The shoot will take place on Saturday, October 28th at the Knob Creek Gun Range. KCR has been kind enough to allow us to use the lower private range all to ourselves. All regular range rules apply. Tannerite will be allowed, with proper safety precautions of course ( to be used at the end of the range ). Also, we are going to have at least one car for everyone to shoot up. You can bring other targets as you please, just prepare to take away what you bring, which should be in pieces  Time: the range opens at 9am, so let's plan on it beginning at 10am Price: just the standard KCR range fee of $9 per person for the day. Now, for those that have not been to Knob Creek Range before ( shame on you!!! ): Here is a Map Of Knob Creek's location And here is a link that you can input your address and then get driving directions automatically to Knob Creek Range: Driving Directions Ok, any questions, comments? Let's go ahead and have folks chime in here if they plan of comming, I know I'll be there  Oh yeah, members here from other states are definately welcome! Edited to add: Just for clarification: This is not the biannual KNOB CREEK MACHINEGUN SHOOT, this is just an Ar15.com Hometown Forum get together. The regular infamous biannual Knob Creek Machinegun shoot is October 13th, 14th, and 15th. Our AR15.com KY Hometown Forum get together is Oct. 28th. I know several folks have been confused about this, and understandably so. Edited 10-13 to add: Ky_Bob has agreed to be our safety organizer (thanks, Bob!!). He has posted some guidlines for us all to use on shoot day on page 4 of this topic. I'll cut and paste them here as well:

Count me in-- If it's ok, I would like to bring a few friends along who I are interested in getting into this type of hobby. I have only live in the Louisville area for about a year. We did these shoots all the time in Birmingham, AL. They started to get almost too big. I want to thank you for taken the time to put it on. Now I really need to get that 7.62X39 ammo in. |

I assume full auto is welcome? Count me as tentative until I find out more about my schedule. Will we get the whole lower range or just the shed? I would like a spot for a belt fed or two if I end up going and do not want to get in anyones way if they are shooting from the shelter. Dave |
Definately, Dave. Full auto is welcome and encouraged!! In fact, Kenny of Knob Creek said he had no restrictions for the lower range, just the same rules as the main range apply. So if you bring 10 miniguns, we'll find room for ya, lol. We get full use of the whole lower range to my understanding. I will be sure to ask that when I call back with a couple of other questions, but I'm 99.9% sure that is correct, we get the full lower range.
Good deal, Bob. I will have 1 friend with me for sure, and 2 friends as long as he doesn't opt for hunting instead. I've yet to experience the tannerite personally, just watched it at the machine gun shoots of course. I'm going to order some tomorrow. In fact, I see that it's on sale even  www.tannerite.com

Otter Creek State Park is not too far away and is a nice place to visit in itself. Knob Creek has camping during the shoot so you might want to call and ask them if they will allow you to that weekend. I will do some more checking and see what I can come up with. BTW: I think I was present when your avatar video was shot. That short shotgun was a hoot! Bob |

I'm looking forward to meeting the KY members at KCR in October. I haven't been on a range since I left the Army in 2000. I don't own a firearm (yet!) but I'll be rectifying that sometime if I can get my wife warmed to the idea. We've got small children and she thinks it's dangerous. C'mon...I was in the Infantry! I think I know a bit about firearms safety. $$$'s tight as always so I'll likely build an AR-15 a little at a time. This website is a tremendous source of info but I'd appreciate any insight anyone can offer as well. Thanks in advance and I'll see you in October. |
Oh well, gas is too expensive anyway. How about a M79gry al la CMMG? Basically its just a reloadable mortor fireworks tube duct taped to a piece of 2X4.

The range we have reserved for just us Arfcommers, our tannerite and our car target is the lower private range, and it is labeled as 100 yards, but I think it goes a little further than that actually. Of course, anyone that wanted to shoot longer ranges could always go up to the main 350 yard range and shoot. We won't have any spots dedicated to us up there, so just first come first serve as any normal range day there. But your $9 range fee covers the whole range for the day. |
| Alright guys--I go so excited about this shoot I placed an order for a BGA Viper .50 cal yesterday!!!!!! Should be ready in about 4 weeks. Wife still loves me but is concerned. I justified it to her by saying "Well, if Jeep29 doesn't bring his we may not have one"---J/K It may not have optics on it by that time but what the hell. |
Now that's enthusiasm, I like that!! I had two cases of Tannerite delivered to me today at my office. The guy who signed for the box thought it was shop parts and didn't see my name on it so he opened it. You should have seen the look on his face when he brought this large box full of bottles with bright orange stickers saying "Binary Explosive" in to me, lol. He really wasn't sure what to think until I explained it to him, lol

| This sounds like fun. Hopefully I can be there, but trying to explain to the wife that I'm making a 2+ hour trip to KCR for the second time in 2 weeks ain't gonna be easy. Does anyone know if KCR will have a range officer or two on the lower range for this event? |
Not sure about that, but I wouldn't be surprised that they would have someone around, especially if as many as it looks show up. Once we get closer to the date and have a good feel of how many are coming I'll be letting Kenny @ KCR know our numbers so there are no surprises for anyone. |

Every ARFCOM shoot I have been to has had a safety briefing before the shoot on do's and dont's as well as loading/clearing procedures. IE, no inserted mags except on the line, remove mags before leaving the line, all racked/tabled weapons must have the action open, no handling of weapons during a clear, and so on. I think we could police ourselves, especially if everyone is keeping an eye on the line and each other. In my experience, firearms handling safety has almost been a non-issue. Perhaps we could have a few folks assigned as RO's before the shoot and they could post the rules in this thread for clarity. Bob |

I left the Army in May 2000 so it's been 6+ years since I've done range duty. I may be a little rusty when it comes to proper range procedures, but since I have no firearm to bring I'll volunteer for RO. I won't get there until after 11 and won't be staying the whole day though. |

Bob, you are 100% correct, and safety is a requirement for anyone showing up for this event. I think most everyone here probably is aware enough to understand this, but it WILL be reminded to everyone before and during the shoot. Don't let that discourage any of you from bringing any inexperienced friends or loved ones with you. Newbies of all sorts are welcome, and the rules and safety will be explained to all. It kind of all depends on how many folks show up, but judging by the interest so far, which has been GREAT, I think having a few folks just watching out for everyone is a no brainer. I know everyone can take care of themselves when they are at their local range, but we don't want any problems during this event, as we want to be able to do this sort of thing again and again hopefully. This is an event to be a good time for all, and having a safe range and safe range users will help that. So far it sounds like we are going to have a little bit of everything show up to this, so this could be a great chance for people to see and experience things up close that they might not have had access to before. In fact, anyone with troubles getting the ok from the significant other, you can just tell them you are coming to broaden your cultural awareness I know I'm personally looking forward to Ky_Bob sharing his infinite wisdom of tannerite with us

As was said .....if so needed we can elect one of us from the group to be RSO. knob creeks RSO should be avoided if possible, they wont let you shoot prone , at least not at the upper range Did we find anything out about pot luck? Whos gona bring a dish? can we bring a dish? am i going to get sick from your dish?  should be fun, anyone have a video cam?? |
