Did the Soviets use them in that configuration? I have been told by a former Russian soldier that fought in Afghanistan that he and others used AKMs that were modified in the field by shortening the barrel and fitting an AK74u fsb/gb combo whilst still using a standard AKM gas piston..BUT...i can find no documented or pictorial evidence to back up what he told me so im on the fence about that one. The tourniquet and wound dressing strapped to the folding stock was a common sight in Afghanistan, so i added it to get it looking like an AK74u from that era.I would not be able to shorten the barrel as it has to be over 300mm in length to comply with UK firearms legistlation. It started out as an AK-104 configured Saiga but i dont like black plastic etc.I also have a set of handguards that were brought back from Kosova that i had fitted.......so i can alternate between two conflicts so to speak .I gave it a bit of 'wear' with a scothbrite pad without going wild, the receiver dust cover is actually exactly as it was brought back from Kosova so the rifle that was on originally must have seen some serious use.Must admit i do like the BFPU look but my Romanian AKM (which has all mint Soviet laminated furniture, slant muzzle brake,Correct Soviet AKM 1000m rear sight and mint Izhmash Bakelite mags) is staying exactly as it is!!!. |

Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading.

Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

Sure.
Started out as a Saiga .223. sporter configuration. Did the standard rear-end conversion. The rear was welded up and smoothed out. The barrel was turned from a blank, since it is a bit beefier for the dimpling, a custom FSP/Gasblock was made to fit. The barrel is now a 30cal, chambered in 300BLACKOUT. That's a fixed polymer triangle buttstock,Tango Down Grip, Texas Weapon Systems Top Cover, Solar Tactical safety and Magwell, the trigger and hammer pins are Nickle Boron coated. The Optic is a Pride and Fowler 300BLK 1.25-4X Supper/Sub, Suppressor is an AAC SDN-6 Color is Cerakote Tungsten. I think that covers that. |
