The BATF seems to be on about a 30 day schedule. I didn't get mine much faster than anyone else on here and I live within 75 miles of Atlanta. Got mine today! "Happy days are here again!" Well, day 90 of the saga begins; Had the ATF investigator over the house today, horray for New York! Was actually fairly pleasant, she was professional but friendly. Didn't actually do any "inspections" of anything, just a quick question of how I keep my stuff stored and how many I expected to sell in the next year. Didn't even ask to actually see anything firearms related. Checked my ID to verify address and such. I still think that the whole idea is B.S. and they are overstepping their authority, but not much I can do about it unfortunately. You want the license, you play the game. Sigh. Then she had a checklist of stuff to explain to me, to make sure I know the rules. That took a while, but again nothing of any concern. But you can tell that they don't regard collectors as much of a risk or any real concern. In fact it seemed to me more like they just want to make sure we know the rules well enough that we don't cause ourselves any problems and so that we don't accidentally do any big mistakes. God only knows how much longer I have to wait still, she said "6 to 8 weeks". Then she seemed a bit shocked when I told her some of the other turnaround times you guys have been seeing, and blamed it on Atlanta taking too long to forward the information to the field offices. She said she would try to get it hurried along, which means I probably only have to wait 5 to 7 weeks from today. Starting to wonder why I even bothered at this point. |

Well, I just ordered the packet from the link in Leisure_Shooter's post on the first page. Let's see what I'm getting myself into.

Just spoke to the liscensing center in Atlanta. It's been almost 90 days for me...anyway, the Kentucky case worker said that they are way behind on getting background checks out. Her exact words were, "seems like everybody's trying to get one these days".  She said another couple of weeks and I should have it. -Jbot |
Yes, you do. When I moved a few years ago, I filled out the 5300.38 to get an updated C&R license. The turnaround was very quick. IIRC it was about 2 weeks or less. I also have a general question of my own. My C&R expires in May of this year. Does the ATF automatically send you renewal forms prior to the expiration date, or would I have to procure them myself? |

Still haven't got mine yet. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to what order they go in. Guess I'll have to call and see whats going on. |

Received my packet in yesterday's (Sat. 2-2-08) mail. Ordered it via website Jan. 24. I have a question about Section 11. 11. Has Applicant or any Person Referred to in Item 9 Above: D - Been an Employee of a Federal Firearms Licensee? Down at the bottom of the page is a note to the CLEO. In part, "A "Yes" answer to items #11, #12 and #13 could disqualify a person for a license." Why would this be so? I have worked for a FFL years ago. For 4 years full time starting about 19yrs ago and then part time for several years after that. But I haven't been associated with the store in something like 4 to 6 years now. Obviously I'll answer "Yes" and with the above statement but this question really caught my eye. Edited to add:
I did not receive a Form F 5330.20 with my packet. Was I suppose to order one when I ordered the packet? Did they forget to add it? Not needed anymore?

Looks like I should have waited a couple of days to post. Now its time to spend some money.

I called Atlanta B_B.. Lady said you don't need the citizenship thing.. She said they use sec. 10 I think it was now days. Edit to add: mine gets mailed this A.M.

Cool! Thanks Zoomer! I've still got to compose a letter explaining my time working for a FFL 15yrs ago though. Probably get mine out in Monday's mail. And I'm sure that'll delay me for the entire 90 days or whatever.

Mailed mine in 2/8 as well from NJ. I hand delivered my letter and the copy to our Police Chief. I figured if he had any questions about it, better to do it in person right here and now versus something else latter. His PBA rep is my neighbor and he came in while we were talking. That doesn't hurt things either.

Received a call today from the ATF. The agent / clerk? told me that my application was in process, but my credit card info was denied. Not sure why that is as I triple checked it, and have a copy of the aplication here in hand and checked it again. She was rather helpful, and informed me that she could not make any changes to the app., but if I would mail her a copy of the application and enclose a check that everything would be good. I imagine if you want to do something to increase your odds or speed of delivery, pay by check or money order. Also, it's not ever day you get a call and the person on the other end says "Hi, the is Mrs. Smith with the BATF".... . Took me just long enough to remember why I would get a call...

Well....just dropped my app in the mail. And now the countdown begins. Card has been charged. forgot to pay attention to which day it was charged. (called the card comp.) And now the wait really begins.

When I was talking to the gal at RK Enterprises the other day, when I ordered a starter kit from them, & she told me that the best way to pay the ATF for the C&R fee is either by a Cashiers Check or a Postal Money Order. She told me that everything goes quicker that way & they hold personal checks for (I'm trying to remember) I think 30 or 60 days or something like that. |

Sent out app on Jan 28th w/ CC info That night I noticed unauthorized charges on my card (just $1, but I never bought anything from apple.com) so I had it cancelled and got another number sent to me. Called the ATF the next day, was told to mail in a check with Attn: to my state's processor's name (talked to her). Mailed it out that day. All letters have been accepted at the ATF. Hmm, this should be interesting to see where this goes... Wish I just paid for it via money order! |

I have found sample pages on the interent that can be printed, and IIRC, I saw someone had these pages in clear sleeves that fit a three ring binder. As well, I do believe it is permissable to store records on computer these days, but am not sure of the details. |

Anybody in your family have an ipod? that sounds like a itunes purchase...the songs are $1.00 to download...I'm still waiting on my C&R....went is 1/15/08...CC charged the next week.....Now...? [b]ETA. Card charged 1/15...I guess I mailed it in the week before? Amazing how fast your cards get charged... |

Day 133, Hope had seemed lost. Sanity running thin. Just one last-ditch effort to make before just giving up. Gave the ATF another call to check on the status. First lady took my info, said "please hold".... next thing I know the phone is ringing again and I've been ditched to some other persons voice-mail. I left my contact info, hung up, and gave up. Well, Surprise Surprise Surprise! The VERY nice lady whom I left the voicemail for called me back today! She asked me my name, and what I had done so far. She looked up the info in the wonder-computer, and what do my still shocked ears hear? "I'll go ahead and grant the license right now, it should be in the mail for you on Monday morning" Almost 4 1/2 months, and now it's hopefully here next week! |
good deal now I need mine...0ver 60 days since card charged....  ETA: caled today 2/26, a nice lady told me my app was still,"pending" and it takes 90 days.."the usual response"  waiting is tough

I just received my renewal application from .gov, but they only sent 1 copy of the renewal application and 1 copy of the citizenship certification form. Do I still need to send a copy of the renewal application to my local CLEO? |
