Just got back from vacation in Colorado where I was able to get some time in at the beautiful Chaffee county public outdoor range to sight in my freshly chopped, re-threaded and crowned barrel. (from 16" to 14.5" with the Vortex permanently attached) Chris at Eagle Firearms really took care of me and did a great job. He even had it ready for me to pick up from his shop on my way out there from Chicago. It ran flawlessly as well! Here's a few pics:       After I made a couple of very minor adjustments to my Tripower, I was able to shoot this group from a sandbag at 25yds rapid-fire:  Quite a backstop eh?   |

NickDrak, Just curious, but why the fixed rear BUIS but flip-up front BUIS? Does this configuration offer an advantage? I know some prefer the folding fronts for a clear sight picture through the optic's FOV, but doesn't the rear aperture defeat the purpose? Justin |

Justin, The fixed rear sight is not even visible to me while aiming through the Tripower, and is the same through an Aimpoint or a Eotech mounted on a LaRue mount. If I need to use the irons, I simply flip up the front sight, and align the iron sights through the optic by using a slightly different (lower) cheek-weld. One less sight to flip up is how I see it. I may be switching to a flip up rear, as I plan to get a 3x Aimpoint magnifier in the near future. Stay safe

Duffy, how does the setup with the Dr on top work for you? I only tried one briefly, and didn't like it much, but I'm so spoiled by the fact that, despite my relatively poor eyesight, BAC works really really well for me with the 3.5, 4.0, and 5.5X ACOGs. I've even considered putting my TA55 on my Mod0 SPR, I mean what the heck, it's a big heavy rifle anyway, and the scope's M855 ballistics aren't that far off with Mk 262 out of the 18" tube (zero 1.0" high at 100y, roughly within 1/2 MOA out to the 800m reticle limit). But I'll just stay with the 3-9 MR/T M3 TMR, it really works well but the TA55 blows it away at night, but I guess that's what I got the D-760 for. Since you're an ACOG fan like me: Question of the day. What ACOG for a 10.5" MRP? Edit: the above shot of my rifle length MRP has a 14.5" CL barrel with permanent Phantom. |
Edwin, I've had an Optima2000 on a TA01NSN for years, never did get used to its chinweld, but it's far more useful than the god awful built-in irons. The TA01NSN/Optima2000 combo is mostly left in the safe for lack of BAC, once I got a BAC ACOG, my first ACOG hasn't got much love  I can use BAC in short range just as well, though a 1X optic is still faster. Since I sold the Short Dot and needed something to fill its shoes, I couldn't think of an ACOG I haven't already owned and still wanted, except the TA31DOC. The fiber optic lit reticle is so bright it blooms when in direct sun light (I can partially cover it if it's too bright), yet is fine enough to mimic the reticle of a TA01. The Docter sight is just a bonus, I don't think I'll be using it much  For a 10.5" setup, I'd use the TA31DOC or TA31. I'm sure others will say it's too much scope and suggest a mini ACOG or something, but the 1.5x ACOGs are a mystery to me, neither here nor there, 1.5X, what the hell is that for?  Might as well go to an Aimpoint or EOTech.

Received 2 ea 16" 6.8SPC C/L barrels & 3 bolts from Wes. I will post range results as soon as I can. I hope this weekend, but no promises. When LMT wakes up and offers a 16 S/S, let me know. The 18" offers no signifcant advantage, IMHO. |

I like the LMT stock better, seems to be made for the MRP I was one of the early adopters of the Vltor modstock, bought it when it was relatively little known, was also one of the first to tape up the gear shaped line/gaps along the stock It was a tremendous improvement over the Colt M4 stock, until I got my hands on the LMT Over the years Vltor kept making the storage tubes longer, I wish they'd make everything longer, my cheek is always touching the extension tube, no such problems with the SOPMOD stock.

Big +1 on the Vltor's length. I think the MagPul CTR is a nice length (seems to be right between the other two). It doesnt have the cheek weld or storage that the SOPMOD has, but still nice. |
I already have a 14.5" and a 10.5" with my MRP in .223. If they ever make the 6.8 in 14.5" and 10.5", I'll have them. Otherwise, I can't see myself buying just a 16 inch. |
