Honestly, that sucks. My daughter’s grandparents on both sides aren’t necessarily anti-gun; they just don’t see them as necessary. In their world, logic and compliance and faith that the Lord will deliver them is the totality of their “plan.” Dad is 85. I bought him a revolver many years back. He keeps it loaded somewhere. He’s never shot it since the one time we went. He has no license to carry. I’m not sure I’d trust him to hit what he’s aiming at anyway. My in-laws? FIL has a gun case with some old rifles that belonged to him and his pappy. I don’t believe he has a loaded handgun or rifle at the ready anywhere in his house. I’m fully aware that if/when I leave my child in their care or under their supervision that her fate is in their hands. I’ve imagined scenarios where she’s forcefully abducted like in the park down the road with them because the old women are useless to stop something like that and the men are almost as useless. This is the shit that keeps me up at night. Everyone in my family knows I’m into guns and they know I carry. I did have to formally ask my BIL and SIL about bringing it into their home because they have two kids. They trust me which is an awesome feeling and carries a lot of accountability. At the end of the day, I have to be responsible for my daughter’s safety and well-being, and I’m sure you feel the same; but can you be with them all the time, though? Maybe you all can talk it out and you let him know why it’s important. He may come around. Although you can’t expect him to provide for the safety of your child to the extent that you would, perhaps he would soften his stance on not allowing you to carry in his home. Then again he may red flag you first chance he gets because he’s afraid for his grandson. You know, crazy shit like that. Hopefully not. Good luck. |

Quoted: Didn’t read thread You need to have a talk with him if you plan to be with his daughter for any period of time. Man to man about protecting your family and potentially his daughter. This. Could have just read the news on Master Sgt. Andrew 'Andy' Christian Marckesano and had a poor initial response...just speculating |

Quoted: Worst advice in this thread. Yeah, actively promoting and working toward a firearm friendly society is a shit idea. I don’t know what I was thinking. Just go back to doing the boomer thing, OP. Continue being silent about gun ownership so non owners continue to believe we are far and few between. And if you’re identified as a gun owner, be sure the act brash and irrationally to justify their current stereotypical beliefs. |

Quoted: Quoted: Geez this is a tightly wound bunch. I'd just be more concealed about it in the future. No need to go nuclear. This is a textbook opportunity to slowly bring someone over to the light side. The conversation has been opened. Just remain being polite and courteous and informative when the opportunity arises. They'll learn by witnessing you, gun owners/carriers can be good wholesome people with good intent in their heart. Or do the GD thing and isolate yourself from the world because everything hurts your feelings. |

Quoted: From the responses I have received here I got some good advice. I don't plan on ejecting. But, I don't plan on going over there anymore and my son will be spending a lot less time with them. Especially him. There is no reason to eject from her, so I think they mean eject from him. She sounds like a very reasonable person in regards to guns. |

ETA: I'm a gen x'er and your advice is terrible and not thought out. You will get somebody locked up or defenseless if you keep it up and somebody actually believes your nonsense. |

This may seem harsh but that is "ejection" worthy. First, you need to have a talk with that old man and tell him he is a pussy and you arent going to stop carrying so you will no longer be dating his daughter. Also tell him he's lucky you didnt bust him in the mouth for acting like an asshole in front of everyone. Second, once your "ex-girlfriend" is out of the hospital and you are all at her dad's house, let her know you will no longer be dating because her dad is a POS and in order to prevent you from stomping his ass, you will be leaving. |

ETA: I'm a gen x'er and your advice is terrible and not thought out. You will get somebody locked up or defenseless if you keep it up and somebody actually believes your nonsense. Oof, gen-ex, eh? This is worse than I thought. Must be miserable living your days out in raw fear of everything. My advice comes from a place of experience with my own in-laws. My 20 year old brother in law, who I don’t think had ever even seen a gun up close, is going to the range with me this morning. You might take a moment to note where I live, too. I go out in that big scary world on the other side of the window every day! Can you imagine!? Outside! Amongst other people! Crazy! |

Quoted: Meh, he's just embarrassed that you're more willing to defend his daughter than he is. The weak hate being reminded of their inferiority. This really is the case, I would just not go over to his home anymore. If GF has problems accepting her dad as wrong, then you eject from her also. Life is too short as is, you hang around anti-gunners & it’s bound to get shorter. |

Here's a different perspective He's not into guns which is clear, so he was probably in a state of disbelief when he noticed. He may have overreacted out of shock. If you plan on having a normal relationship with him, you need to evaluate the threat you would be facing by not having your pistol with you and how far you would keep it away from you (car) Do you carry at work? Anywhere else that you don't carry? Everyone needs to choose based on their own convictions, but there are plenty of places that I do not carry, that are probably higher risk than at someone's house that I know. |

Quoted: Something that you (and others) missed- they have a 2 yo. Kind of complicates things, yeah? A kid is not an unbreakable bond that forces him to stay with inferior stock. Get shared custody and move on with life. This situation isnt going to improve, it will only worsen. That old man just drove a wedge into his daughter's relationship and that wedge over time is just going to widen the gap. |

This is tough! You have a 2 yr old with GF. GF is aware and OK with you carrying. But how do you and GF know whether or not he has not already red-flagged you? Or if he hasn’t yet, that he can any time in the future. You and GF need to have a very serious heart to heart discussion about her dad as soon as she has recovered. I seriously feel for the tough spot you are in. Wishing a speedy recovery for the GF. |

I have had to deal with this, personally. It makes for an "interesting" life, at times. |

Quoted: LOL. Move along junior. I'm sure you have entitlements to collect somewhere. #clueless lol just the progressive intellect I’ve grow to expect from your generation. When fear based reasoning doesn’t work jump right to insults. Your generations ineptitude to stand up and have the tough conversations is the reason our rights have eroded to this point. You can go back to cowering in your home, probably best to leave the adult conversations to those of us who can operate on logic instead of emotions. A hashtag? LOLOLOL What are you, 60 going on 16? |

Quoted: Probably pay back for how I treat his daughter in the bedroom. Quoted: Quoted: Expressing his dominance on his territory. Probably hates everything about you. Embarrassed you in front of your kid, first of all. Probably pay back for how I treat his daughter in the bedroom. A pic of you giving his little girl a money shot right to the face would make an incredible Christmas Card this year. Just saying. |

Your Girlfriend will need digestive enzymes with meals in the future or will be uncomfortable. It is a capsule that she will take before or during a meal, especially a fatty meal like a ribeye. y wife gets NOW brand. Most people have friction with their inlaws, so don't sweat it. |

His house, he doesn't like guns, he asks you to not bring one in. No problem. This could have been a normal encounter between two free adults. The hoplophobia, the attitude, and the poor manners ruined it. Quick question though, Dad. Are you going to have a problem with me carrying it when I am out with your daughter and we are threatened with an assault that could end in death, grave bodily harm or your daughter being raped? |

Quoted: Went over to my girlfriends parents house tonight. My oldest son (7. from a previous marriage) and I dropped off my youngest (2) at their house since he's staying the night. My girlfriend was sent to the ER last night and had to have her gallbladder removed. She also has a good size stone that needs to be removed that they couldn't get today. She goes back in for surgery tomorrow to get the stone removed. My parents are taking my oldest back to meet his mom in the Seattle area tomorrow so I can head to the hospital. So, sitting on the couch at my gf's parents I hear her dad mumble "jesus christ". Wasn't sure what it was about but whatever. Told everyone that I needed to get going and stood up and picked up my two year old to give him a hug and kiss goodbye. Girlfriends dad, a man who never says a word to anyone hardly, says; Gf Dad: "David, do you have a gun on you?" Me: "Yes I do." Gfs Dad: "Don't ever bring a gun in to my house again." Me: "Ok. Didn't think it was an issue but I will respect your wishes." Gfs Dad: "I just don't want that in my house." I wasn't really sure what to say. Caught me off guard, but the way he said it in front of every one, really pissed me off. Especially in front of my seven year old (he knows I carry). Girlfriends mom and sister were there as well. I left shortly after. My son and I get into the car and he says "dad, that was awkward". Yes, yes it was... He knows I carry. Knows I have guns in the house and has never said anything about it. I don't outer carry and always make sure my shirt is covering. I was carrying a P365 so nothing huge and barely notice. Just left me with an uneasy feeling. I know, CSB. Credit to him for addressing you directly. He could have been a bit more discreet but his intention was to show you he is boss. His house he is the ALPHA male. Is he anti gun? Anti you? Does he not think you are trained, smart or capable enough to be trusted with a firearm? |
