Here's a mildly retarded question Did they ever issue a suppressor wrap/cover/whatever for the AEM5/Ops 12?

I'm collecting all the parts to more or less clone an upper (I'll worry about the lower later), and I plan on shooting this thing a bunch...and it occurred to me, it's gonna get hot and mirage-y

Was there an "approved" solution for heat mitigation/mirage mitigation, or was it just ad-hoc/COTS?

I don't remember seeing any kind of suppressor wrap in photos, but I've obviously not seen every photo of every configuration...

If it's "whatever", I'll just order something from BPG or something like that and call it a day

"Oh, bother," said Pooh, as he pulled the pin on another grenade...

I've seen probably over 300 pictures of Mk 12s, can't recall any that had a suppressor wrap

Truth be told, I don't know they were that big of a thing (if a thing at all) during the heyday of the mk12 program.

Kinda what I figured, I’d never seen one with a cover/wrap either. Maybe that was the genesis of today’s robust market

Burn Proof Gear makes a heavy duty one sized specifically for the AEM5, so I’ll wind up ordering one of those, probably later…

They originally started becoming a thing to reduce heat mirage like you said, mainly when using thermals on precision rifles. Think I've seen one or two on M2010s and Mk 13s, that seems to be around the time period when they started seeing use. They got more popular when suppressors started becoming more widespread in civilian use and people realized that hastily slinging a rifle with a hot can while doing rapid fire drills is a great way to melt your pants

My contribution. Hopefully I don't get thrashed too hard here. For more correct parts I couldn't get ahold of, I tried to go with something that's good from far, far from good. My apologies ahead of time.

PRI Mk12 Mod0 Upper
NF Medium Ultralight Rings (I think these were seen more on the Mod1)
Vortex PST Gen II 2-10x32 (felt like this looks the part and I don't want to spend for a clone correct optic at the moment)
Harris Bipod in ADM Mount (same as above, different bipod/mount in first pic as stand in)

Brownells A1 lower
A1 Stock/Grip (I think, honestly can't recall which is which)
Milspec LPK
Geissele SSA-E
TAS-1 Repro from @stoner63a (not shown)

AEM5 should be at my FFL in a couple days.
Whole thing will get paint when it warms up just a bit more.

Slapped it together and zeroed it last week or so at my place. Got it out to 550ish yards today. This thing is boring lol. We had a 7 year old that had never shot a rifle making 8 of 9 hits at that distance with Magtech 77gr.

Anyone have a good guess when ARMS might some med scope rings again? I’ve been on a few waiting lists for a good minute and I check the ARMS website every weekend and nothing. Until some come available is there an acceptable alternative for a Mod0?

And how's everyone's rifles doing? Mine's now a 15.1, which I absolutely LOVE. Had it out for a match a few weekends back. Digging the little Stoic barricade bag, and I'm about to splurge for a Maztech 2K.

I have parts on the way to take a stab at a mod0 with the G barrel.

Just picked up a sporterized Mauser for the m3 Leupold it had on it. Turned out to be a vx3 premier FFP conversion with the gen2 mildot. Might use it on the mod0 vs the x42 atacr

Question: My MOD 1 has always been sub MOA, 1/2 inch @100 yards. Ever since I put the suppressor on i’ve been getting over 1 inch. I have the wydle .223 1/8 twist which I understand should shoot 77 OTM just fine. I’m taking that this would be the problem and would need to get a 1/7 twist barrel like the douglas?

Are you using a crush washer or shims? Do you have an alignment rod? I have a crush washer on mine and it should be fine, but I know shims are recommended. It's possible that maybe the rounds are just very slightly grazing the end cap of the suppressor, but I think that might cause the groups to be larger than 1 inch. Maybe just a change in barrel harmonics?

In reply to the post above as well, I havent tried checking cold. I do have a crush washer and I also put the extended collar from ADCO I believe to get the proper turns when attaching the AEM5. I also read that when running the suppressor, it adds pressure when firing the rounds in which the wylde 1/8 twist sometimes won’t respond well too and hence the 1/7 is preferred when running suppressed

If you already have non-clone correct parts that don't actually enhance performance, then not having a cover to be clone correct is already a moot point.  Get the 9.5 BPG and don't look back.  You can either look clone-correct, or actually enjoy an accurate shooting experience that isn't impeded by mirage.  The FDE goes especially well if you have a rattle can job.

I have a question on clamps on KAC Large Knob 200-600M rear sights.

I know the long clamps are reported to be an early sight.

Does anybody know when this style of clamp was used? I best describe it as a clamp with protective ears around. I am hoping it is some variety of KAC clamp.

EDIT: Could this clamp have been swapped from a KAC Micro 600M? It has a slight "mocha" color in person that a lot of the Micro sights have.

Yes indeed on the lever stop work.

Anybody else have a clamp that look like the bottom one?  Pull those large knob 600M sights out of the safe and take a look.

What barrel are you dudes using in your Mod 0/1? I cheaped out when I built my Mod 1 and put a ballistic advantage in it as it was all that was available at the time. I can’t get this thing to group better than about 1.2 moa with some groups pushing 2+. I’ve tried IMI and BH 77gr along with some remanufactured 77gr. Bulk 55gr seems to group just the same. Should I just drop the coin and get the Douglas since they’re readily available now?

Contact Paul Ross at Ross Precision Machine, he was at Compass Lake before they closed.

Have him spin you a Douglass barrel, lead time was pretty quick, I want to say four weeks or so.

I have multiple builds in Mod 0, Mod 1, and Mod H with barrels from Ballistic Advantage, Douglas (multiples), Bison Armory, WOA, Criterion, Krieger, etc. You can't go wrong with a Douglas barrel and in the grand scheme of things they are not really that expensive.

The one Ballistic Advantage I have hovers around MOA... it's a budget barrel period.

I've had a White Oak from Brownells (was cheaper at the time with mil discount) for almost 10 years now and it still shoots wonderfully well.

I got one of the repopped G$ SPR barrels, note it's threaded 5/8x24 so you'll need to use 30cal muzzle devices on it...it's also not cheap. I'm kind of kicking myself for going for the super expensive option, but the first group I shot of Hornady Frontier FR262 resulted in the below (edited to add - at 100 yards) - the last shot was the flyer, and I'm virtually certain I shanked that shot:

So...at least the G$ can shoot, with the right ammo. AAC 77gr wasn't far behind at all, though by the time I got to it the barrel was pretty hot.

Barrel shims or lap the face of the receiver.

ETA: You can also work the nut back and forth a few times to seat it. Some lube on the threads will help too.

I have an Armalite upper that I plan on using for the start of a FDNY Mod 1 clone build. The Armalite upper receiver is currently on a Mod 0 Gen. 3 build that has a:

A.R.M.S. SPR-PEQ-2-3 rail
#40 rear sight
NLS #22 Medium rings with TRR
Non illuminated Vari-X III 3.5-10X with M3 turrets
PRI FSGB
AEMB
AE Short Collar
Brownells A1 profile lower
GI Type E A1 stock
GI A1 rear grip

My question is do I use a "salty" surplus C  Keyhole (Cerro Forge) with proof mark and M4 above the gas tube hole?  This salty C Keyhole receiver pivot pin and take down holes are a little large so I have shimmed the inside of the holes aluminum furnace tape to take almost all of the slop out.

Will the salty Colt Keyhole upper look out of place with the rest of the rifle?

Or do I use a newer Colt M4 Keyhole marked receiver that does not have a Colt cage code marking or C mark?

The FDNY Mod 1 build will using a :
KAC 22318 FF RAS
Brownells 16A1 profile lower
Non illuminated 2.5-8X Mk4 Leupold
#22 High Rings
KAC Large Knob 200-600M rear sight
KAC 99051 Front sight
AEMB
Long collar

It needs the following to complete it:

A.R.M.S.  5.56 #36 S-EX rail
Surplus G.I. Tear Drop Forward Assist

If you have either item especially the #36 S-EX and wish to sell them contact me. I'll be using diligence regarding buying due to scammers and AI.

Thanks in advance for any advise or guidance given.

What green is that?

I believe the darker green is flat olive drab and the lighter is a foliage. The others are regular flat black, red rust/primer, and a flat dark brown. All were Rustoleum colors.
