Perimeter. My house is alarmed and monitored, and includes a very loud siren, so any intrusion will be greeted with noise and the knowledge that their intrusion has been detected. Also, signs are posted in various locations on the property perimeter indicating such protection is in place. Interior. The room in which storage is located is in the center of the basement level and is not readily apparent. Entry is through one door through a bathroom/shower area. Unless one knows its there, they are not likely to see it, especially if the alarm is sounding and time is limited. This room has two sides that are the house foundation, and is the place the family goes in case of tornado. Looking at it further, it makes sense to harden the other walls and entry door to make it a fairly good panic/safe room. 3. Modular/adjustable for various configurations to accommodate variety of weapons, many with optics. 4. Storage for ammo. 5. "Tacti-cool" - visual appeal for my viewing pleasure. 6. Access to all weapons without digging through other firearms. 7. Efficient use of space. The room imposes certain dimensional constraints, so I did not want a monolithic ginormous safe. Since the I have a few layers of protection to deter theft before reaching the actual storage device, I opted against a gun safe. Instead, I went with a lockable metal weapons storage unit made by SecureIt. I really like it and it meets all of my requirements listed above. All optics are well accommodated. The yellow bins shown are in two sizes and can be adapted to hold handguns. I intend to use the notches on the sides to mount a few other items of gear. The shelves are very sturdy and designed to hold 400#. Rifles are easy to access and stay put where you want them without banging into others. Browning Medallion snagged off Craigslist for $1200. I think they are a $1000 more new, and this was never used. Bought a $100 pallet jack off Craigs and rented a lift gate truck. Moved it inside up to the room it went in and then slid it off onto the carpet and positioned by hand. Back of door has had peg board added to it on spacers. The newer ones have bolts on all 4 sides but at least it is a 10 ga body. 60"x30"x27". Pretty much full, doh.

| i like the door hanger, im curious why none of the safes come with a sliding rifle rack, some of them hold a lot of stuff and pulling a bunch of guns out to get to one in the back, just seems can be a better way. i don't have anything that i could do that with at the moment. |

| Check out Pendelton Safes. I don't know much about them (quality, reputation, etc), but they have a rotating unit in their safes. Looks like a great option. |

I have already posted pics of my safe a few pages back, but I figured I'd show off my lighting setup that I finished tonight.
I got the lights from PegasusLighting.com. They are two 46.25 inch Microfluorescent T4 fixtures mounted along both sides of the door jamb. They are controlled by a SensorSwitch motion detector mounted under the bottom shelf. I ran everything inside wiremold and added an outlet at the bottom for my Goldenrod. I think it turned out pretty good.

This is good. When you get a safe the Jobox becomes for ammo only. No one will be able to lift that thing full of ammo. |

It is 180 pounds empty and I think I've gotten it close to 400 pounds with my very modest collection of guns, ammo and power tools - all of which barely cover the bottom of the box. Still portable by two very determined men, but they'd need plenty of time and a good work ethic.
