Man, if you can find one, the old nissan hard bodies 4x4 are hard to beat. The motors last for forever if maintained.

I read your other thread.13K with a burnt clutch? I would go back bitching. That's not normal wear for a car that light weight. If they keep fighting you I'd try to have it Lemon lawed.
As far cheap cars, 98-2011 Crown Vic P71 are great cars that can be had for cheap. Toyota's and Honda's are great but sometimes people can charge a lot for them. Old Ford Ranger's with 4cly 5speed are pretty bulletproof I've had good luck with late 90's early 2000's GM's with the 3.8 motor |

I have two Corollas. The 1993-1997 generation was a good run for them. Each has around 200,000 miles and have needed very little.
The Geo Prizm is the same car basically. If u r a po' folk (like me), these are hard to beat. |

I just bought two cars.
One is a 1998 Pontiac Sunfire with 65K miles. I paid $3000. This is my 5th one, I've had great service out of these little tanks. Two is a 1999 Ford Crown Vic with 75K miles. I paid $3500. Little old lady car and not an ex cop car. My wife's new commute is 10 miles round trip. I hope to keep this one going for a long long time. |

Too bad you're not here in Maine- my friend is selling his 2000 Audi S4 with 192k miles on it with the RS4 upgrades to the front end, etc for $2500 There are lots of good cars out there people are selling because they need money. Craigslist is a great place to look. Good luck man... View Quote Your friend is wise. Audis are great for a few years, then every possible thing breaks. That's going to be a HIGH maintenance car now. You can get mid-2000's loaded Audis for not much more for the same reason. That thing is going to need thousands in repairs soon. Honda for eternal cars if you get oil changes. |

I've been running Ford Taurus's for the last 5 years. The pre-Ford 500 models go for peanuts. Yeah, they're buggy POS's, but you run em into the dirt and buy another. Picked up an '06 with 180k on it for $3k two years ago. No problems besides the GF killing the cat converter by driving 20k miles while the thing was misfiring.

Its turning into a financial strain. Ok. But you have already taken the big financial hit . Does it get horrible mileage or does it need major repairs? Every time one changes vehicles there is a cost involved . It can be dealer profit or the time involved to shop around all the BS on the used car market. After you find the next car there is usually some unexpected expense. You have taken the big hit at buying a new car, change the oil , drive it sanely and every year you keep putting miles on it without running out and buying a different vehicle you mitigate the money you dropped in the last year. Get a second job or work some OT or brown bag some lunches and pay any loan off early . When you pay the loan off continue putting aside a monthly payment (to yourself !) into a car fund to avoid some or all the expense of borrowing money for the next vehicle . Folks kill me sometimes , they buy a "fun" car because they can and then after 18 months or so they trade it on something "sensible" to save money. Yeah they save $20 a week on gas but they are paying $150 or $200 a month extra on the new note , taxes and insurance for the newer car . Three years later they get a little bump in pay at work and they go out and buy another "fun" car. I know this stuff not because I am so smart but because I was dumb and got caught up in it all several times when I was younger |

Last year I sold the 1998 Nissan Sentra my late Dad left me for 2k.
The guy drives it daily. Had 137k on it when I sold it to him. Had several Mexican guys around the neighborhood always asking me if it was for sale for what that's worth. It was a 5 speed and the air worked great. It would religiously get 36 mpg. I see those cars everywhere everyday here in Houston. Nissan got that generation of Sentra right. |
