I did see that Gatewood Supply lists the handguards as a US made part at $58.99. From the pictures, I can't tell if they have the heat shield and they don't mention it. I sent them an e-mail but didn't hear back - so assume the answer is no.

What's the mag situation with the AP53?

$80 each HK mags?

Any idea on what the plastic Turkish mags will sell for?
Will we see metal Turkish mags?

I know you gotta pay to play and it is a cool gun. But $80 mags are a turn off for something that really isn't any better than an AR15 pistol.

Atlantic Firearms lists both MKE plastic mags (2 for $44) and MKE steel mags (2 for $89) - but both are out of stock with "more on the the way".....

Seriously buy a ProMag and try it, they've worked great in my older Vector 53 built on a MKE receiver. When I bought most of mine they were between $10~$15 on sale.

If they can feed a full auto 53 then keeping up with a semi gun is no problem.

Those Unity mags look worthwhile too.

Now to bitch for a minute:
1 - why can't somebody pull the BCG out of one of these and show it to the world what along with a look at the rear of the receiver to show the blocking bar?
2 - why the hell does everybody list the barrel as chrome lined in their specs or vids?

I don't think the AP53 has been in stock anywhere yet.

Yes, the Promags are good.  As a bonus they work ok with a Podavatch U-loader, where the factory HK mags don't.

One thing to note about the Promags is that sometimes the mag catch area on the mag needs to be extended in length a little. If your mag catch won't drop down in the groove in the mag all the way, removing some material with an x-acto knife will help.

Thanks for sharing the mag links. I have a pile of 40rd Malaysian mags, plus a mix of HK and MKE 30rd mags that I have for my PTR C93. I may end up having to buy some of the clear MKE mags for the AP53 because all my existing mags were ill-fitting in my z43 (sold it along the way). Modifying them to fit the z43 would have made them fit very loosely in the c93 and I didn’t want to do that.

Sure thing.  I also needed to do an order from HK Parts, so I picked up a couple of the Unity Tactical mags to test out (once the gun itself gets released.)

Since these are two push-pin guns without a semi shelf, I'm confident they will come with SA carriers plus, a welded-in FA carrier denial bar would be mandatory or AFT would classify these as machine guns.  As to the stock, I seriously doubt these will come with a buffered carrier so.. any buffered A2 or A3 stock should fit and function properly.

These would make for a perfect .300 BLK platform. I currently don't have anything in .300 BLK, but something like this has the perfect barrel length for it.

Yep they were in stock at AIM, they told me so on their YouTube video in the comments section. I missed it, but hopefully Atlantic posts theirs soon or AIM restocks soon. Trying to figure out the stock situation since these are non buffered carriers.

I've got a knockoff KAC handguard, RCM 300BO barrel and LP on standby. Gonna pair it up with an Enticer S since it sounds like these run better with high back pressure cans.

It is, and it's got me wondering if that's not actually a 91/G3 back plate?

Could be. Doesn’t look like the buffer in the hk33 stocks I’ve seen photos of (below). Just looks like a G3 stock buffer.

Could always unscrew the little 2 inch long plastic stock on the back and try screwing on a 91/93 series stock that uses the metal plate to get a full fixed stock look.

Otherwise, can't you remove the recoil rod if you really wanted by cutting out the mushroomed bit inside the end plate?

ETA: Or use any buffered stock like the MKE A3 and just get an aftermarket recoil rod assembly like this: https://hkparts.net/rifle-smg-parts/hk-53-5-56-223-recoil-assembly-complete/

So I'm guessing the standard folding SB tactical brace won't work with these?

Guess I'll just grab the A3 MKE stock and be ready to form 1 as soon as I order the 53.

I'm still a little confused... what you guys are saying is that the MKE HK33 style stock that AF is selling will not fit the AP53 without modifications? or at all?

If true, that's a shame as I bought one of the stocks awhile ago in anticipation of these coming in the country - expecting a quick SBR conversion.

Could be the incorrect photo shared above (maybe a G3 stock).
Worst case, dremmel goes brrr and you can still use your HK33 stock. Or just get the separate recoil rod shared above.

The MKE HK33 A3 stock should be usable, because it has the buffer in the stock.  But, since the gun's recoil rod and spring are essentially riveted to the endcap that comes with the gun, you'll either need to cut it out and clean it up to use it, or buy an aftermarket "free-floating" recoil rod assembly like I linked above.

Additionally, since these guns have non-buffered bolt carriers, you'll want to make sure whatever stock you use has the buffer in it.  HK changed designs through the years, sometimes they had a buffer built into the back of the carrier, and those guns used stocks with just a little rubber disk in them (like these ).  And other times they used no buffer on the carrier and had it instead in the stock.

The picture from AF shows an attached recoil rod and spring to the backplate of the stock, which means, most likely, you will need to purchase another 53 recoil rod, but then you also have to deal with which stock to use bc it needs to be buffered since the carrier is not buffered. Below is a pic showing a buffered 93 stock.

FWIW, one of the promo images show the 53 with an AR style buffer tube and SBA3 brace setup. I haven’t seen any good pics of the provided end cap, but if it’s threaded for a buffer tube, at least you can use that setup for testing before committing to a stamp.

Went ahead and ordered a recoil rod, bc in the event you have to butcher the stock one from the end plate, I don't want to be caught empty handed when they are out of stock bc every needs a new recoil rod.

This is from Atlantic's video on them, so it must be a different end cap, or someone at Atlantic had some fun with a hole saw and a thread tap.
