posted this yesterday. cumulative homicides in chicago (obamas home town) from 2011 through 2012 was over 6000 dead. so put that in perspective. 911 was a bad day but the changes it has caused in this country, two wars, up-armored police, huge surveillance budget, spying on citizens at every level, loss of freedoms and privacy, TSA searches are the result of 20+ muslim men on a shoe-string budget that could have been prevented if the fbi had listened to some of its own agents. fucking unbelievable. |

Since this is that thread. (I agree with the OP)
Never forget... Yes never forget the lost loved ones, and people who died that day. But. Are we going to let this event to continue to deprive us of our liberties? We lost so much from the aftermath. Is this going to be remembered like Pearl Harbor? Or is this something else? |

Our response to 9/11 was less than optimal to say the least.
In my opinion, we allowed ourselves to be successfully terrorized, the actions of the terrorists were permitted to have a significant impact on our politics, which is the goal of terrorists in the first place. The nation collectively suffered from shock, or PTSD, and our politicians and media did everything in their power to prolong and capitalize on it. That's been my take from the beginning, it has made a lot of people very angry when I've said so, but that's how I see it. |

OP is absolutely spot on.
We have grown government "protection" vastly in the years since 9-11-2001, and the cost for all those extra layers of "safety" has been liberty, and not just a little bit of it. The worst part of the deal is that, much like the expansion of the universe, it is not only expanding but accellerating. 9/11 pisses me off every year first because of the cowardly attack on our country, and second because of the cowardly response by our government. |

The Patriot Act and all the "Bush Conservatives" did far more to erode my freedoms than anyone up to this point so far. Fuck him and his Patriot Act.
