It was brought up in the Frozen Buckeye Shoot, and I want to make it official! Let's organize and make it happen, this year for our winter extravaganza let's head to Kentucky and invade KY_Bob's territory in style. He and I will make it happen if we can get a group together to make it worthwhile. I'm definately up for it, so let's see if we can make it a reality. If we can do this in the next month or so, who's in??? |
Camping for us crazy folks, but there are hotels in Shephardsville and the next exit up. I just bought a nice little propane heater that's just peachy for tents, so I'll be snoozing in warm comfort, but I can understand wanting hot water and dirty movies on demand.

Do you have to pay to shoot there? I'm very interested... pending cost. Yahoo says the drive is 3 hrs 10 minutes... I've driven to Louisville and back in one day, but I think an overnight trip would be better, especailly if I take the Ms. Hmm... put me down as possible. We'll have to cross post this in the Kentucky forum. |
Im in on this as well. I may even see about draggin a girl along with me that I have been dating. I have told her I was gonna put a full auto in her hands one day and she is a lil squirmish on it but Ill make it happen one way or another. So Ill prolly get a room if I bring her down

It will be later in Jan, or early Feb more than likely, and I'm working on the details with KY_Bob, should know something soon about details, cost, etc. Since they just did a shoot there this fall, we should have a rough idea of what it costs to rent out the range and such. |
My little Heater Buddy is indoors rated. In an airy tent, it should be GTG. |
If not I got dibs on the guns eta Oh, and Feb would be much better for me. |
Dunno yet, from what I understand the problem with the fall shoot is that the upper range is controlled by the KCR range officers, more strict. I'd like to shoot on the big range once too, if it's not a PITA. Bob is contacting Kenny about the whole idea. I don't personally care much if it's on the lower range if it's more fun to do so. I have never gone to Millers, and especially the winter shoots for serious range time. More just having fun with friends, to me. |

I'd be in for a shoot on the upper range. If I'm going to drive down to KCR to shoot, it's going to be on the upper range. FWIW I've never had a problem with the range officers during the big shoots. I've had a spot on the main line twice, and nobody gave me any problems at all. |
It is nice to get all us guys with cabin fever together in one place.

| Im thinkin if we get a big enough group together interested that we could possily just rent the upper range. I mean, if there is 50 of us total from here and Kentucky. If we would all say thow in $20 that would be $1,000. Im sure Kenny would let us have our way for a Saturday afternoon for $1,000, then again, he may make more than that if he leaves it open for public use. |

Ok, here we go. I finally got to talk to Kenny at Knob Creek. The dates available are February 3rd or 10th at Knob Creek. Camping will cost $10.00 per head per night. This is primitive camping no electricity, no running water, no facilities except at the range during range hours. We can have a porta potty for the weekend for a $100.00 fee. Or we can wander off into the woods and dig a hole. Range fees are $10.00 per head per day. We can get the lower range (~100 yards maybe a little longer) completely to ourselves or share the upper main range with the general public. We will have one end roped off for our own use if we choose the main range but will be subject to the clears that are called for us during normal range time. If we get the lower range there is nothing stopping you from going to the large range. If we want a vehicle to shoot it will cost around $150.00. They will deliver it and dispose of it for us on the upper OR lower range. Tannerite is OK at 100 + yards. Check out the Ky home forum on some pics of the last shoot we had there. The van had huge holes blown in it from the tannerite. The restaurant/grill will be open in the range but you should plan on providing your own food. We need to settle on a date very quickly, say by next weekend. We need to settle on whether or not a vehicle to shoot is needed. I will say that it MADE the Ky shoot last month. I'm thinking the same thing....I have a "too fucking cold" cutoff of about 20 degrees at night. Below that and sleeping outside is teh suck. I'm an Arizona kid, I can't take those arctic temperatures at night. |

I bought a fairly expensive "0 Degree" bag last year, but I've discovered that one man's "0" is another's 56 fahrenheit. I survived a few nights of frigid, but I wasn't comfortable at all. I'm just not built for it. Brian, on the other hand, was sleeping near my tent in his bermuda shorts on top of the blanket. He must be Irish with a smidge of Innuit. I'm a big cold-blooded sissy. If I use the heater and get the tent roasty I might make it. Depends on the severity of the temps. If it's in the 20/30 range, I'll brave it. Any colder than that, I'm getting hammered in a hotel room and watching nasty movies.

cgcg97 has a good point. For our KY shoot, we were told that .50 and tracers were not allowed on the lower range. Tannerite is allowed down there, but it's on the edge of safe being only 100 yards and all. My vote is for upper range too, where everything goes, but will just be happy with whatever you guys come up with, I'm ready to shoot some more, even if it would be next to some buckeyes I'd also be up to chipping in on a vehicle to shoot up. Thanks to you guys and Bob for getting this together. |

I'm in. The 3rd works best for me. I'll camp, you guys are pussies. The liquer should get my internal temp up to about 100 deg. (At least thats what I'll think). I say go for the car and do it right. Thats something we had been trying to get Tim to allow up here anyway.
