I went to Havana last month, interesting place to visit. Brought back one bottle of Havana Club, and some Montecristo cigars.
I might go back in the future, easy enough to skip through Mexico. |

A couple of weeks ago I heard the travel industry was scaling back their flights and cruises to Cuba because no one was going.
Now all of a sudden a collapsed economy is going to collapse, poor people will still be poor and robbed by their government, and human rights will continue to be violated. Cubans helped drive this policy. Why do the democrats hate brown Americans? |

A. The Cuban American crowd was absolutely wild about President Trump and his message. Fine people.
More of Obungo's legacy destroyed. MAGA. B. For the life of me I can't understand why someone would want to go to a third world shithole when there are SO many more appealing places to go. |

I think you can kill communism with capitalism and that flooding Cuba with dollars would be good for the people and ultimately end the Castro regime.
But if Trump's reasoning for this rollback is to get political prisoners released then it's the right move. Raul will be a good commie (dead) soon enough. |

I would have to know what the Ag imports are and why it is better than our stuff. I have little desire to flood the market with more foreign food and turn around and subsidize our farmers. And the buying power of Cuba is non-existent, so it sounds one-sided. Like I said, I'd have to see more than a blurb statement. Disclaimer: I couldn't care less if we have an embargo or not, but I hate the Swamp. |

You all know this really did not stop much of anything I'm afraid. US Cruise ships, (US Cruise lines win big here for Group tours) and American Airlines types are still allowed to fly there but airlines for sure will see a sharp decline and wil be cutting back. None of this has been turned back. The "People-to-People" reason block on the 12 reasons questionnaire was removed, but you can still fly there. Also no roll backs on how much Cigars and Alcohol you can bring back, up to $800 for personal consumption and anything after that a excise tax. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/trump-cuba-travel-restrictions-what-does-it-mean-obama-rollback-expert-explained-a7794226.html View Quote |

Not sure that's how it would actually turn out . Tourism results in food shortages for Cuban citizens. I wonder where the everyday citizen would come up with the financial resources to purchase American goods? View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Nothing kicks the shit out of communism like fucking over the common people that might actually rise up against the communist government that is oppressing them. If you really want to overthrow Cuba's government you would be flooding Cuba with American goods and culture. Show them what they are missing. I wonder where the everyday citizen would come up with the financial resources to purchase American goods? Several Cuban residents said simply buying a pound of onions and a pound of tomatoes at the prices charged that day would consume 10 percent or so of a standard government salary of about $25 a month. I can see why they complain that $2.50 for a pound each of tomatoes and onions is too much. Although, the average price for the same is $3.75 in the US. But the fact is the government run stores are out of produce. The private stores are overflowing with produce, but the prices are too high for average Cubans. Like you said, if they can't afford $2.50 for two pounds of produce, there is no way in hell they can afford imported goods from America or Europe. Maybe their fellow commies in China will cut them a deal. I would not be opposed to my state selling Cuba produce if it actually got to the people. But again, if they can't afford $2.50 for two pounds of produce, I doubt they could afford imported produce from California. I would add that similar shortages were common in the USSR. There was a thriving black market of quality foods reserved for Communist Party officials and their cronies. The good food never made it to the government store shelves. It was diverted way up the supply chain. What was left for the common people was rotten offal. I'm sure a similar system of black markets exists in Cuba, as it does in all Communist nations. But now they have tourists to deal with, adding to the "food shortage" -- a problem that never plagued the USSR. Anyway, my policy remains. No matter how much I would like to try Cuban rum or cigars, as long as the commies are running the joint they will never get a penny from me. |
