I bought my AXR because it took AR mags. I didn't want to have to buy any new mags. I stumbled accross a USR stock on GB and decided to bid on it. Well, I won it. I was the first bidder (it started at $100.00) and it was complete with ejection port cover, buttplate, sling swivel and fore grip. The snipers tried to get me at the last minute and I prevailed. I really had no use for it, but it was cheap and I'll be damned if I lose an auction.
I was thinking it would be kinda cool if I could use it with my AXR. I would have the option of AR or AUG mags. I spoke with kent about 922r compliance. My AXR would be good to go with import mags if I changed one part to a U.S made part on this stock. I'm going to change two because I may decide to use the fore grip as well. Either way kent has some parts that will help USR owners to convert to a pre-ban style AUG. 
The tools I used. 
I made sure the reciever fit first before doing any mods. It had to be modded for the barrel takedown lever. 
I had to take a little off of the inside of the ejection port (forward lower corner) for the reciever to slide in far enough to latch. 
After the reciever was fitted, I cut the thumbhole out with a hacksaw and cleaned it up with a die grinder. 
I cleaned up the cut with a sanding drum on a dremel and a file. I wet sanded the area with 220 grit paper and buffed it with tripoli with a buffing wheel in the dremel. 
Now everything is good to go.

I remember your post about the Cali angle to owning an AXR. I think it would be of great benefit to some of the guys here if you did a tutorial or breakdown of the Cali laws for people who are interested but don't realize they can own an AXR also. |

You need a non-detachable mag and at least a 30" OAL. So a Raddlock with a 10rd mag, and a 18 or 20" bbl will make it CA legal. This device only works with the MSAR or AUG stocks, since the NATO stock that AXR uses has an extra mag catch.

What parts did you/can you change to use the USR stock? I'm going to change the disconnector and the trigger in the USR stock. My AXR only has six parts that are on the list of imported parts. TPD changes the trigger and disconnector on the NATO stock for compliance and I'm doing the same to the USR stock. I can then use imported AUG mags. (three more parts=9 imported parts). This puts me under the 10 or less imported parts rule. I may change the foregrip also which would put me at 10 imported parts. I have no real reason for changing the stock to use AUG mags. other than to say I did. AR mags seem to function pretty well in my AXR. I found the USR stock at a nice price and bid on it. I thought it would be pretty cool to have the option of AUG mags (mostly 42rd. mags), but AR mags will probably be my primary mags.

I may change the color of the stock but I haven't decided yet. It would probably be a good base for some type of urban camo but it's not my style. Question: When talking about Austrian AUG mags, the green/black colors refer to the floorplate only, right? I'm looking at some 42rd. mags and was curious. The mags look the same in the pics but the floorplates are different colors. |
