im going to keep asking this as it still bugs me year after year. why hasnt leupold or any company at all arken etc came out with a mk12 cloner friendly scope that looks identical but has a modern reticle? its bound to happen eventually right? leupold could make it happen if enough people bugged them maybe. im seeing amazon selling mk12 clone builder inserts for pelican 1700 cases so theres definitely a cult following taking place. no ones stepping up and getting it done. i see some companies like kac and arms inc making batches of cloner repro mk12 parts that sell out instantly and get flipped on ebay but still the traditional mk12 scopes people see in the movies are unobtanium year after year. it would be so easy for a saavy company like arken to do one that has the external shape and controls of a leupold mk12 scope you would think. |

ETA: not to mention if someone was making leupold clones and somehow *not* violating patents or copyrights or trademarks or any other massive legal blocks large companies tend to put in the way, someone would probably end up trying to claim they're OG leupold to scam people. |

If you've got a caliper handy mind if I ask you what's the measure from the bottom of the set screw hole to the bottom edge? And looks like a chamfered bottom edge, does it look like a 45 deg chamfer? How wide is the chamfer? Appreciate it, small details like this drive me nuts. |

Just received the gen 2 peq rail from PRI. Please see pictures below. It looks to not have the steel inserts pressed in like the ARMS units and it doesn't quite mate up to the #40 as nice as I would have liked. Color is also black, not the grey finish of the ARMS. All that said, it looks great from a few feet away and will work for now until a reasonably priced ARMS comes my way. Request: can someone with a genuine ARMS rail take a picture of the area circled in red? I think I remember seeing this area trimmed a little so that the rail sits more flush to the #40 rear sight. Thanks man, I saw your reply on Reddit. On the threaded inserts, I'm guessing you're talking about the helicoil looking inserts? It's weird cuz I have their ARMS clone top rail from last year, the full pic rail one not the PEQ style they just brought out, and it has those inserts. Hopefully the holes are still drilled and threaded oversized so you can put the inserts in, looking on McMaster they look like "Swage-Locking Threaded Inserts" but the tool to install them costs $200. EDIT: Looking at it maybe not, it has the spikes that stake into the bore but all the Swag-Locking stuff has a pretty deep counterbore that I don't see on this one. |

Well shit this is gonna bother me too. This isn't from a PEQ MOD but from a ARMS #38L from a few years back: So the inserts PRI used last year were different from the ARMS as well. What thread size are those holes for? If small enough could center and drill out and do the inserts yourself. Can't tell you about rear sight fit cuz this one has the rear sight on the rail. |

No idea what thread size these are, but they look similar to the steel inserts you are showing in your picture. Edit, from PRI website, the straight 38 gen II "has 15 pressed lugs (#10-32 thread) installed down the rail for attachment points". So likely #10-32 threading on this peq version would be my guess. |
| Yep you're right, its 10-32 on the PRI and the ARMS (insert inside thread) I just checked with a screw. If they drilled and tapped the for 10-32 right in the aluminum there's definitely enough to bore and insert, but I can't find the insert ARMS uses, looks like its got a pretty big counterbore on the insert itself. If going through the trouble of centering, boring, counterboring and pressing might as well get the insert exactly right. |
Well there it is, now everything's gonna bug me. I wish they sold the FSBs undrilled so we can just get it right ourselves. Here's what the underside of those 10-32 inserts look like, looks like its actually pressed in from the back, .3375" depth hole from the back side narrows maybe into a countersink thats 0.2480" going through measured on the other side. Major diameter on those threaded #10 holes is 0.190" so there's definitely enough there to do a conversion, I just gotta know what insert they use. The insert itself as you can see isn't think it stops maybe a quarter way through that hole. |

As one of the other members said, PRI put those inserts into their full picatinny rails as well, not sure why they didn't with the PEQ 2s (besides budgetary reasons). I'll ask them as well in case A.R.M.S. doesn't answer. |
