Greetings one and all!
I purchased four of these and have two presently installed. While the proof of the pudding, so to speak, will take repetitive live firing over an extended period of time, I can provide an interim report to those who care. The product is patent pending and of Israeli-manufacture. It has been my personal experience that virtually every weapon-related product produced by Israel for tactical military or personal defense use is practical, resilient, and occasionally even "attractive". This product is NO exception to the those aforementioned observations. ' Doing intensive "dry-firing" magazine exchanges has shown me that the unit is quick to activate, remains solidly in the installed position with absolutely no movement whatsoever, and is comfortable even after repetitive use, far beyond what would really occur in a combat environment having no sharp ridges or protrusions! There are three set-screws to "lock" the unit in place. Two on the inside or facing the shooter, and one on the opposite side about a half and inch further down toward the end of the magazine latch itself. One word of caution, which is obvious now in hindsight, but almost ruined the first unit installed. Be careful, not to over-tighten any of the set screws based on the dissimilar material (set screws being steel, the unit itself a "space-age" polymer). If you over tighten a screw it will begin to back out on you with the first visual indication a "thread" of the polymer moving out through the hex-screw access point. Again, had I been more focused on what I was actually doing and with what material was used in the manufacture of the two components, I wouldn't have had even the first indication of "trouble". With "gorilla glue" as an expanding binding agent, I salvage the unit but may pay a price in doing so, should I ever have the need to either remove or exchange the unit during my lifetime, a possibility I consider extremely unlikely regardless of my age. I think being able to release the magazine with your trigger finger while you dig out the next mag with your non-firing hand would make for a faster reload. |

Well maybe you just don't understand the nature of the AK Mag. Keeping your hand tightly around the Mag. while your thumb works the Mag. catch, is the ONLY real way to make sure you can remove the Mag. It's a ONE (1) hand operation, it is today it's been this way for many many many years. It is how the Russians do it and the Russians do it the correct way.

I did not think you were going to put it on your Mag. catch, I just know many have tried to make improvements to the Std. AKs Mag. catch over the years. All that happens is it has gotten many killed with them still trying to remove their empty Mags. |

Just look over on the AR side of this forum, you will find everything to make your AR better. Most of the items are JUNK. I would think people on the AK side are smarter then to get screwed with JUNK.

| AK mags don't drop free. You would still have to use your left hand to remove the mag, despite having "released" it with your trigger finger. Just try it: Insert and empty mag into your AK. Then, while holding the rifle in firing position, push the mag release without touching the mag... the mag just hangs there. You'll have to shake the crap out of it to get the mag to drop without using your left hand to remove it. However, it's a very natural motion to use your left hand to remove the mag when you activate the mag release with your left thumb (as intended by the designers). Hmmm... maybe that's the reason the mag release hasn't been changed in 63 years... because it works! This POS is about as usefull as tits on a boar. |

With it even tighter fitting mags do easily rock out and drop free––handsfree if you want. It also works conventionally as an extended mag release with the extension underneath and is simple and better at what it is than some of the other rivet on options. EMA TACTICAL RELEASE VID |

Many people have been killed while trying to extract empty magazines from AK rifles with extended mag catches? Can you cite some examples? Personally, if I'm attempting to move fast, I was taught to knock out the old mag with the front edge of the new one. That plastic thing might actually impair that method. |

Is it necessary? most definitely not.. But I have one on my ak74 anyway. It does make mag changes more comfortable IMO.
I'm not a conspiracy theorist though and never expect to need to grab an ak to defend myself (SBR ar with hornady tap or my .357sig p229 serve for home defense). |
