Yes I was a gun guy, thats why I got hired. I had sales experience and knew guns and how to sell them.

Didn't like the laws and doing trade shows.

We had a reputation after-hours at SHOT and a couple companies owners did not allow employees to hang out with us.

Follow up question.  Did working there make you loose interest in firearms?  I worked for a major handgun manufacturer for several years and it drained all the fun out of shooting.

Thanks for doing this.  I worked for an FFL years ago and was direct before the Remington chaos. DPMS was good quality at a reasonable price and the CS was awesome for us in FL.  Sad to see the black cat express retired.

I'm thinking that's the case, we did a TON of business from 2007-2012 on the FL gun show scene - it was absurd at times, but DPMS kept us fed when most dealers were starving.  Jeff made it to Shot the last year it was in Orlando.  It was an eye sore but that was sort of the point

Hate to see DPMS go.. it's going to leave a huge hole in the small parts segment..

Used to buy a ton of stuff from y'all when I was the Procurement Manager at Wilson..

Was the last place I knew to get 30RAR parts for us guys still tinkering with it..

Or do you think Remington will simply leave the industry and go back to making more fudd-ish stuff? (Not that that's a bad thing)

Too much liability with Bushmaster and I don't think DPMS will come back. PSA has conditioned everyone that a $400 AR is good and are fine with making $40 per gun. No money in it anymore.

What's the history behind the black anodized shaved "lightweight" lr308 stripped upper receivers? I don't recall ever seeing them on a production rifle. I have 4 of them. Some high, some low.

Shame. The G2 had the potential to be the best .308 rifle ever.

Had Remington not taken over I have a feeling the G2 would be the new AR-15.

My first AR was an off-the-rack DPMS 20" A2. I bought the DCM sights and a match trigger from the DPMS catalog and used it for NRA Service Rifle matches.

After 12 years and 8000+ rounds, the groups are starting to open up quite a bit.

You wouldn't happen to have a spare DPMS DCM upper laying around, would you?

It was for the light weight hunter line of 308's we made for a handful of years. We made more receivers than guns so they sold the remaining uppers as parts.

We have a bunch of them in our group, all have been flawless, the worse one of all of them was my sons recon, the bolt was a bit tight when new, but a few good cleanings and a steady diet of ammo and with in 100 rounds it was flawless...all have shot damn good and all have been flawless reliability wise other then the recon..and since then it has been flawless....

Hell this is just the boxes I have...

DPMS was also a great friend to the sport. They always donated prize guns to matches and the state police Olympic matches.

I won a stage AP4 that was cleaned and lined once from the box and ran 1400 rounds that day with no stoppages or tear downs. This was when everyone had started to poo poo the brand and claim Colt made every part in house etc.

I have used many of their LPK and BCGs in builds.

Their barrels were very accurate and I wondered who made them or the blanks.

My first year production LR308 24” bull still shoots great.

I bought one of the DPMS rifles that were ‘surplused’ a few years ago by a private contractor. They had been used, presumably, in Iraq or Afghanistan (maybe Kuwait?), but nobody knows for sure where.

Any idea where they were used? They looked just like the ones the Ugandan dudes at my COB in Iraq had....really wanna know the back story

Thanks

We would get the blanks from green mountain. The difference was that we machined them tight and heat stress relived the barrels after the final machining. No one did that at the time.

Not bad. We made them to their specs when we made them in house, they wouldn't let us do what we did to the DPMS guns. If it was made in NY (most were) then not what I would call a great gun. Union workers, rem specs...

Because in percentage terms they went bang almost all the time and were affordable. We had a 3-6% return/defective rate that i'm sure no one will believe.

We also sold a million stripped lowers with a "K" stamped at the end of the SN that would get returned as "factory built" that were junk. People and some DEALERS would buy the lower and build a no name gun and sell it a as factory built DPMS.

We NEVER made anything in house at St. Cloud (gasp). It was all local machine shops manufacturing to our specs. We only did the final assembly and light machining. Just like most AR manufactures.
