Both are overated and vile, but the Beatles music is better....
Ah! Now the poll comes! Well, for "entertaining and talented", I'd have to go with Elvis. A one-man show vs. a group? That's too easy.... |
Agreed. Both suck ass. Elvis wins cuz he gave the Prez a handgun. Imagine trying to do that in todays climate...Freakin imossible. It was my understanding he wasn't even frisked and nobody knew he was gonna give it. He just whipped it out and gave it to Nixon. That's kule |
I'm not a fan of either but Elvis was an American and from the south so he gets my vote.
Both overated…
Buddy Holly was better than Elvis, If he had not died he could have been huge. But Elvis is OK, Beatles are overated rubbish, The Rolling Stones were Waaaaay better. ANdy |
I recant my vote, as I didn't understand it at first. I voted for the Beatles originally.
Elvis was a better entertainer, but the Beatles music was by far better. I have everything the Beatles did, there's only about 5-6 Elvis songs I care for and I don't own any of them. I HAVE been to Graceland, though. It was kinda neat-it showed that a person with a substantial fortune can still stick to his roots. The place is nothing really fancy and even has some (dare I say?) kinda cheesy decorating. His gun collection kicked ass-especially the gold plated Python. I DID almost get my ass kicked for joking about jelly donuts at The King's gravesite. Rolling Stones better than the Beatles? Hmmmmmmmmm........NOT! I don't care if the Stones ARE still cranking out music-their popularity was never par to the Beatles and their range of music wasn't comparable either. I like some of the Stones stuff but again, like Elvis, I own none of it. I think "Get Yer Ya Yas Out" was a decent album |
I dont know how anyone could call the most important rock band in history "overrated".
I grew up with both. I remember clearly the excitement surrounding both. I like them both.
I don't care for either of them.
There are a few songs from each I do like. More Beatles than Elvis, unless you get into his Gospel music. The boy had SOUL for a whitey. Both were very influencial to early rock & roll, but that don't mean I have to like them. |

Beatles lyrics……… 'she love you yeah, yeah, yeah" versus…… Sympathy For The Devil (Jagger/Richards) "Please allow me to introduce myself I'm a man of wealth and taste I've been around for a long long year stolen many man's soul and faith I was around when Jesus Christ had His moment of doubt and pain Made damn sure that Pilate washed his hands and sealed His fate Pleased to meet you hope you guess my name But what's puzzling you is the nature of my game Stuck around St. Petersburg when I saw it was a time for a change Killed the Tzar and his ministers, Anastasia screamed in vain I rode a tank held a gen'rals rank when the blitzkrieg raged and the bodies stank Pleased to meet you hope you guess my name. Oh yeah Ah what's puzzling you is the nature of my game. Oh yeah I watched the glee while your kings and queens fought for ten decades for the Gods they made I shouted out "Who killed the Kennedy's?" when after all it was you and me Let me please intruduce myself I'm a man of wealth and taste And I lay traps for troubadors who get killed before they reach Bombay Pleased to meet you hope you guess my name. Oh yeah But what's puzzling you is the nature of my game. Oh yeah Pleased to meet you hope you guess my name But what's puzzling you is the nature of my game Just as every cop is a criminal and all the sinners, Saints as heads is tails, just call me Lucifer 'cause I'm in need of some restraint So if you meet me, have some courtesy have some sympathy and some taste Use all your well learned politesse or I'll lay your soul to waste Pleased to meet you hope you guess my name But what's puzzling you is the nature of my game" The Stones had a place just up the road from me in Bracklesham Bay when I was a kid… they were always in the news for the 'wrong reasons"… Andy |

I think it is funny these two are always being compared.
Without an Elvis there would be no Beatles. All of the Beatles have feely admitted they idolized Elvis and he was a huge influence on their music. |
Elvis was the king, thats why we have a federal "King Day" holiday on his birthday. ()
The beatles were just a bunch of hippies. |
Elvis joined the Army, thats why he's the king.
I can't stand the Beatles. Although I do like "The Walrus" |
elvis? fucking elvis presley who copied black dudes? how about the beatles, a band that started off cookie-cutter but then totally transformed themselves into the most influential band of all-time?
Elvis made $ 40 million last year and he's dead! how much did the beatles make? |
Beatles. Yes, without Elvis, the Beatles might now have gotten into music. But I just prefer their songs over his. His all sound the same.
Besides, when a Beatle dies, nobody speculates whether or not they really are dead. |
Oh yeah? What about that "Paul is dead" rumor that Paul had died and The Beatles secretly replaced him with a look-alike? |
i like the Beatles more...The White Album and Sgt.Pepper are some of the greatest rock albums ever created.
Oh, when you play "Number 9, number 9" backwards it's supposed to say "Turn me on, Dead Man"? And people trying to pull symbolism off the Abbey Road album cover? Ugh, give me a break. If it really was a look-alike, then he probably wouldn't have been so heated when Michael Jackson bought all the rights the Beatles music. |

Without Elvis there would not have been The Beatles kind of hard to pick one that was greatest if you look at it that way. Without either the pop music of today wouldn't exist as it is and Perry Como could have still been tops on the charts.
Elvis has his roots in black gospel and blues. Yes, Buddy Holley was also a major influence on the Beatles. The Beatles often commented often that their major influences were Elvis, Buddy Holley, and Chuck Berry the father of four chourd blues with a rock beat. To appreaciate music one should understand the musics roots. I typically equate IQ of people who hate all music except one style as being lucky to know how to turn on their car radio. Tj |
Well said! I really love it when people say "that sucks", like them saying something sucks makes it so. When they should be saying, "I think it sucks", their opinion. FWIW. AB |
Come on Andy, not fair. You are comparing music the Beatles wrote in 64 to Stones music from 68. I love Sympathy For The Devil but prefer if I must pick one; the Beatles over the Stones. Between Elvis and the Beatles? It's close. I like Elvis's movies better than the Beatles but I would rather listen to Beatles music or see them live. I guess I would pick the Beatles. |
Elvis was a great entertainer, but was largely style over substance.
The Beatles almost singlehandedly revolutionised popular music. Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band's instrumenation, production, orchestration, etc were quantum leaps above ANYTHING that preceded it. Every other group scrambled to catch up with the Beatles, but no one ever did. If your exposure to popular music began with Poison and Motley Crue, do you really have a valid opinion in this matter? Just askin'. |
Beatles-when they started taking drugs. (You can thank Dylan for that.) The early stuff was dopey. Thank god for John Lennon, or all the songs would've been Paul inspired "love" crap songs.
Elvis, I never could stand. That get up he wore, reminded me of a bloated Evil Kneivel. |
Well lets see, you have a drug addict since the early sixtys who died on the crapper.
A bunch of has-been noise makers led by an anti-american (englishman) who they tried to make into a hero because someone blew him away. Your right they both suck. |
The Beatles were socalist pigs and it's in their music. Elvis is the King!!!!!!!!!!
Did he just say 'ABBA' !? wtf !?.... As to the question, although I enjoy music from 'em both I'll take the Beatles over Elvis. I got a lot more That's what it's all about, Right? |
Even tho the Beatles were so groundbreaking, methinks Elvis was more of a showman.
And he didn't make cartoons. - BUCC_Guy |

Fair point well made Atencio… so how about this dandy of a 1968 Beatles track?…… "Beatles - Back In The U.S.S.R. lyrics Flew in from Miami Beach BOAC Didn't get to bed last night On the way the paper bag was on my knee Man I had a dreadful flight I'm back in the U.S.S.R. You don't know how lucky you are boy Back in the U.S.S.R. Been away so long I hardly knew the place Gee it's good to be back home Leave it till tomorrow to unpack my case Honey disconnect the phone I'm back in the U.S.S.R. You don't know how lucky you are boy Back in the U.S.S.R. Well the Ukraine girls really knock me out They leave the West behind And Moscow girls make me sing and shout That Georgia's always on my mind. I'm back in the U.S.S.R. You don't know how lucky you are boys Back in the U.S.S.R. Show me round your snow peaked mountains way down south Take me to your daddy's farm Let me hear your balalaika's ringing out Come and keep your comrade warm. I'm back in the U.S.S.R. You don't know how lucky you are boys Back in the U.S.S.R." Beatles were a bunch of left wing hippies by 68… Mick and the boys were many things, but commies? no way! Andy |

That song was a total goof on the Beach Boys. And it proved that even as a goof, the Beatles could make music equivalent to other lower level bands with no effort. |

The Beatles were not talented enough to zip up the jumpsuit of "The King"!

I'm suprised so many members here like the Beatles, maybe I havn't ingested enough acid and shrooms to appreciate hippy music.
