Small update, still waiting for the gun to get back from parkerizing, though it should be back this week.
I finished the modified vortex. Since that recoil ring spanned a gap, when I milled in the flat, the gap came back, so I just filled it with JB weld quick and painted it will some heat resistant paint.

OK! MOST of the parts came back from parkerizing, opened the package the other day and found out my Magazine Tube had been misplaced. After a few calls, they finally found it, they never bothered to unwrap it. 
I'll probably get it back next week, so here are some pictures of what I was able to put together from the parts I did get back. 
The Finish is Excellent and the blued screws and loading gate make an excellent contrast against the dark gray finish.  I'm very happy with it, except for the fact that I don't have my Magazine tube yet.
Soon.... AND IF SOMEONE COULD MOVE THIS TO THE LEVERGUN FORUM, IT WOULD BE VERY APPRECIATED. |

The one on the 870 Express I own is okay as it is used for a crutch, paddle, or whatever. If you're going to camoflage, I thought FALARAK's recent paint job came out great - First time painting a rifle ... We have a gunsmith nearby that loves to build modified Marlin 336's. He installs octagon barrels with an integral rib and chambers them for "not .30-30" cartridges, and he knows how to make them shoot. He has one down there right now chambered for .257 Roberts Ackley Improved I lust after. He's not a stock guy, however, except to make the factory stocks work. |

This thread has been haunting me since you told me to move it. I'm going nuts trying to figure out how to put a folder (maybe a Remington factory top-folder for an 870; it's the only one I can think of that shouldn't need much notched out for the ejection port) and an Eothingy on my 336C.

The tube retains the bayonet (prevents it from falling off) but I surely do hope it is the barrel that takes the loads. The barrel takes all the brunt. I machined that ring around the Vortex Flash Suppressor for that reason specifically. Anyway, here it is, the moment some have been waiting for, it is finally all Finished and together with some nice pics of it and the Family!

Slightly OT, but I was thinking about the general consensus of bayonets being largely useless. Then I realized, maybe they aren't. I can see where someone who hunts wild hogs, especially with a lever or bolt action, could have use for one. Hogs are fast especially when pissed and if you don't have a semi auto, it'd be nice to have an actual pig sticker on the end of the gun for a fall back. That's actually a really good point! Especially after seeing videos of NC hog hunting. Nasty brutes. Bit of useless esoteric knowledge to share: A 444 Marlin was used in combat by an Army SF member ( SFC Jerry "Mad Dog" Shriver, IIRC) during the Vietnam war for shooting into/through VC bunkers. I bet a bayonet mount would have been desirable on that rifle back then. |
