Maybe I'm wrong and am applying thermo fundamentals incorrectly, but more mass and thermal capacity in one area should stay cooler and absorb more of the thermal energy before it soaks into the rest of the components as the heat transfer is faster between larger temperature gradients. I think Wolfy is correct. A thinner area with less mass and should heat up faster allowing other areas to heat up faster aswell. He is correct with the chamber, more material = slower raise in temp, but then uses the exact opposite theory for the front profile. BUT eventually the thermal energy absorbed to that larger mass will eventually soak and transfer to everything else taking the entire system longer to cool. |

An interesting experiment would be to pin the gas tube at both ends and see how many more rounds you get. Obviously the center section becomes maleable once heated enough and the constant forward beating the BCG gives it, eventually pushes it out of the upper. I want to see some constrained beam thermal expansion! I bet it takes a whole 87 more rounds to pop the gas tube. |

I don’t think pinning it will make much of a difference. |

Surprised with their money that they didn't use 77 GMM or 77 Black Hills... |

Just a quick update guys! As Bill stated we are getting close to the release of the HBAR Autopsy. We took some time to run through and collect some questions in the thread. 600-some rounds. Not surprising, really. Gov’t profile strikes again, dumbest thing ever developed in the small arms world. It is a pleasant surprise that the barrel didn’t burst, another win for G’s CHF barrels. Kinda surprising the barrel bent enough to get a bullet stuck in the bore before the gas tube was fubar, though. But again, the barrel surviving that without going “pop” is another anecdote showing that their barrels are phenomenal. |

And this is why I dislike gov profile barrels. I’m really curious about the breakdown by G and analysis is. Milling into the barrel to get a better looks would be neat as well. |

Gov profile sucks. It’s apparent when you see how much better the Geissele profile barrel fared in this test. Really hope Geissele does an autopsy on this one too! I’d love to see what’s inside the barrel! |
