Steel will eat up the Al upper because it is harder.

I picked up a Warhammer recently and like it. The mod2 I got vents gasses well and shooting last week the first few shots showed visibly that the vents work as I cooked off oils in the BCG and upper.

The bolt carrier, the carrier key and cam pin are steel. They move faster, more frequently, and impart higher loads on the inside of the upper receiver than the charging handle ever can and are made from steel with no serious wear problems.

BCGs slide with very little contact or friction.
Sorry, but nope. The cam pin is constantly pushed to the left side while the carrier moves forward, due to the inertial of the bolt and the stripping force from the magazine. Similarly, the carrier is pushed up by the rounds in the magazine. And the carrier key sees a reaction torque while moving forward from the cam pin rotating the bolt during locking.
Quoted:Manipulation of a charging handle pinches into the upper
How does it "pinch" into the upper. The contact surfaces between the carrier and charging handle are square to each other.
