Quoted: Its not so much of material breaking down but the adhesive between the ceramic/hdpe View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: Quoted: Quoted: Quoted: note the 5-year lifespan. Aren’t all ceramic plates 5 year rated? I don't know of any natural mechanism that degrades ceramics. plastic breaks down over time, and those are HDPE plates. Its not so much of material breaking down but the adhesive between the ceramic/hdpe how about the LTC ones that dont have HDPE? they are pressed silicon carbide. maybe a little something external. |

View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: Quoted: Does the curve matter so much on the rear plate? I was wondering the same thing. Also - any thoughts on bulletproofme.com? They’ve got a decent deal on LBT carrier and level IV plates. I'm a skinny guy, so yeah I think multi curve would make a difference on the back. Probably even more so than the front actually. For guys with some extra "padding" maybe it won't make much of a difference. I bought the First Spear pad inserts to try to lessen the strain on my back. Doesn't help that my plates are something like 8lbs each. I've read that bulletproofme.com is good to go. I was going to buy the LBT PC from them but they only had large if I remember correctly. |

Is the weight penalty for steel so bad that it's worth spending more for materials with a 5 year shelf life?

Quoted: Is the weight penalty for steel so bad that it's worth spending more for materials with a 5 year shelf life? View Quote Ceramic plates don't have a 5 year shelf life anymore than steel has a 20 year shelf life. Hesco branded plates are a 10 year warranty, besides. The 5 year warranty is for rebranded Hescos. There was a test of some of the Italian flat ceramic plates from the early 2000s that were still proof against 6 x 7.62x51 hits. If your ceramics sit "on the shelf" or other wise in storage I'd wager they'll last a lifetime. |

I doubt any carrier will be made to fit small plates, because most people wear mediums of course. Just get whatever carrier you like, in your size, and it will fit small and medium plates. |
