October 27, 2007

The Benton Gun Club will be hosting a carbine match following our regular IDPA match on October 27, 2007. Sign in will be at 1pm and the match will begin at 1:30. Match fee will be $10. There will be 4 stages of fire with a minimum round count of 132. Targets will a mix of steel and paper at distances that will vary from 5 to 200 yards.

Shooters will be split up into 3 classes, each with 2 divisions. Classes will be .22 caliber, .30 caliber and pistol caliber. Each class will have 2 divisions - tactical (red dot or magnified optics) and irons (iron sights only).

Scoring and Rules will be similar to that in IDPA. When you come to the range have your bolt locked back and no ammo/mag in firearm. We will provide a rifle rack on each stage and all rifles will be racked when not shooting, When transporting rifles to and from stages please carry then with the muzzle up. Magazine must be retained for a tactical reload. Targets will be engaged from cover. All targets must be engaged in tactical priority unless course description requires otherwise. All range safety rules apply.

Equipment: Rifle with at least 3 magazines, eye and ear protection is required. Full auto is not allowed as per club bylaws. Short Barreled Rifles and Suppressors will be allowed, but all NFA laws apply. Magazines may hold a maximum of 35 rounds. Any magazine carrier is allowed (mag clamps, vests, chest rigs, belt or leg pouches). There is no limit to the number of magazines you may carry on your person. It is recommended to have at least 200 round of ammunition. We will be shooting steel targets, so no AP or steel core ammunition is allowed. If in doubt don’t even think about using it. If you put holes or damage our steel you will be responsible for replacement. Knee and elbow pads are allowed because some shots will be taken from a knee or prone.

I have made some changes above and here are some quick additions:
Smallest caliber allowed will be .223. No .22 - rimfire or otherwise. We are discussing the use of 5.7 X 28 and if we will allow it or not. If you plan on shooting something exotic, please drop me an email.

That is fine, it will fall into the .22 class. I just don't want someone to show up with a 10/22 w/ 30 round mags and expect to be a go.

We discourage picking up brass during the event (it is a safety issue). After we tear down all the stages, you are allowed to pick up all the brass you want. We just ask that you pick up what you shoot: don't come out with steel cased ammo and pick up .308 brass, etc. We have had guys come to our steel matches, shoot .22 and try pick up .45 brass. That is a quick way to get on your match directors bad side.

We go to thinking about this and holding the IDPA match in the morning and the carbine match in the after noon did not leave competitors much time to go get something to eat between matches.

So we were thinking for a Match Fees of $15.00 we would provide drinks and lunch. The drinks would be available through out both matches as well as lunch.
For lunch we were thinking about pizza. If you shoot both the IDPA and Carbine Match the fee is just $20.00. Shoot just the IDPA match that morning and it will be $10.00.

Is the match fee to high for this?
Let us know we can work something out. Also let us know if you are planing to come just so we have some idea to plan on the food and drinks.

Right now we are going to have Coke,Diet Coke and Dr Pepper for drinks. Is this good or is there other brands we need? For Pizza I was thinking about little Caesar's some with their three meat, pepperoni, and a few ultimate supremes.

So let us know and we will do our best to have something for everone.

Didn't ask for pics to make folks feel uncomfortable, only to get a feeling of what's going on and "share" in the online community.

SUCCESS! A great time was had by all. Cajunboy needs some teeth pulled for the 8 inch steel shillouettes at 200 freaking yards, but I managed to shock myself and got my 5. It took me forever, but hell I got em. Got to some interesting guns. OP3SD took a lotta pics, dunno when he'll be posting them.
