I'm looking for a 16" mid-length barrel for my first build. I want good accuracy potential but not terribly heavy. My problem is I haven't handled enough different AR's to know how heavy is too heavy. Right now Rainier has both their select model available at about 30oz and their ultramatch at 34 oz. Also AR performance has their SOCOM weight barrel at 34 oz. I think I would prefer the 223 Wylde chamber which the latter two have but don't know how important that is. Let me know your thoughts on these barrels.

| Rod, I can't speak with authority on the AR Performance barrels BUT I do have 3 Rainier Select Medcon barrels. One is a 14.5 (which they no longer offer online) and two 16's. Machining and finish are excellent. Cleanings a breeze with the poly rifling. And most of all, all three are tack drivers. Customer service is awesome and shipping is super fast. I have a CAA stock on one and the balance is very nice. I have handled many AR's and most were heavier than my 3 rifles but I also like them lean and mean, no unnecessary bling. Just figured I'd throw in my 2 cents....... Oh, and if your considering the Medcon barrel, GRAB IT cause they go OOS real fast. |

Those that have been waiting/looking for a rainier arms medcon barrel, Rog tactical said on there facebook page there expecting some 16" ones in tomorrow, so might want to check them out tomorrow, good prices and free shipping.
