Here she is in all her glory. Got it done a couple weeks ago and have been swamped at work.
Done: Draco SBR'd on Form 1 Ace folder in 8.5" (left the extra pad off it) M16 muzzle break from Aim Surplus Magpul MOE grip I modded to work Midwest Industries Rail Needs: Sling Light Sight (eventually) Shoots great, but shot it for function only so far. Little low and left at 25yds but I'll straighten it out at the distance range. Probably the most fun I've had with a gun project so far. As stated before THE REAR TRUNION IS TOUGH! Lube the tap and clean it often, 1/4 turns, slow and steady. I broke a tap in there, but thanks to ACE's great design the attatchment point has slots so I redrilled a new hole. I couldn't get the tap out so I ground it flat and no issues. Suggestion, the Cryo treated drill bit from Home Depot (mainly white package I think) is worth the $4 it cost. Thing cut through the trunion like a hot knife, I was doubting everyone saying it was tough in fact at that point. Then it schooled me lol. Im really happy with the Ace folder. Lockup is solid, the spring tension is great in the folded position so the thing does not easily open or flop. The only thing I'd love to see is a mount on the stock itself maybe that would allow a QD swivel. The rail itself is really nice, very solid and pretty easy to install. The only negative I've found so far is that the rail seems a little oversized. I could not get Larue index clips to snap. I havent tried it with any others thus far though. Anyone have a good way to sling one of these bad boys? Not the best pics, but I'll post some better ones when it's all done.

What size screws did you use to mount the folding mechanism to the trunnion? Your SBR Looks good.
I did what you did to an MOE grip and hated the feel. It scrunches up your hand against the receiver. You may like the $4.00 Ace AR grip adapter w/MOE-MIAD grip WAY better. Thats what I used the second time around. Also takes no fitting other than cutting off the top tail. |

The ones that came in the bag, I'll see if I can find the sheet and let ya know. The MOE seems to work pretty well for me, I havent had any issues so far. I was kinda worried about the ACE extender after reading they crack easily. If it becomes an issue I might try one though. |

It follows the lines of the original handguards and does not look out of place. yeah I agree, some of the others look either too small or too boxy. MI did a great job and I really was suprised by how tight the lockup is. |

I agree, Your setup blends well, everything is proportioned just right. You're gonna have alot of fun with this one.
My stamp came in saturday. 89 days door to door. I ordered the Ace folding AR interface unit on sat evening.. I'm gonna run a CTR stock. Should be done by friday. Hopefully it looks as good as yours. |

Is there any other way to get a stock on without machining? I wouldn't really consider drilling and tapping a couple of holes in the rear receiver plate, machining. It's not that bad. Worst part is the tapping and it's only a pain because you have to go so slow. |

Sweet looking. I am thinking about SBR ing my Century AKM Pistol. I like your setup especially the Midwest Industry Rail. My AKM pistol has the longer barrel/forearm/piston so hopefully Midwest or another Manuf. has a similar looking Forearm Rail. I am also going with the side folding stock and a AR type break, Phantom Comp Flash Suppressor. If she can not be controlled with it, I will go back to the Slant break (only during shooting)!
I always say that if your rifle looks good, it gives you more confidence that translates into a better shot/group. Again very nice!!! |
