My thoughts exactly.

It's a sad day when people start buying Korean parts for their Glocks. Maybe Khan or KCI or whoever they are can build Glock slides and Frames and internal components for all the cheap bastards.

Chance what? As to why, well lets see...

1. The days of cheap factory Glock mags are over. The KIC G18 mags cost $20. I haven't seen anybody selling factory G18 mags for less then $45 for a while now. So for the same money as a factory G18 mag, you can by 2 KCI G-18 mags and have enough money left over to almost fill one of them with ammo. Back when Glock mags only cost $13-$15 ea. (and G-18's were going for $25) then I could see your point (the cost savings did not warrant the risk) but that was then, this is now.

2. For most people, G18 mags are nothing more then novelty range mags. That being the case, is 100% reliability really all that essential?

3. Why does everybody (particularly people who have never even held on in their hand) automatically assume they won't be 100% reliable? Do you guys really think that Glock is the only company in the world that can make a reliable magazine? Is Colt the only company that can make a reliable magazine for the AR-15 or 1911? I realize the first few Glock mags clones by companies like ProMag and the like have put a bad taste in peoples mouths re: aftermarket Glock mags but these aren't promags.

Am I going to buy any of these? No but not because they are made by KCI but because I really don't see the point of a G-18 mag in a semi-auto 9mm Glock? I have a few factory G18 mags that I bought when I saw the prices going up and found a place still selling them for $25. That was a year ago and they are still sitting unused in my parts locker. On the other hand, I can definitely see a purpose in have cheap ($10ea) G17 and G19 mags. I have 10 KCI G-17 mags and so far they have been 100%. Are they as well built as factory mags? No but they work and for ranges mags I feel they are just fine. For what I paid for these 10 KCI mags, I could have only bought 4 factory mags at today's prices. That means that if they only last half as long, I'm still 2 mags ahead.

IF they make you happy, more power to ya.  Some of those Korean mags have been having trouble, Khan(?) maybe. The KCI mags seem to be working for most people, but honestly the price of real mags is not all that expensive.  We have all just been spoiled from the low prices over the last 4 years.  I have never seen any long term aftermarket mags for glocks that have stood up, if you have please list them.

Here is a quote from 44mag on the Korean G17 mas they are selling....
These Koreans magazines have generally been very reliable for us. The most recent magazines have come from the Khan factory and have not had as good of a reputation. The most common problem is plastic flashing being left over from manufacturing process. This can usually be cleaned up quite easily. Magazines will be either blank floorplate (KCI) or Khan marked.

This item sold as is. No returns on this item.

I added the red.  Not what I would call a ringing endorsement for these mags.

Can another manufacture make a 100% reliable mags, sure they can.  I just have not seen one as of yet.  Maybe those KCI mags will over time, but maybe not.

Now Beretta mags are a different story.  I can't find a mag that jams my 92. I was given some USA and unmarked mags during the ban. All ran 100%. I was also given some pro mags for my AR during the ban, all were junk.  Never was able to run a full mag w/o a failure.  I just don't like to be a guinea pig for an unknown product.

I'd be more upset about the price of ammo, then the price of good quality mags.

Why?  It was inevitable that the aftermarket would eventually supply the Glock market as it has for the 1911 market, since they're nearly identically high on the popularity charts.

Is it an abomination to use non Colt parts on a Colt 1911 frame?  The answer is no BTW.  How about all the aftermarket frames and clones of the 1911?  Now we can build nearly en entire aftermarket Glock, save for a few small parts.  There are aftermarket slides, barrels, triggers and now even frames of varying materials.  Why should magazines be any different?

I agree and nor do I. I'm sorry if I'm coming off that way. I just get little tired of reading people on the internet shitting on products they have no experience with, especially new products that haven't even been out long enough to really have a "history" yet. I do understand your hesitation and don't blame you for not wanting to be a guinea pig for a new, untested product but I don't understand why you would talk bad about these mags and infer then anybody who is willing to lay their money down to give them a try is stupid? Maybe that's not what you meant but that's how I took it.

Everything starts off as something new and untested. Some of these things turn out to be junk and some turn out to be gems. Some even start off shaky at first and then get tweaked into something very good. The point is, we won't know about these Kahn mags until people start buying them and using them. All I'm saying is lets wait until we have some first hand reports before we declare these mags as POS's. Fair enough?

Have a good weekend

Unlike Glocks, 1911 pistols are made by many different manufacturers and differently from mfg to mfg. Most work differently with different magazines, some better than others. Sometimes one has to try various magazines to see which ones work best in their particular pistol. Also, 1911 mags can offer many different features such as 7 rnd vs 8 rnd etc, stainless and various finishes, different floor plates, different followers, etc. Furthermore, none of the "quality" 1911 mags I've ever purchased for my EB's or Wilsons were made in Asia either.

In the case of the Glock, there is ONE manufacturer of the Glock pistol and the Glock factory magazines work fine. The Asian copy magazines offer NOTHING over the Glock factory mags in terms of quality or features. So, my question is why then dick around with Asian mags just to save a few bucks?  Cutting corners with cheap Asian magazines only defeats the purpose of buying a quality pistol to begin with.

Unless there is something I've missed, perhaps you could tell me what it is that the Asian copy mags offer over the Glock factory magazines regarding quality and features?

First let me say that I respect your opinion very much and you are very knowledgeable and have shown/educated me a lot about Glocks, but I don't see what is wrong with getting these mags for range use. Why spend the $25-30ea for factory mags and beat the crap out of them when you could get these for $10 and save the factory mags for the real "work"? If they break so what, they're disposable, but in the case pictured above it's an easy fix.

I wouldn't use the Korean mags for CCW, that is what my factory mags are for. But if these save wear and tear on my factory mags then I'd say that's a good investment, especially for those who shoot a ton and run courses that are hard on mags. Not to mention the crazy prices and availability rollercoaster we have been on in the last year as far as factory mags goes.

YMMV

There is nothing wrong with getting them for the reasons you stated, nothing at all and I'm sorry if my comments showed disrespect towards you or anyone else with regard to using these mags. In rereading my comments in this thread I can see where I was a little too opinionated. I do see the mags as a one time investment though and while they can break and have issues, Glock warrantys them for life. I guess when people mention range mags and such, i think of the preban mags I have with old followers and original springs that I use at the range and they keep going and going........ I personally would rather have a few less mags that are all Glock original, than to have more mags consisting of aftermarket mags. That is just my opinion and I'm certainly not the final word on this. I dont know what Glock mag prices are at and i dont know what the korean mags are going for either and I suppose, perhaps at some point if I needed additional mags for just range use, and depending on availability of stock mags,  I *may* consider alternatives... There would have to be a huge price difference between them and factory mags though.

The range use argument seems to be popular with everybody that is trying to justify going cheap on gun stuff.  Why not just buy used Glock Factory mags if they're just for range use?

I have had no trouble finding used 10 rounders and even the occasional used full cap mag for less than $15 (9mm and .40 varieties).

For a no return - as is sale, I would expect the import mags to be much less expensive - like $5-6/each for the regular ones and maybe $10/each for the 33 rounders.  Afterall, these are pretty much dollar store mags and they should have more of a dollar store price.

The above is just my 14 Yuan (that's about 2 cents in US dollars at today's exchange rate).

There is a big difference between being cheap and getting a good deal. I have over 30 factory full capacity G17 mags. Even at the old prices, that ain't a cheap investment by anybody's standard. Some of us feel the KCI mags (at least in G19 and G17 flavor) represent a good value for inexpensive training mags. A few have expressed issues with the springs and some with the floor plates but both parts can be replaced cheaply and easily with factory Glock components. I myself bought them mostly for the mag bodies as I have been wanting to add some +2 extensions to some of my mags and I always replace the springs when I do that anyway. I would rather pay $10 for a mag body and follower then $25. So far I haven't seen (from my own personal experience with them) nor read any evidence to suggest that the KCI bodies are inferior to the Glock mag bodies. The only difference I have noted is that the KCI's I received did have a little more left over "flashing" then my factory Glock mags. Big deal, less then 1 minute per mag with a razor blade took care of that.

So $15 for a used 10 round factory mag or $10 for a new full cap KCI mag? One is made by Glock, one by KCI. Both may need a new spring? They both work so IMO, 6 one way, 1/2 dozen the other. One way you get a factory mag body (which so far, no one has shown that it is superior) or the other way, you save $5 and get a full capacity mag. I can see why people could go either way.You prefer to stick with the factory mags and that's cool but why does it seem to bother you that others are fine with the KCI's?

Justify it anyway you want.  I'm not saying it is good or bad, just that it is a common justifiction method.

You do know that Glock will warranty their factory mags, right?  I can't even count the number of mags I have sent them over the years that had issues and they have always sent me back new replacements - gratis.

If they are just for range use or training, what is the difference between 10 rounds and 15 or 17 rounds?  I can't think of the last time I have need a hi-cap mag to train or plink with.  It's nice to have it, but it isn't like you need it to survive doing drills.

I don't care really care what others do with their KCI's or Khan's.  I was just trying to remind folks that there were options out there that they might want to consider, instead of just going right for the cheapest one.  Afterall, if you have to replace floorplates and springs on these import mags, you're adding $5 or more to the cost of the mag.  If you paid $10 for the mag in quantity, it might not be a big deal.  If you paid $12-15 per mag because you only bought a few, you are getting close to $20 bucks into the mag, which is not far off from the $25 price that you can still buy factory mags.  If you cozy up to a dealer friend, you might also find that he/she can still buy most 9/40 Glock factory mags for under $20 and G-18 mags are under $30.

Why does it bother YOU that I am offering alternatives?

Apparently that's not true otherwise you wouldn't keep posting in these threads

Just so we're clear, I believe this is the first and only KCI/Khan thread that I have posted in.  You must have me confused with some other "high-strung douche" that keeps posting in these threads.

No I'm not confused. I've read many of your posts so I'm well aware of your "high-strung douche"-ness"

Ok, seriously before this thread and our accounts get locked. You bought up the douche comment and I was trying to lighten the conversation by agreeing with you. As far as the KCI mags go, you made your points and I've made mine. We disagree, big deal it happens. Can we get over it and move on now?

Dude - why are you so upset with my comments and taking them so personally?  Plenty of folks in this thread have been way more critical of the mags than I - go get all up in their bid'ness if you're bored or upset with your life.  I didn't even say anything good or bad about the KCI/Khan mags at all.  If you just have a problem with me, take it up with me.  You can e-mail me directly if you like or call me out in the appropriate non-tech forum if you prefer.

You really need to stop projecting your personal issues onto others and focus within. One more time because apparently it didn't sink in the first time...

Am I somehow not being clear or was your last post you're passive-aggressive way of saying no?

Dude - WTF?  Did I do something to piss you off (in another thread?  In another forum?)?

My original comments in this thread weren't even directed at you, yet you took it upon yourself to start/continue this.

ARE YOU DONE?

Ahhh, the free market of ARFCOM.  You have to love it.  You have people saying that you should spend as much as possible and then you have some saying they they are going to spend as little as possible even if it costs a bit on quality.

I guess the purpose and subject of the thread has no bearing in these epic pissing matches but I would like to just point out that after the first post there is little left in this thread.

I bought 17 KCI 'No Name Mags' from 44MAG.COM and I have used them for range use and even in two matches .  I have not a single failure.  They serve my purposes rather well.  I would rather rag out some cheap knock off mags during matches rather than my factory mags.  If this chaps your ass, I don't know what to tell ya more than I don't really care what ya think.

I am tempted to try one of these mags but I am going to wait till there is a review by someone.  Too bad there isn't one in this bitchfest.

Hey now, what are you doing injecting first hand experience in this mostly useless thread? Don't you know it's more fun trashing a product you have no experience with?

Seriously, while it sounds like you have more rounds through yours then I do mine so far, our experience with the KCI mags have been the same.

So anyone running these G18 mags?

My KCI G19 mags are good so far... I'm going to be in the open class with my new shotgun so some cheap 33rd mags may be fun.

I just ordered a couple for testing out in my sub2k.  I also have a case of ammo for the sub2k coming as well.
