I never did. Great guy but not funny View Quote Same here, I detest RW movies. Same with Will Ferrell and Adam Sandler. Not funny at all. |
I didn't watch him that much but I did know he did a lot of shows for the troops, etc.
Not when he was at the height of his cocaine use, but yes, in general, he was a funny guy. Smart and insightful, good actor, good person. Feel bad for his family.
Never liked him. I have no tolerance for Dorks.
Also can't stand J. Seinfeld. I absolutely hate guys that "Whine like little Bitches." |
He was OK as an actor, as a stand up comedian I couldn't watch him. Too hyper and never sat still.
His voice work was amazing, as was his kid movie persona. His serious mode was fantastic too.
For straight comedies, not my bag, but for everything else he's fantastic. I'm genuinely saddened by this.

Nope, not funny at all to me. I did like him when he played a serious role.
Belt around his neck connected to closet door not seated in a chair, but in a seated position. Pocket knife with slight slashes on his arms.
He was a funny stand up comedian & a very talented actor who could fill many roles.
In some ways yes, in other ways no. I think he did a good job in more serious roles.

Is this the thread where , since everyone else is generally praising what a good comedian Robin Williams was , you get to "prove" how "cool" you are by being contrary ?
Yeah thought so . |

View Quote Nah, I think it's just his type of comedy was a love it or hate it kind of thing. I never cared for his comedy, his serious roles were outstanding though. Insomnia, What Dreams May Come, etc... |

Always seemed like he had a huge coke problem, reminded me of coke heads I knew back in the 80's. Did have some funny stuff though.

View Quote His stand up was very frantic and hard to keep up with at times, especially when he jumped from impression to impression and then babbled something out quickly in a heavy accent and yelled into the microphone. I can see why people wouldn't like it. |

I found him funny in "Good Morning Vietnam" and "Surviors" and saw him at a USO show a couple of times.
Pretty sad that he offed himself.. |
Wasn't a fan of his acting, but by all accounts he was a truly classy person.
That's rare and worthy enough of being remembered for. |
As a kid, we used to watch Mork and Mindy regularly. Great show for the era

Looks like have some movies to get watching. Some of these I've never seen.
I love the scene in Good Will Hunting when Sean (Robin Williams) is in his first therapy session with Will (Matt Damon). Will's being his usual smart ass, cocky dickheaded self and starts insulting Sean's wife. Sean snaps and grabs the little punk by the throat. Think I'm going to dig that DVD out tonight. |

No. His manic, coke-fueled antics were his only trick and I got tired of it a long time ago. I think "the magic" wore off for me by the time Jonathan Winters joined the Mork and Mindy cast. I was 9 years old and already bored with it. Not just being "edgy" now that he's dead. It's sad when someone gets so low that suicide seems like their only option. Then again, it's more graceful than having to do reverse mortgage commercials and / or celebrity boxing. For the record, and future reference, I think Jim Carey, Will Ferrell, Adam Sandler, and Chevy Chase all have very narrow comedic ranges and are played out. View Quote Well put... |

As a little kid I often watched Mork and Mindy. I don't know if I'd call him "funny" but certainly entertaining. RIP Robin Williams.

I never did. Great guy but not funny View Quote 98% of his stuff, yes I found hilarious. His earlier coked up Mork & Mindy / Stand Up wasn't nearly as good as his later stand up. |

I definitely found him funny, what's more he was a heartwarming person that seemed to be a real genuine dude. I'm saddened by his death.
Goofy, not funny. That's just me. Seems like he was a good person.

The guy had a great talent and yes I did laugh at his antics on occasion. My sons were little when Aladdin came out and I watched it and he was hilarious in the voice of the Genie. Many funny lines in GMV.

He was amazing in Fisher King and in What Dreams May Come.
They re-ran an interview from 2006 on NPR today, and it was very sad to hear Terry Grosse ask him about depression, and whether he sometime gets depressed and if he could perhaps end up clinically depressed - and hearing him repeatedly deny it and try to blow it off. ... but, some of my sympathy waned when he felt compelled to take juvenile swipes at Bush every third sentence. |
I found him entertaining until that Robert Deniro - John Belushi - blame the hooker thing.
After that, not at all. |
Like many others, good when he was playing serious roles, but when he was trying to be funny, no, not at all. I remember when he was on "Whose Line is it Anyway" he was trying so hard to be funny, and failing so hard
When he was doing something fresh, he was hilarious. Best ever maybe. But he recycled material for a loooong time before retiring it.
