Were the C/L barrels park'ed under the gas blocks? obviously these uppers have been running fine with the angled ports, but I would love to know the reasoning behind the angled ports as well as any negatives an/or benefits. |
WES, I would be very interested sometime in the future in a 12" 6.8 barrel. Do you think the angled gas port will pose any problem in respect to changing gas port size? |

IT DEPENDS ON THE FOREND CHOSEN. THE CQB MRP IS THE SAME LENGTH AS A BASIC RECEIVER AND 9" FOREND. IT WEIGHS 23 OUNCES. A TYPICAL FORGED RECEIVER WEIGHS 8.6 OUNCES. Well I haven't really "benched" it for accuracy, but I'd say roughly 2.5 MOA at 100 yards with ADCO M855 using the Ranger Plate/magazine as a monopod with the 3X & Aimpoint. Looking forward to trying some Mk262 & BH blue box 75 at the next trip which will be the primary ammo for the MRP SBR as it's a "house" gun. Would really be nice if the Form 4 for the Specwar 2 would get here as this little rifle is LOUD AS HE DOUBLE TOOTHPICKS! Dead solid reliable with WES's bolt setup, however. Thanks MSTN! Edwin |

Spooky, this is the closest thing I have to it, before I settled on a preferred Aimpoint position, the only other difference is the A1 bilock for the suppressor on it now and the ARMS 40L SP.

Thanks! I should have looked back a couple pages! Another request - I have seen your rifle length MRP before... How does the carbine length version with the SpecWar compare in length to the rifle length MRP? I bet the two are fairly close in length... Spooky |
Spooky, the rifle length MRP with 16"SS barrel and a Vortex is about 1/2" longer than the 10.5"/Specwar 2. The 10.5" with the Specwar 2 mounted and the VLTOR stock fully closed measures about 32.75" long, which means it fits very well in my little Winchester steel re-inforced nylon breakdown shotgun case. |

Welcome! You can order one of the torque wrenches pre-set to 120in. lbs. directly from LMT for $28.00. These are the same wrenches that LMT is including with every new MRP kit. |
| Unfortunately, they didn't include one with my MRP or the 6.8 barrel & bolt I bought separately. I wrote and asked for it, but all they sent was a torx allen wrench. I'll get it sorted out with them eventually I'm sure, but in the meantime I want to shoot the 6.8 barrel, and I already have a torque wrench calibrated in foot-pounds, so can I just use that? |
I would not use a foot lb. calibrated torque wrench. Try calling LMT directly instead of using email. They are usually pretty helpful over the phone. A torque wrench should have come with your barrel. Did you order your barrel from LMT directly, or from a dealer or used? LMT phone #1-309-787-7151 |
I may be mis-informed on the torque wrenches. I might be confusing some special deal they had from the Shot Show (Shot Show Special). I got my MRP a couple of years ago, so I didnt get any tools with mine. I called and ordered the wrench from LMT. Here is the instructions for removing/re-installing the MRP's barrels. *Notice the second to the last installation point ">Using the pre-set torque wrench which will be supplied with any spare barrel, tighten front bolt (#1) to 140inch lbs."  |
| I was thinking about going with the MRP set that comes with one upper and everything needed for 5.56/223 and the 6.8SPC. My question is........how will the zero be when changing barrel from one caliber to the other? Will it be off enough to have to resight when swapping? |
I DID FOUR CONSECUTIVE BARREL R&R'S WITH OUR FIRST LMT MRP, THE FIRST ONE IN 5.56MM RELEASED COMMERCIALLY, I DO BELIEVE, BACK IN '03. A FIVE SHOT GROUP AT 100 YARDS WAS SHOT AFTER EACH. ALL FOUR GROUPS WERE CENTERED WELL WITHIN A HALF MOA OF EACH OTHER. SINCE WE WERE USING TWO DIFFERENT SHOOTERS, EACH SHOOTING TWO GROUPS THAT WOULD ACCOUNT FOR SOME OF THAT. ALL FOUR GROUPS AVERAGED 0.83" AT 100 YARDS, TOO. IT WAS THE WORST SHOOTING STAINLESS MRP BARREL I HAVE EVER SHOT .... IN SHORT, THE RETURN TO ZERO PROPERTIES ARE PRETTY AMAZING. WES GRANT M.S.T.N. |
Tech tidbit: This being a mid-legnth sytem, I was having short stroking problems with a SS109 ammo through this rifle, and other less powerful loads since cutting to 13.7 and KX3. I opened up the gas port to .093 (#42 bit IIRC) with my drill press. No problems whatsoever cycling anything, and it still runs smooth as butter. One would probably be smarter to go with a carbine legnth gas system on the 14.5in barrel if they are thinking of a a 13.7 + KX3 combo. |

NEW MRP TRIVIA FROM MSTN: THE 12" CHROME LINED AND 16" STAINLESS 6.8 SPC BARRELS ARE RUNNING GREAT. I ATTENDED AN E.A.G. CLASS INSTRUCTED BY PAT ROGERS AT THE MEMPHIS, TN., POLICE RANGE THIS PAST WEEKEND. A GOOD TIME WAS HAD BY ALL, BTW. OTHER THAN WHEN I WAS SHOOTING MY 7.5" UPPER, I USED EITHER MY CQB OR RIFLE LENGTH MRP. WHY? 50 YARDS AND IN, WHY USE ANYTHING BUT CHROME LINED? WHO MAKES WHAT IS ARGUABLY THE MOST RIGID CHASSIS AND THE BEST CHROME LINED BARREL AVAILABLE THAT IS THE EASIEST TO SWITCH OUT WHEN YOU DO FINALLY WEAR IT OUT?
