I can only get 6-1/2 RIO OO in. If I pull the tube plug it will go. I need to upgrade my end cap and cover tube. I don't feel comfortable putting all that pressure on the thin Beretta end cap.

I've ordered a few more of the Wolff Mossberg springs to experiment with. I'll try trimming one down just far enough to fit 7+1 of the European-crimped shells then test for feeding reliability.

We would do well to ponder how we're going to spend that eternity, because eternity is a long time to be wrong.

I removed the mag tube cap (not the mag tube cover), and can now just *barely* fit 7+1 of the S&B European-crimped 2.75" #1 buck using the aforementioned Wolff Mossberg spring.
Are you referring to the mag tube cap (visible when you remove the mag tube cover) or the mag tube cover when you say you're not comfortable putting all that pressure on the 'thin Beretta end cap"?
Thx!

The mag cover at he end. Its so thin. Not sure how long it would hold up by itself if I remove the tube cap/plug.

For what it's worth, neither of mine have failed after months of being fully loaded although both of them do show signs of warpage/distortion from spring pressure.

I had a feeling that would happen.

I've been thinking of making a flat steel washer and just gluing it, with hot glue inside the end cap. I wonder if that would help spread the pressure around. I guess only one way to find out.

For now I'm going to run w/o the end cap, to me it's not worth giving up a round in the tube for the minor hassle of dealing w/the mag tube spring whenever I clean the shotgun.

Looks like the Zhukov handguard has sort of spotty reviews for this. Might just keep the furniture on this guy stock and get a 1301 to mod out.

Seems like the Nordic tube cover be a little nicer? Any thoughts here?

I also forgot to ask about sling mounts. What are people finding works best on these with the stock furniture?

I'm righthanded as well and had considered placing it outboard, but I'd have to run the cable either over the top of or under the bbl and I don't want it contacting a hot bbl.

The Nordic is definitely nicer, I had seriously considered it but for my needs the factory polymer tube cover seems adequate, I couldn't find any complaints about it from guys who use their 1301's/A300UP's in competition.

Sling mounts (or lack thereof) are probably my only real complaint about the A300UP. I installed a Grovetec swivel stud on the right side of the buttstock (there's discussion about this earlier in this thread) and had my local 'smith install an IWC MLOK sling swivel stud on the lefthand outside of the small piece that fits between the forend and the receiver (barely enough room for the install and it has to be placed perfectly which is why I had my 'smith do it).

I'm running a Noveske QD on the right side of the stock. You have to drill a hole to install it. Looks just like Tomacs. I use the front OEM QD on the barrel clamp. It's sketchy. I don't use a sling much.

I'm not worried about the mag tube cover, it seems thick enough to me (ymmv), I'm more worried about the thin mag tube cap that's definitely deforming under spring pressure. Now that it's removed, that's one thing less to worry about.

Holosun is a solid option. GG&G sells RMR mounts cheap. They are soft so be careful when tightening down the screws. Farrow Tech makes a better mount. But they are pricey. Pick any Holosun they work.

Noveske sells a DIY QD mount for the stock. You have to drill a hole. It looks just like Tomacs in the above posts.

Not sure how the Odin will hold up. The screws holes in the light are soft. I have one on a rifle. But Magpul makes a plastic 45 degree m-lock to scout mount 20 bucks on amazon. That's works perfect on a the A300 I have one. No issues yet with that mount.

Upgrade your tube spring. They get weak quickly. Wolf XP spring cut 12" long or get the 8 shot 590 spring. Both work.

Ill have to look into the spring.  I looked at gg&g and they seem to really go out of their way to emphasize some models won't work because the screws are too long.   I'm leaning toward a 407c or 507c.

As for the sling mount I'm going to use the mounting spot that comes under the rear buttstock.  But I saw tve drilled ones.  If the gun slings weird I'll look at the side ones.  With the swivels....Will any do or is there a specific type that's needed?

Thanks

Edit: didnt realize it has a QD cup on the underside of the stock.  I have a bunch of those.

The GG&G mounts are thin to keep the optic low. You have to be careful with the screws. I had to cut mine down to not strip the GG&G mount out. In the end I went Farrow Tech 509T absolute co-witness. They supply the receiver screws needed. I run a Mepro MPO-S. It clamps on like a 509T.

If you go farrow tech get the RMR mount. It will be perfect for the 407C or 507C. You can also put a RMR to RMSc plate on top to go with a smaller optic if you want.

Its not the swivels it's the socket. Get limited or no rotation. The gun comes with full rotation sockets.

I'll have to compare pricing on the GG&G and Farrow Tech mounts.  But now I'm curious what budget options are that just work with the stock rail section?  I've used generic TRS-25's on a bunch of my guns and they work well.  Not sure what other options there are.

I don't have my A300 in hand yet.  I'll have to see what the socket is like.  But I have a bunch of different swivels.  Hopefully I can find ones that work well.

Thanks

I just ordered “His & Hers” A300 Patrols for Christmas. I hadn’t been able to handle one until this past weekend when I was picking up a 19X MOS TB and it felt great. I’ve got a few 870s but I’ve been wanting a semiauto shotgun for a while.

I’m going to try out a spare Inforce WML on an IWC angled MLOK to Picatinny mount. I’ll probably try a RD on it too, seems like a dedicated mount is preferred to the OEM Pic rail? Also, what’s the deal with the plastic mag tube extension (cover?)?

That light should work perfect. Yes a RDS dedicated rail will allow a co-witness of the irons. Farrow Tech makes rails along with Langdon Tactical. GG&G makes the cheapest but be careful they strip easily.

Yes its a 2 piece plastic cover. There are better options but it works. Make sure and get a wolf extra power spring for the mag tube. The OEM gets weak very quickly. In my case only a couple months before I had problems. Wolf spring resolved it.

I got a slightly used one as well.  It came with a SIG Romeo 5 (1st gen.).  It was mounted on the rail and it was too high for a good cowitness.  I got a direct mount for an Aimpoint Micro and they have the same screw pattern.  I just finished a class and shot enough though the UP that I am satisfied that the Romeo 5 stands up to the recoil.  The instructor bought a cheap knockoff red dot to see how long it would last (on one of the guns he uses to teach the class).  He figured it would self destruct quickly and be a good teaching tool).  He was astounded to find out it has, so far, stood up to the beating.  He said that any red dot would eventually fail from the recoil (and he has seen a number of expensive ones fail in his classes).

I just picked up an A300 Ultima 28” 12 gauge from my LGS. While I was there I fondled the Patrol and now I want it too. I noticed that while my gun came with the kick-off, the patrol did not.

If I buy the Patrol, is there any reason I shouldn’t switch the kick-off over to the patrol? It seems logical that since I would shoot it more, and with buckshot loads, compared to much lighter loads in the 28”?

I just took  a tactical shotgun course with my UP.  We were taught the push pull method of mounting and shooting.  If you use the push pull, you won't need the kick-off.  I'm 76 and shot about 130 or so rounds that day and my shoulder was fine.  The majority was bird shot, but we also shot slugs and 00.  Love using a RD (Romeo 5) and the low mount instead of the pic rail.

Welp, I went back today and bought it. If you’re keeping score, that’s two A300s in under a week.

It’s a great feeling gun that should be fantastic with a couple tweaks. Definitely hoping to pick up a pro lifter.

They need to ditch the QD socket on the bottom of the stock and put one on either side. While we’re on the topic, PLEASE use QD sockets with anti rotation stops. I have no idea why companies do that crap. It really irritates me to buy a $300 rail or a $1000 shotgun with unusable QD sockets. Just leave the damn things off or give me another Mlok slot so I can install a functional socket. Does anyone actually prefer 30 twists in their sling and I’m just missing out?
