I have a State Arms Shorty with a 30" barrel and I'm now looking for a case ,hard or soft, to transport (bring to the range) it in. I would prefer to transport it in one piece and not have to break it down every time it goes somewhere. Any suggestions?

I have starlight, pelican, storm, and aluminum cases.
I'm partial to the Hardigg Storm cases. I think they lock down and seal up better than the Pelican, but it's a close call. The Starlight is bombproof, but hard to close and just not as technologically advanced with the latches. Aluminum is for the birds. SOA |
| I have a Pelican and Starlight and I agree with the previous comment. The starlight is amazing but is tough to latch and can be even harder to open sometimes. The Pelican is a breeze to open and close. I can't speak for any others but between those 2 brands, I would say if it's just for transporting to the range, then Pelican without a doubt. |

I'm using a Starlight for my AR50, mainly because I already had the case (bought 5+ years ago for <$100 at Sam's), and I was able to purchase pre-cut high density foam for the AR-50 from Starlight. I own Pelican, Storm and Starlight cases. My first choice for most applications is Storm because I like their latches better. Next in line is Pelican. Starlight comes last because they aren't quite as refined. Starlight has updated their latches, but the cases still don't always close easily. Overall the fit, finish and features on Starlight is a couple notches below the other two. With that said, the folks at Starlight are very pleasant and easy to deal with. They often have demo/blem cases available at substantial discounts. Pelican and Storm are in the same ballpark pricewise. Depending on where you shop, one brand could be $25 more or less than the other for similar sized cases. Starlight is about 15% cheaper in most instances, and a lot less if you can get a demo/blem direct from the factory. |

I am not as well versed as the above gentlemen, but I do have a pelican also. It has to be one of the easiest cases that I have own to close and latch. And there is enough room to put my Ferret-50 with 36" barrel in it, sans the brake. Along with the AR-15 lower (removed from the upper), the brake and a .223 20 rnd mag. that I filled with lead. With a little bit of space left over.
Them storm look real nice, but I just could not justify the extra expense at the time. |

I have a half dozen different State Arms rifles and have tried several cases. I have 3 Starlight cases that work well with the tactical stock but have to remove the brake to make them fit. No problem though as the brake comes off very easy and I take it off to clean anyway. I cut out a place in the foam for the brake and the bolt. I tried the Gun Gaurd plastic case and they are pretty good for the money, about $100.00, don't know how much abuse they can take. I have had mine for about 5 years and it is still holding up fine. They are almost identical in size to the Starlight. The Starlight cases can be a bear to open and close when new but mine are much easier to open and close now after some use. I have found that they close easier if I close one end first then work my way across snapping the other 3 latchs closed. If I try closing the ends first then one of the middle latchs won't close. My oldest one is very easy to open and close but my newest one is still a bear to open a couple of the latchs, but for $94.00 at Sams Club I can put up with the tough opening. Wish I would have bought a dozen at the time, they have never had them back in stock since then.

Another +1 to the Storm.
Pelican latches can be an absolute pain in the ass to open and close, IMO. Storm makes just as good of a case, if not better, and the latches can be opened with your thumb and pinkie. Compared to "I need a breaker bar and a linebacker to get this damn latch open" on some of the Pelicans I've used. Another option are the Explorer cases, sold through Ameripack. |

I'm thinking of this soft case for my Bushmaster BA-50. It is similar in size, overall length, and shape as the Armalite AR-50. I E-Mailed them to see if they can supply some more information, but they haven't responded yet. I want a case for to and from the range without having to take the gun down to transport it. Bill T. |

That is the Bag-Man case that ArmaLite sells. I had one for a few weeks. The gun didn't fit that well, and is too heavy for a soft case IMO. |

-Didn't know about the pre-cut AR-50 foam... I had to drink beer and carve away at it. 
I've taped those cases shut and mailed guns to myself cross-country probably a dozen times in those cases... I hate I sold two of them off. Once you give the latches a little TLC (sandpaper and some Vaseline) they aren't so bad to open. |

I'm thinking of the Extra Large one. It's 18" X 66", and not a bad buy for $87.95. I haven't seen too many around big enough to accept these size rifles for under $200.00. Has anyone delt with this place? Bill T. |

I just placed an order for one. It should be here in 7 to 10 days. I'll let you guys know how it is when I get it. It came to $102.70 shipped UPS Ground. 18" x 66" should give me plenty of room to play with. The standard .50 BMG case would have been a tight fit. Bill T. |
