Instead of Edwin's clean and mint MRP, here is my dirty one   And with the slip on flash hider (sleeves over the OPS Inc brake)  I took it to the AZ Big Sandy MG shoot, mated it with an M16 lower and shot 1000rds through it. My good friend RKM had bought 50K of American Ammunition ammo at the SHOT Show, after he passed away in July  we bought some for ourselves and sold the rest of the 50K at the AZ MG shoot. The ammo was terrible, at least one of the bullets could not even leave the muzzle straight and struck the end of my OPS Inc brake, it sent shrapnel flying back to my face. At the time I had no idea what got me in the face, when I got home I found copper and lead residue inside the brake

I received 2 each 16" MRP barrels & bolts from Wes around mid-Sept. So the following weekend I took both MRPs with the 6.8 16" barrels and my 6.8 RECCE to range. Bringing my RECCE really was an after thought since I wanted to focus on the 6.8 barreled MRPs. I have been using a Leupold 3-9x M/RT M3 in a LaRue mount as my range scope. All my primary variable optics are now NXS. My initial results shooting for accuracy left me a little frustrated, I couldn't get anything less than ~2.5MOA with either MRP using both Rem 115gr SMK and Hornaday 110gr OTMs. My expectations were based on my 16" SS and C/L barrels. The 5.56MM C/L barrels hold <1MOA with Mk262 MOD1 & Hornaday TAP when I do my part. I checked all the obvious suspects such as barrel torque , scope mount etc. All was go to go. Then I thought maybe I just having a really bad day or ammo related issues. So I decide to try my '03 vintage MSTN RECCE which has a TA11E. This gas gun shoots sub 0.5MOA with Rem 115gr OTM/SMK amd the Hornaday 110 gr OTM loading with a NXS scope. With the TA11E, I quickly put 10 rounds down range in just under 1MOA. So ammo certainly was not an issue. That left possibly me or my range scope. Unfortunately, the SHTF at work and a project had to be finshed by mid-Nov. To make a long story short, I had several email disscussions with Wes on my results. This disscussion included two custom 16" S/S barrels. The day after Thanksgiving, I went back out after pulling one of my NXS 2.5-10X scopes from one of my 5.56MM RECCEs. The results this time were dramtically different with 16" MRP barrels. I shot 5 groups each with 5 rounds using the Hornaday 110gr OTMS with both MRPs. One barrel shot <0.65MOA and the other <1MOA. Obviously the M/RT has an issue. This is a seperate issue now I will be working with Leupold on. Just one real down-sides now: 1. Not threaded 5/8X24 |
So you were the one WES cut the 18" barrels to 16" for? I take it your original barrels were 16" C/L barrels... Spooky |
Just use the YHM 223 Phantom flash hider for their 223 QD suppressor.It works with the YHM 308 QD can.My YHM 308 can is actually quieter on my MRP(223 14.5 inch) than my dedicated 223 cans on 16 inch barrels. |
Thanks for the idea. Do you know for sure if the bore of the FH is big enough for 6.8? |

Nice. A couple questions por favor.  Were you running the CQB MRP all the time? and also, were you just running an aimpoint, or other optics? Does anyone bitch when the 10.5 starts getting noisy indoors? Thanks |

I ran the 14.5" as well. It's just as good, however, I just ran the 10.5 for the most part as it was more user friendly length wise. I used the M68 all the time; I know they kick butt- but I am not much of a HOLO fan. and lastly, whats not noisy indoors? Take it easy. |

Only lacking for my purpose. I want to use the rifle length as a multi purpose upper with my 14.5" CL barrel, Tripower or Eotech as a CQB set-up, and a 18" 6.8 barrel with my Leupold scope as a medium range precision set-up. |
I only have only the CQB version twins, they work in 5.56M with a 16" in that role. More than enough rail space. What are you planning to attach to your MRP? I have found the 18" lacking compared to the 16" (IMHO) out to 500M. If LMT does not provide a 16" S/S, then I will most likely have Wes get me 2 custom 16" S/S barrels. I have not used my 16" 6.8 C/L past 100M to date, but they will shoot at 100M. |
Beautiful. Do you have any pics of that with a sopmod stock and spr mount?  Thanks to you guys I now have a folder named MRPs with 60 pictures in it. I'm going to go crazy until I have one. So little money and such a long list. |

pcurtis, What size groups are you getting at 100m with the C/L 6.8 barrels? What ammo are you using? I'm getting my 6.8 barrel after the New Year and wanted to know what works! Spooky |
It's actually a Doctor Optic 3.5MOA in the Iron Dot Mount, and it does co-witness. As for the Bag, it's my man purse.I carry it every day.It has everything a man can need, such as a Glock, mags, light, knife, check book, phone, etc... I just got it this week, and I love it. BAIL OUT BAG Oh, and I paint all my rifles in Brownell's Alumi-HydeII, it's been a very durable finish. |
Spooky, I don't post on this site as much as in that past. Both of the 16" 6.8 C/L barrels will shoot <1MOA at 100M. To date, they shoot the most consistent with Rem. 115 gr SMK and Hornaday 110 gr OTMs. All other ammo tried are 1.0-1.25 MOA (Rem). I have not tested any Silver State in any loading. I have not had time to test any out to 500M. This is my real bench mark for a MR weapon system. |
