I would like to remind everyone that the third Central Florida Defensive Carbine shoot will be held on the 21st of February at the Volusia County Gun and Hunt Club. This is a fun shoot with a competitive element. The best way to describe it is IDPA with rifles. Registration is at 08:00, safety briefing is at 08:45, and shooting starts around 09:00. Cost is $10 for VCG&HC members, $15 for non-members. You only need an AR-15 style rifle, about 200 rounds of ammo, hearing protection (electronic preferred), three magazines, and a good attitude. We would like you to have a Boonie Packer Chamber Flag for every rifle you bring but if you can't get any by the 21st, we have a few extras. Don't sweat it. I am still looking for volunteer ROs. If you are interested, please email me at ayan AT ayan DOT net. One of the perks of ROing is free admission! I'll begin setting up the stages at 15:00 the day before. Still –– if you are an hour and a half away, I don't recommend coming. I appreciate the help but it doesn't make sense. I am considering scheduling the shoot a little later in the day and doing all of the set-up on Sunday. This way, everyone can help out –– even the people who drive a long distance. |

I usually drive 30 minutes to Shoot Straight in Lake Mark to zero anyway, PLUS paying to shoot; so driving another 25 minutes and saving some cash wouldnt be too bad... |

I was wondering if new members would be able to participate. I've been lurking here some time and this thread was brought to my attention actualy on another forum. Im glad to see events like this going on more frequently in florida. Im from South Florida myself, and finding a half decent rifle shoot is, well, challenging. At any rate, I thought I'd make myself known officialy. Glad to be on here. |

If you are asking if the shoot is open to new CFDCC members, then awew911 summed it up pretty well. At the moment, we are only loosely a club and members are those who come to the shoots. :) If you mean "new members" as in members who are new to shooting, then the answer is yes with reservations. Our primary goals are to be safe and have fun –– in that order. Obviously, I'd prefer if you had a solid understanding of how to safely operate your firearms. If you don't feel comfortable with this, you might want to spectate first to see what you're getting yourself into. Ideally, you will have had some kind of training with your rifle and participated in some kind of shooting sport like IDPA or 3-gun. I hope one of those is the answer to your question! -ayan |

I have been shooting for some time and am familiar and comofortable with firearms (and all saftey aspects), but it would be my first group sized "competition style" carbine shoot. Im not 100% if I would be able make it yet. Im a bit of a drive of a way down in Palm Beach County. I just wanted to introduce myself really, say hello to the other Florida members and at the very least say thanks for getting these together. |

FYI, the South Florida Defensive Carbine Club meets in your neck of the woods. That is one of the Florida clubs (along with the FDCC up near Jacksonville) that the CFDCC is based on. |

For those of you who are not on the announcement mailing list, here is an update I posted today:
––––- Shooters, Here are a few things I'd like to discuss about upcoming shoots: CHAMBER FLAGS Chamber flags are now *required*. Come on, you knew it was coming! I strongly prefer the Boonie Packer "Chamber Checker". You can get them by following the link below: http://www.redi-mag.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=8 They'll also be available for sale at the range at a very reasonable price. REQUEST FOR SET-UP HELP We set up stages on Saturday at 15:00. We try to have all of the wall segments, doors, barrels, target stands, &c positioned so we only have to staple targets the next morning. Any help will be appreciated. The more people, the better. If you will be able to come on Saturday, pleases let me know. Likewise, any help setting up the morning of the shoot would be appreciated as well. RULES To settle any questions about rules, know that we are using IDPA rules for safety, scoring, and procedures almost exactly. This includes penalties like FTN, FTDR, HNT, procedural, &c. I am working on an official CFDCC Rule Book but until then, participants should read the relevant sections of the IDPA Rule Book. The sections that apply are: * Safety Rules (pg 6) * Competition Rules (pg 8) * Penalties (pg 14) * Approved IDPA Reloads (pg 41) * Scoring (pg 44) The IDPA Rule Book is at the following link: http://www.idpa.com/Documents/IDPARuleBook2005.pdf Obviously, none of the equipment rules apply. We do not have any classes or divisions. This leads me to the next topic: ALLOWED RIFLES AND MODIFICATIONS Any semi-automatic rifle chambered in an intermediate center-fire cartridge will do. By intermediate, I mean anything smaller than or equal to 7.62x39. This includes center-fire pistol caliber rifles. Any modifications are okay as long as they are legal (by law) and do not raise a safety issue. This includes compensators, suppressors, any kind and any number of aiming devices including pointers, magnified optics, red-dot sights, &c. All properly registered NFA items are allowed including SBRs, suppressors, and full auto. Have your paperwork –– you never know when the ATF will pay a visit. I would like to limit the amount of gamesmanship but at the distances we're shooting, I can't imagine any modifications that would allow a significant advantage. CFDCC SAFETY OFFICERS/SQUAD LEADERS Starting *now*, I would like to only have qualified squad leaders. Only those SOs will be allowed to run a squad and we will only have as many squads as we have qualified SOs. (I hope that makes sense.) If you would like to be an SO, please let me know. One of the perks of being an SO is that you shoot for free! The sooner we establish a group of good SOs, the sooner we will be able to add pistols to the stages. Is anyone from South Florida going? If so, what are your travel plans? Im trying to think of the most time efficient way to get up there and was thinking of coming up Saturday night and finding either a cheap place to sleep or bunk in the back of the jeep in a wal-mart parking lot (hey, its free! ).
I'd offer to help set up, but wouldnt be coming in till late saturday, but if yall need a hand sunday morning before or post registration I'd be happy to help set up/pain targets, etc. |

Can people come and spectate? AR will be coming in Monday so won't be able to participate but would like to see what is entailed in the event so that I can make it out to the next one. Hopefully I'll have enough range time and practice before I head out there for the next one. Looking forward to becoming an active member of the florida AR15.com community

Please come and spectate. If you don't shoot, you don't have to pay the range fee but you'll still need eye and ear protection. |

Thanks for helping out guys! If the range wasn't so busy, the 12:00 set-up crew would have had everything complete by 3:30 or so. I really appreciate everyone who showed up! Just FYI, three stages require magazines down-loaded to 10 rounds. One stage requires two magazines down loaded to 10 rounds. If Sunday is anything like today, the weather is going to be beautiful. It will be a good day to shoot! I hope you guys have a good time at the match tomorrow. |

Hey guys. Stopped by for a bit at around 1:30pm. Asian guy with spikey hair, that's me. Wanted to come earlier to check out the whole thing but still recovering from a bachelor party last night. At least now I know what I'll need and somehow how it works.

Still have some scoring questions from squad 6. We were told by different SO's that a target with only one hit is still a failure to neutralize. IDPA rule book says differently (this penalty applies to any target that does not have at least one four zone (minus 1) or higher value hit). Can someone explain?
Also, we had a inquisitive discussion about dropping a mag with ammo in it not being a penalty if it was due to a malfunction. IDPA rule book states in appendix two that there is a exception for malfunction clearing. Great shoot, great COF's, Great SO (I'd love to squad up with Scott again) |
