Thought this might be of some interest to those that are interested in retro carbines.  The Vietnam era carbines are in the  900,000 through 909,999 serial number range.  The serial numbers are in ascending order.  If anyone has any additional magwell pictures and serial numbers please feel free to add to this post.

Interesting that the roll mark list combines model 602s with the 604s. Does not even mention 602s.  What models were in the 15,000 to 23,000 SN range?

LT,, that 602 pic, was that a WP rifle?

I've been compiling a list of all the SAWS contract/CAR-15 Weapon System/Tool Room guns that I've been able to find reference and clear photos of.

Oddly, the actual SAWS contract guns seem to end in the early 14800s.

It needs a bit more work so I was going to post a thread for the hive to add any info to.

What do you guys think?

Those were great!  I added the XM177E2 you had on to my list.  It was also interesting that the XM177E2 had MP under the sight base.

I believe this is the single best photo of GAU.-5/A/A markings.

This GAU was an Amnesty Gun that was registered in 1968 according to the owner.  He is likely the only legal private owner of an original GAU - 5/A/A! Note the black buffer on top of it!

While back, all I could find was a blurry GAU-5/A/A roll mark on here so I made my best guess to Braceman back when he was still providing that service. Glad it turned out correct based off this! This source photo needs to be added to the Retro Rifles page too IMO
