Wow, congrats MI you guys definitely have a winner. 9.9 ounces for the 15" and that's counting the barrel nut! You get all that and 6061 aluminum a time tested material known for strength and durability. That's just pure win.
You guys should be very proud of that sucker. |

Got my 15" in last week. It's VERY light, and feels great in the hand. It also looks great - better in person than in the pics. Haven't taken it to the range yet though so I can't really give a good review. From owning the SS Gen2 which uses the same proprietary nut, fastening method (two screws at the base of the rail), and is similar in diameter I can say two things. One, assuming the proprietary nut is installed correctly, you can thump on it pretty hard without worrying about it coming loose. It's a pretty simple and solid system. Second, because it is so slim, you'll feel a lot of the heat from the barrel if you perform mag dumps, or rapid firing. I'd recommend getting plastic rail panels for where your hands will go, or wrap the part you'll handle with paracord. For simple range use you shouldn't have an issue though. I've found this to happen with several of the new slimmer rails that I own or that friends own including the Samson Evolution series, the SS Gen2, and the NSR (though the NSR wasn't as bad). I'm waiting on some NSR panels that I ordered. After I throw them on I'll take some pics and hopefully be able to post a quick range review. |

The "keyholes" on the rail themselves should accomodate any keymod panel, however, the different diameters between diferent brands of keymod rails will ultimately determine overall "fit". In other words panels designed for a larger diameter keymods might not fit perfectly on a very slim keymod rail such as the MI, or vice versa. So MI, when are you coming out with your keymod panels?

As much of a fan as I am of the Noveske NSR, this will be going onto one of my builds someday.
I just need to get a response from a few other MFGs on some lightweight build parts' ETA before I start making this new gun I have in my head come to life. It's going to be a really fun one

| Just like the Gen 2 SS, it clamps on the bottom. It won't hurt to use a drop or two of BLUE Lock-Tite on the OUTSIDE of the barrel nut between the nut and the rail but it will be absolutely rock solid, just like the Gen 2 SS. You really do not need the Lock-Tite on the 5.56 but on anything with more recoil than that I use the Lock-Tite to make sure it stays put. My .30 HRTs will make the rail walk unless the Lock-Tite is used but if you do that then that rail is not going anywhere. It is also easy to remove that way, just reverse the clamp screws and insert a thin piece of metal between the clamp halves and tighten up the screws which will spread the clamps slightly and break the bond. Easy as falling off a rock. |
