Placeholder. Just got my American Security TF5517 RSC delivered this morning. Its very well built, the finish is excellent, and the lock/handle mechanism feels crisp and precise (mechanical lock, no key). Its just a hair over 300lbs empty, has a 30min@1200f rating, and 8 1" locking lugs. The hinges are external, but you could cut them off and still have a very very difficult time getting into it. I'm bolting it down and installing interior lighting tonight. Its going to be a HUGE stress reliever to upgrade to this from the stupid sentry "locker" that I've been using. Now the sentry will hold ammo cans and this AMSEC will be my primary safe. I cannot stress how it would eat at me every time I left the house, that my firearms and valuables were vulnerable to a simple smash and grab...but NO LONGER! I'll update this with pics tonight. |

My first post on this great site!
I use Strong Hold cabinets in the shop. These are very well built, heavy industrial units. All welded and 12g construction. I converted one into my gun cabinet. As much effort that went into getting it in, I do not see it coming out very easilly. 
This is the ammo cabinet before I brought in the larger one.

My problem was I changed careers from the corporate world to law enforcement. The pay is less than half of what I use to make so I sold off 12 guns last year to keep my savings up. I'm catching up now so I'm now adding to my collection again. |
Well I went to buy a Colonial 23, then I found a Franklin 27, THEN I saw the FAtboy Jr. For the right price and then I moved 705 Lbs of American Steel, without a moving company, LOL
She is still kinda empty, but this is my First safe and I hope it will serve me well for MANY years to come

New to this site. Buddy of mine sent me here. I just got a Patriot 39 gun (that I have way more than that in it) guns in with room to spare) that is rated for 1880 degrees for $2900). They claim that in 37 years they have never lost a gun, document or jewlery to fire or theft. I belive it. The safe is a monster! 5 inch thick door! Anybody else have one of these?

Hey thanks... and sorry for the delayed response. Started a new job recently and don't get around here much anymore.
The lights are flexible (and waterproof) LED strips from Oznium.com. They come in many colors and lengths. They are also 12 volts DC... so I ran a DC adapter into the safe. http://www.oznium.com/led-flex-strips Easy install. Low power draw. Very bright. I have been perplexed with trying to find a good secure storage solution for the mix of firearms I have, including AR-15s to hunting guns. Perhaps others are too and can benefit from this post.
I looked first at various safes, but most are not configured well for assault weapons, especially if optics are mounted. Plus, it seems you pay a lot for marginal security and some fire-retardant dry-wall inserts. So, I started looking for modular systems that might be used in law enforcement or military armories. I liked what I saw. So, I backed up and asked, what are my main goals and how do I address them? 1. Safety for my kids and kids' friends. I have four children, ages 13, 11, 9 and 4, so safety is my #1 concern. Any secure, locking solution will address this concern.
2. Security from theft. I needed to think in terms of layers, especially since my gun storage area is deeply embedded in my home.
Perimeter. My house is alarmed and monitored, and includes a very loud siren, so any intrusion will be greeted with noise and the knowledge that their intrusion has been detected. Also, signs are posted in various locations on the property perimeter indicating such protection is in place. Interior. The room in which storage is located is in the center of the basement level and is not readily apparent. Entry is through one door through a bathroom/shower area. Unless one knows its there, they are not likely to see it, especially if the alarm is sounding and time is limited. This room has two sides that are the house foundation, and is the place the family goes in case of tornado. Looking at it further, it makes sense to harden the other walls and entry door to make it a fairly good panic/safe room. 3. Modular/adjustable for various configurations to accommodate variety of weapons, many with optics. 4. Storage for ammo. 5. "Tacti-cool" - visual appeal for my viewing pleasure. 6. Access to all weapons without digging through other firearms. 7. Efficient use of space. The room imposes certain dimensional constraints, so I did not want a monolithic ginormous safe. Since the I have a few layers of protection to deter theft before reaching the actual storage device, I opted against a gun safe. Instead, I went with a lockable metal weapons storage unit made by SecureIt. I really like it and it meets all of my requirements listed above. All optics are well accommodated. The yellow bins shown are in two sizes and can be adapted to hold handguns. I intend to use the notches on the sides to mount a few other items of gear. The shelves are very sturdy and designed to hold 400#. Rifles are easy to access and stay put where you want them without banging into others. I will likely get a second unit configured a little differently.

This is the exact set-up I have been contemplating. My house has a similar room in the basement that is actually below the front porch slab. I noticed though that you didn’t list fire protection in your list of objectives. I’m curious to know what your thoughts are for that with what you’ve done. I called the fire department to ask about the conditions I could expect within that particular space in the event of a fire. They told me that extreme temperatures would not be a concern. That made me feel better for a while, but now I’m starting to wonder again. I hate the idea of paying for a safe because it contains marginal fire protection components, when I may not even need that feature in my storage selection. When looking at safes, I can see how hard it is to achieve the larger capacity and the fire protection without spending a lot. So I’m currently looking at some fire resistant storage cabinets to split the difference. But I really like what you’ve done there, and will have to take a look at some of the SecureIt products. |
Safes or no safes. I think a major priority is to keep ammo out of sight. Had out-of-town company last weekend. Next morning a guest asked how many guns I own. I told him a couple, he asked why I have so many different caliber rounds he could see on the bottom of the closet in the guest room. if someone breaks in they will not stop until they find a firearm to match the ammo they see!!!!

My new Liberty Lincoln 50! Waited 2.5 months for it to be built and shipped, purchased from Liberty Safes of Virginia and got it delivered for $2849. Was an easy transaction and absolutely NO DAMAGE to it when I received it(or as it stands). The carrier helped me get it into the garage and unwrapped, I think he was dying to see it as much as me  . I have some room to add long guns but now will start to get tight, there are 14 long guns in there but most are AR's and other odd profile rifles against the fudd style. I am totally impressed with the finish, attention to detail and overall look of this safe. The finish is mirror smooth, flawless; Made In The USA. We stepped up to this model/size because this would be a lifelong ownership product and it should be considered a item to up sell on. I have to say, my confidence in Liberty and the impressive warranty they offer compelled be to buy this brand. Buy once, cry once....

I'm happy with it, others are not. I am space restricted when it came to buying this safe since there is no other area I can put it. As far as "I'll grow out of it", I haven't bought a firearm since July and that was the AR. A few pistols are the only things I have in mind coming up. |

Had to wait several months for it to get back in stock. When it was delivered it was the one you have(the next bigger size). So I picked it up for roughly $255 out the door!!!! |

Something like that isn't hard to explain your way out of... Try the careful explanation followed by a stern warning to the lib-tard mother-in-law who finds the picture you took of the collection, but you forgot to delete it off the memory card before giving it to her to share the Christmas pics.

I am a welder/fabricator. I am sold on sturdy safes, its all I will buy for now on.
For the same price as my tiny safe, a massive liberty could be had brand new from a local store. There is no comparison, unless you bought a safe for carpet, paint and lights only. |

I wanted to give a quick look at the cabinet i picked up. Picked up CHEAT!! In new like condition! it is a Stack-On 18 gun convertible cabinet. I added some carpet and led lighting on a switch. please excuse the camera phone pictures. I will take better one and post up. I got this becasue I wanted something right away to lock my stuff up instead of just sitting around. And for those looking, I know it is not an actual fireproof safe, but It is doing the job for what I need right now. I picked it up for $100 and invested abuot $50 with the led lighting, switch, and extension cord and carpet :-) Oh and I used some thin felt to put aound the latches couple other places to quiet it down. Before I did this it sounded like a bunch of pots/pan banging around now. all you here is the sound of the key going in and out.

Cool Statue of Liberty decal on the front too. The fact that the resident safe tech and expert in this sub-forum saying that he's never been able to break into one had nothing to do with it. |
