My first A4gery was built around 2000/2001. Not long after, because everything was trending shorter and more carbiney and it was a bitch to pull out (that’s what she said) a rifle from a Vic, I handed it off to my brother and just started doing biners except for my SDM build. I have regretted getting rid of my A4gery with the M5 rail constantly since. At least I kept the stabby, M68, and MATech. So now I’ve dragged out the A4 components I have on hand. I’ve got a Colt A4 that I need to find a new FFL to transfer since my previous shit the bed, and I’m set. I’m still looking for my silent sling and GI sling adapter kit (the web strip with D ring and wire loop triangle) and see if I can find the old stock mag pouch. I found an old A2 upper and I have a couple of unpurposed A2 lowers, so yeah I know how that’s going to play out. But here’s what will be going on the Colt. A KAC M5 with VFG and covers, a MATech, an M68CCO in the flat mount QRP, and an old M9 dolphin sticker. And because pic thread, here’s where we start. https://www.ar15.com/media/mediaFiles/18486/D1D78B74-9C8F-421E-A22A-C044FC777E65-2417332.jpg Seriously, thanks to all that have contributed. Does anyone know where I could find a proper M16A2 tick marked selector?

View Quote From early in the thread (and a few points in-between), specifically to the Jul 97-Sep 99 period: Their safety selectors, while having a "tick" to indicate the mode of operation, were only single-sided (no ambidextrous safeties were in use) & the "lever" itself extended from the edge of the safety rather than from the middle as currently issued ones do. Type 1 Safety Selector - Is a non-ambidextrous selector with a lever/paw on the left side that extends only to the edge of the selector base, with a "Tick" or divot mark on the right side to indicate the mode of operation. These safeties can vary in color from light gray to midnight black (earlier ones being more grey - later ones more black). DPMS, White Oak Armory, & CMT (among other brands) make these types of safeties. Type 2 Safety Selector - Is like above except the lever/paw extends to the center of the safeties' base rather than only to the edge of it, and they tend to be more black in color (the more recently manufactured they are). Colt tends to make these. PSA offers these, though occasionally they have the type ones instead. |

@m24shooter
So, Marine infantry (2/7) from 04-09, my first rifle was an A2 in the fleet for like a month then I got the A4. Didn’t deploy with the A2. Also used A2s in boot and SOI but that’s different. If that was Marines in Baghdad that would’ve been before my time for what that’s all worth. |

There wasn't much for info on the pic when I found it other than Marines on the way to Baghdad. And it really does look like an A2 handle when you zoom in on it. No pic for this one, but my Colt A4 should be here Friday and the clonification will begin. |

Alright, so here's a question for you guys.. I've got a TAMCN tag (E1442).. I've seen other UID tags placed fairly low on the magwell of the lower, but I can't find but a couple of photos with a TAMCN tag, and none of which are of military rifles, only clones. I don't know if there's a "correct placement" of it, or if it matters at all.
For example, this is where I have seen it placed on both images I've come across: https://preview.redd.it/cz4txvoupel81.jpg?width=640&crop=smart&auto=webp&s=8d402407806b436f634a14a58acb68afe901e7c8 But, then with others, there are many variations on placement: http://i.imgur.com/Ddvcg3Gh.jpg?1 https://i.ytimg.com/vi/JHAvhKW2TRo/maxresdefault.jpg http://i.imgur.com/Q2q9tUV.jpg Does it matter? Is it something which is controlled? |

Where did all of the M5 RAS go? I'm trying to finish my rifle and I can't source one at a reasonable (sub $300) price.
My rifle is a Colt AR-15A4 with: Specter sling; KAC 25650 rear sight; TA31RCO in LaRue LT799 mount. All I need is the RAS! I took it back out to the range yesterday along with my Colt 6920 SOCOM. I love these 20" guns! Compared to the 14.5" HBAR it shoots so smooth and light. The "sproinggg" reminds me of the 80's too. |

I was issued an A2 and an A4 and neither had the rail, so that wasnt a factor. I think 1700 is steep in normal times, but you'll soon forget the price. My A4 is my favorite of all of my favorites, I bought an RCO but I keep putting the carry handle back on it. Buy it and shoot the piss out of it. |
