What's wrong with using shotguns? Bigfoot =/= Aviary. Imagine deep, dark woods. You're being cased by not one, but two of these fast and formidable beasts. Your shotgun has 6 rounds. You have to shoot through brush, branches, etc. In all, you land one, two rounds on one of the beasts. Time to reload. His name was lospeed_hidrag2. He was in fact, a low speed reloader.

If turkey or deer, well, those animals have no means in which to attack, charge, or hunt you. So what may have worked well for harmless game may not work well for mythical predatory types... |

Of course, that's the point isn't it. We won't find bigfoot so I will carry a gun that would effectively work on real threats and be comfortable to carry all day. lol If I had to choose a self defense weapon for bigfoot I would probably take some sort of .30 cal with high mag capacity and semi auto. Of course I'd probably carfry an even more powerful caliber bolt gun as well. If I'm working with other guys as a fireteam it might be a good idea to carry a shotgun with 00 and other guys have center fire .30 cals of sorts. Maybe you could slow it down with buckshot and give the guys with rifles a better shot? I dunno, just an idea. |

A shotgun loaded with alternating buckshot and slugs would be best IMO. Buckshot to the girdle for immobilization, and slug for a critical hit. Worst case you can use the slug on yourself before you are pummeled, decapitated, and consumed by its other family members. |

Not surprisingly, it's illegal in NY. “the DEC does not recognize the occurrence of Big Foot in the state, therefore it is not addressed directly in our hunting regulations. Because it is not addressed there is no open season on Big Foot and they may not be taken.” "These things aren't real and don't exist. And if you produce a dead body of one of them, you'll be in prison for 10 years as a poacher." But, you said they don't exist. Are there similar threats for dragons, sea monsters and space aliens? Of course they are real. It isn't necessary for Fish and Game to threaten us, if they weren't. |

I don't have a photo handy. However, at the time of the sighting one side of the road was pine and a mixed brush thicket. The other side of the road was a cow pasture with a barbed wire fence. The creature was about 5' tall and jumped the 4' fence at a run on two legs. It dropped down on all fours for more speed and crossed in front of me. It went back up on two legs after crossing in front of me. My wife and I made estimates of how many seconds it took to cross the road and I averaged the estimates and compared that to the width of the road. Based on those figures, it was moving about 30 mph. It was extremely muscular. It isn't hard to get involved in doing investigations. If people know you do it and trust you to be discreet, you will have people pour out of the woodwork to tell you stories. However, they must trust you and you must be totally discreet. The majority of people want to be anonymous because of fear of ridicule. I've talked to paranormal and Bigfoot witnesses that were law enforcement, ex-military, fire fighters, teachers, doctors, politicians, etc. If you get out there with an open mind, you will find evidence. Proof is an entirely different matter. You will also find that the majority of people are honest in what they are saying. This is a good example. I know a forest fire crew. I went to school with most of them from K thru 12th grade. A few years back, the entire crew saw a Bigfoot fleeing in front of a fast moving forest fire. The fire had been raging all day and burned hundreds of acres. This is a very unlikely hoax situation. For one thing, the hoaxer would have had to be about 7' tall and running full speed in the middle of a massive fire in a dense thicket with a massive fur suit in 100 degree temperatures. The whole crew agrees about what they saw. I'm fully aware that eye witness testimony is fallible but the sheer weight of thousands of reliable witnesses can't be dismissed out of hand either. Add in the fact that physical evidence is fairly common and you eliminate it being a complete fantasy. DNA evidence is out there but without acknowledged database entries to match them against, it isn't possible to prove anything with DNA. Chimps are between 96% and 98% identical to humans in their DNA depending on who you believe. Bigfoot (assuming he is real) would be most likely even closer. No DNA tech is his right mind is going to look at a DNA sample that is 99% human and come up with any conclusion other than "can't find a match" or "contaminated human DNA sample". Thank you for your honest, rational effort in studying this topic. Very strange, indeed. |

Regarding guns and calibers. Most of the Bigfooters that I know are from Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana. Most go armed. I've seen mostly 12 gauge shotguns but just about anything else as well. As far as handguns, most carry ordinary auto-pistols from 9mm and up. Most carry for the same reason anyone else would. I've talked to three people as of now that were involved in or near to claimed Bigfoot shootings. This guns were an autoloading 12 gauge, a bolt action .30-06 and .308. In each case, blood was drawn but the creature escaped. In two of these case DNA tests were done but no match was made. I've talked to several people that have had other samples tested as well in each case, the results are typically "unknown" or "human with contamination in sample" or "primate". This is what I don`t understand about the "Finding Bigfoot" crew. You`re trying to find(allegedly) a cryptid hominid that has a multiple reports of hostility and aggressiveness towards humans if you take all reports at face value like they do. If , in the unlikely event they run into one that doesn`t want its` 15 minutes of fame, what are they going to defend themselves with? Body Odor and harsh language? The "Mountain Monsters" crew are at least more realistic in that regard. I`m sure you must grit your teeth when those shows are on. |

Is there any realism to bigfoot hunters on their show at all? If not, what would be a good one to watch? I do watch mountain monsters, love that one dude...the crazy one, he's hilarious. The lore of the monsters is fun too. Honestly I never cared for bigfoot stuff until after I started reading that 50 page thread about it. My favorite cryptid was always the "Cherokee Death Cat". ETA: I also had that thought when I learned about them being unarmed. If finding bigfoot guys actually believe a bigfoot could exist, why aren't they armed? I talked to KampusKop earlier about his experienceand we both agreed you'd have to get the drop on bigfoot for a gun to be useful, so that's something to think about. If that critter is strong and fast as people claim, he'd be one dangerous son of a bitch. |

Quoted: Bigfoot =/= Aviary. ![]() ETA: FU auto-correct Quoted: Quoted: What's wrong with using shotguns? Bigfoot =/= Aviary. Imagine deep, dark woods. I've never seen finding bigfoot. Is there any realism to bigfoot hunters on their show at all? If not, what would be a good one to watch? I`m not a Bigfoot Hunter, but I don`t think so. I thought Survivorman Bigfoot was pretty good. I do watch mountain monsters, love that one dude...the crazy one, he's hilarious. The lore of the monsters is fun too. I enjoy the show, especially their elaborate traps. Both crews make way too much noise and I don`t see any attempt to carry out any kind of scent control. I talked to KampusKop earlier about his experience and we both agreed you'd have to get the drop on bigfoot for a gun to be useful, so that's something to think about. I've never seen finding bigfoot. I get the impression from these shows and from witness interviews that Bigfoot is pretty perceptive. I think they know when humans are armed, and when they`re looking for a fight, versus just hiking in the woods. It sounds like if a group of humans includes females and/or children, they`re more willing to be seen by humans. That`s the vibe I get from these shows. |
