just an update for anyone from IL waiting, I mailed august 5th, had my cc charged the 9th and emailed this weekend to ask for an update. was told my application was received the 13th and from there its a 60 day window. Does anyone know if whatever police organzation is normally responsible for doing investigations is contacted for the background check or if its all federal? The ISP is notorious for taking forever to process FOID card applications so if it comes back to them to get your C&R...no wonder. |

I looked over the forms and noticed they did not have a spot for a VAF . How do I get the info about my VAF to the ATFE so I do not waste 6 months on a wrongful denial? |

My card was charged on 7/30/07. I called about 2weeks ago and got the 60 day window explaination too, so hopefully it won't be much longer. |

I called again about the status of my C&R. My check was cashed on 7/30/07. I called at the beginning of this month and was told it takes up to 60 days. Great. Today, they told me it takes up to 90 days, and it is still pending. WTF?! How is it taking less than a month for everyone, but three+ months for me? Any suggestions about how I should handle this? Seems like I'm getting the run around.

I think the times may vary by state. Some states seem to process quicker than others. It may have to do with how many apps they have for a given state at a given time and how many resources the ATF has to work that particular state at that time. Or maybe they're just fucking with you  60 days from 7/30 is 9/28, so you could still get it this week and be within the 60 day window. Mine took 65 days, which from 7/30, would be 10/3. Give it another week and see what happens. The C&R market isn't going anywhere. Everything you can get today will likely still be available in a month, two months, etc... |

Ordered the forms 10/3 received forms 10/6 mailed 10/8 card charged 10/12 Now the waiting begins. The "Home Inspection" stuff I've been seeing is really getting me a bit concerned, as I am in Suffolk County and I believe subject to the same ATF Field Office as Nassau. I was under the impression that for the C&R, they could only inspect the paperwork and actual firearms, and you could opt to have those done at their office. I haven't found a law yet regarding storage requirements by the State or Counties. The Federal stuff is pretty darned clear as far as I can see that there is no such requirement for a C&R. So I wonder where they get the authority to do such inspections, considering it's a "Shall-Issue" wording, and only the Attorney General can determine what info is needed. I'm going through § 923 right now to see where that justification comes from. The only section that I see that deals with storage requirements is § 923 (d) (G). And it specifies dealer. A "collector" is distinguished very specifically from a dealer, and is NOT mentioned in that portion at all. In fact, the wording is pretty specific throughout the whole of §923 regarding "Licensed Dealer", "Licensed Manufacturer", "Collector" and so-forth. |
You know, I was just coming on here to post up some info for you if you hadn't gotten anything back yet. Glad to see you finally got yours, still waiting for mine but the time is a lot less. So, for anybody else well past the 60 day mark who is still waiting (or just those who want the info), here is a link to the US Code dealing with the licensing. Of particular note is section (d)(2), for those who are well past 60 days. "The Attorney General must approve or deny an application for a license within the 60-day period beginning on the date it is received. If the Attorney General fails to act within such period, the applicant may file an action under section 1361 of title 28 to compel the Attorney General to act. Yep, several of us got that recently after a thread about C&R in Team. We're all still waiting. ETA: 11/23/2007 - Received 2 forms in mail. Looks like they are limiting this to two forms per request. I'm filling it out today and mailing tomorrow! |

Wouldnt it be suicide to do this if you ever wanted to get anything again?....I would say it would be a good way to be blacklisted! My check was cashed on 10/3 and I called today and was told "It takes 90 days to get the license." Sounds like they are dragging their feet on purpose now! |
The hunting license thing under #10 is for those who aren't regular citizens. You don't answer any of that section except your name in part A, certifying compliance that you are not an Alien. If you are an alien you must have a valid hunting license, or you would have valid no reason for a firearm. |

Well I certified and then checked no. Guess there's a 50/50 chance how that will go. In my little world of logic, I would think of it as extra effort...  And now I wait.....

Does anyone have any input on how long it takes for them to send you your license? They cashed my check over a month ago, and still nothing. I know I am dealing with the finely tuned machine called the US Government, but any ideas are helpful. Thanks. Mike F ETA: After going back a couple of pages, I realize that it may be 60-90 days to receive my cert. |

Still haven't seen my card charged yet.   I've got a copy of the form here and I've looked over it a dozen times. Am positive I had the correct address on the envelope, alse it should have been returned by now. Beginning to suspect sabotage by means of the S.O.

Day 80 for me since they charged my bank account. Finally got in touch with somebody on the phone, who said in about a week I should be hearing from the field office to have my "Site Inspection" performed. Oh, joy. Still don't know what they will be looking for either, especially since I e-mailed them to ask that specific question and they quoted me back the portions of the law that said you don't need one. |
I just sent in my application today to the BATFE. Just for S&G's, I went online and setup an account at Brownells and selected C&R. Order for a couple of mags was processed w/discount no problems.  I wonder how long it will take them to notice?
