord know what else.  Found a ladies purse with DL and credit cards laying on the counter that I figured was original owner's.  Clothes were still in the dirty clothes hamper in bathroom, closets, etc...  Walked to foot of the stairs and finally felt the full gravity of the situation.  The 2nd floor was dark and felt just kinda "off".  At the top of the stairs, the carpet was removed from the landing and down about 5-6 steps.  Sheetrock was removed from the top of the landing on the left of the stairwell, and at that point I knew, or figured out what happened.  The previous owner came home and blew her brains out at the top of the stairs for some reason or another.  Her parents literally locked the front door and never went back into the house.  The feeling was dark and heavy in there for sure.  We never went up to the second floor.  Got the hell out of there and didnt look back.  It later sold and was remodeled, but that place just gave me the willies every time I thought about it.

My buddy bought a new [to him] house bitd. Was an older craftsman style about 2200sf. Same thing, walked down basement steps and got a cold chill and an overwhelming sense of evil/doom. GTFO'd immediately and never went back in that house.

I've told this story before, but I was in 5th grade walking to an after school function for Halloween. I was just getting dark. I had to cut across a park with woods to take the shortest route. Could see a little in the park area but the woods were already black.

I walked 20-30 feet into the park and stopped dead in my tracks. I felt a serious sense of dread like a like evil was watching me. I turned around and walked the long way around through a lit up neighborhood. My parents picked me up after the function.

Next morning in school we learned a kid I knew from school had came by 5-10 minutes after me. But he walked into the park and some 15-17yo teens drug him into the woods, castrated/mutilated him, and then murdered him.  That was an odd one as an 10yo to realize and understand.

Whats really fucked is about ten years later I was dating a chick from 20 miles away from where that happened. One day a new dude was in her house. As I walked in the same wave of dread and evil hit me. I looked at the dude and he was burning a hole in me.

GF and I leave and i ask who that guy was. Oh, that's my creepy new step-brother. He just got out of jail for killing a kid in xyz-town back in the day. It was the same murder I barely avoided. IT seemed like that evil fuck sensed who I was, and wanted to finish the job. Quite unsettling to cross paths with the same evil, twice.

In elementary school, my friend Patrick's house. There was a bedroom in the basement. Pretty normal/boring to look at, but it just had this ominous feeling in there. Kind of dready, negative, and you just felt like you shouldn't be in there. Him and his brother felt it too, and they wouldn't go in there. Just stood by the door watching me. Few years later when I got confirmed, my pastor was asking us if we ever felt exactly what I just explained. She said "that's evil, you were in the presence of evil." Right then it clicked and I remembered what I felt in there and was all .

The other time I was in Costco.  There was a dude in there, I believe Russian... certainly Slavic... who gave off a vibe that I can't describe.  He avoided eye contact to the extreme.  Creeped out to say the least, to the point I mentioned it to the wife.

Later, I mentioned it to a friend of mine who is a Judge, and asked him if he thought I was crazy.

"Nope, you were both predators and recognized each other."

I LOVE these threads. They draw me in like a magnet.

They always leave me wanting to experience something like this (perhaps a misguided desire), but I never have.

When I was younger and dumber, I used to be quite an urban explorer. Abandoned meat packing plants, breweries, cellars, caves, industrial facilities, tunnels, underground quarries, hopsitals, and military installations. It was fun, and often conducted at night. I remember being in the attic of a (now demolished) hospital and the only thing up there was an infant-sized iron lung. I remember a military mapping installation (also now demolished) with maps strewn all over the floor, or a tunnel network under an old munitions plant.

Never once did I feel a "presence" or anything "evil". On rare occasion you could tell there was a scrapper, hobo, meth head, or some other ne'er-do-well elsewhere in the building and would quickly leave. But that's it.

Honestly even when I go back to the NYC area these past few years it feels similar. Just like an emptyness in the air.

Our FOB in Baghdad was a Saddam era Iraqi Intel base. The basement had cells and is where they tortured people. It was locked up and people weren't allowed to go touring it or whatever.

The good news is Saddam was hung pretty close to that building. I think it was chosen on purpose.

Downtown Houston at the courthouse doing my jury duty. Sitting in the hall on a break and this Hispanic girl came out of a different court.

She was a good looking girl, hair drawn tight and dressed all in black. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if she’s been slitting throats for a cartel. There was something really dangerous about her. Something deeply unsettling.

Yes I have.

When I was a kid there was a large wooded area behind my parents house. All of us neighborhood kids played in those woods.
Trees were a mix of live oaks, pecan, and mesquite. Lots of thick brush.
There was this one large live oak in that wood that spooked the hell out of me.
It looked like a typical oak tree. Nothing special but when I would  walk under it the hair on my neck would stand up. Just an eerie as hell feeling.
Never felt anything like that anywhere else.
That tree still stands. I haven't been under it in 50yrs tho.

I love how there are two distinct reactions when someone is about to act with violence:
"$%^&, I'm about to need a lawyer!"
or
"Hell yeah, Imma get a CONUS kill!"

Two I've mentioned a few times over the years.

Feeding chickens out back, 150 feet or so behind the house. Something I'd done hundreds of times before with no issue. Late evening. Suddenly felt something watching me and knew I was about to die if I didn't get to the house RFN... I ran all the way back and never looked behind me. The most terrified I've ever been.

Second, same place. Friend and I were floating around in a canoe in a pond on the front half of the same property. There was a bush growing out of the middle of the pond (multiple bushes came out of the water, it wasn't unusual). We had dug it, so it wasn't an old pond or anything. Something had always really bothered me about this bush but I hadn't mentioned it to anyone. It felt really creepy to have my back to it for some reason, like it was evil somehow. Anyway, I was facing it, and my friend (think he was around 13ish at the time) was lounging with his back to it in the front of the canoe. I casually said "Hey, is there anything weird about that bush?" And he immediately said "YEAH, it feels like there's a demon staring at me ".

We got out of the pond shortly after. I never did figure out what the deal was.

I've had spidey sense since then but not that strong.

There is a spot in the road on the drive out to my cabin.  Maybe 3 - 4 miles before.  Road is narrow with a near vertical rock wall on one side and a guardrail / stream on the other.  There is a curve in the road that always gives me chills when I drive through it.  I can feel the temperature drop significantly for a few seconds until I pass.
