I've checked all over the place, but have not found a picture thread devoted to the historical aspect of the AK.

Figured it would be cool to have one (hopefully added to the list of pic threads).

Please feel free to share your photos of AK's through out history or in Action.

I'll start this off right

It's too bad that Yugo AK picture thread you and I posted a ton of pics in went to the archives in the Yugo forum.

I'm way too lazy to repost that stuff, but there were a lot of really good historical pics in that thread.

So true.

I was thinking about that one when I wanted to do this one.  I might get the image files out of it and post it in here.

Hopefully we can get this one tacked.

I'll get some more pics up

Slants and nuts are all too common instead of a dedicated break

Ak74 (5.45x39mm) rifles have a 24mm front sight block which accomodate the muzzle brake. AK/AKM's have a 14mm front sight block which accomodate a muzzle nut or slant brake. I'm not going to elaborate on Tantal's or AIMS rifles since they are not pictured.

Really early prototype right there.  The compensator is actually part of the barrel right behind the FSB.

Early in the Iran-Iraq War, an AK-47-toting Iranian soldier watches smoke rising from burning oil refineries near the Iranian city of Abadan. The Iraqis included AK-47s in their arsenal as well, although the Soviet Union imposed an arms embargo on Iraq after Saddam Hussein’s invasion of Iran. Iraq’s new partner, the United States, was able to provide Saddam’s troops with the spare parts necessary to keep their Russian-made weapons functional.

Iraqi Army Col. Msfab Yousif reloads his AK-47 after using it to destroy a vehicle that was used in illegal checkpoint activities by insurgents in Ad Dawr near Tikrit; Iraq; Nov. 21. Yousif is the executive officer of the 1st Battalion, 1st Brigae, 4th Iraqi army and was leading the raid to find insurgents operating illegal checkpoints. Photographer: Spc. Eric Rutherford, 115th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment.

Confiscated weapons cache housed inside of a US/Iraqi army base in Sadr City.  Notice that there are no magazines in these weapons. U.S. soldiers filled their pockets with loaded magazines, intending to distribute them to local militias
