Some time ago, Molon had posted some poor results from his test of Wolf's 75-grain HP .223 load.
He had some left over and asked if I'd try it in the rifle I do most of my testing in, a Denny's Operator 16" barrel, M4 stock, and B&L 2.5-16x50 scope in a LaRue mount, with a LaRue FF tube. A couple weeks ago, I had time to shoot (marriage has drastically altered my range schedule...  ) but wasn't able to chronograph because of the rain.
I fired two ten-round groups of the ammo, from a sandbagged bench at 100 yards. Results were as followed: Group 1: Number of Shots=10 Mean Radius=1.832 in Max Radius=3.408 in Extreme Spread=5.437 in Radial Std Dev=2.078 in 2RadialSD=4.156 in 3RadialSD=6.235 in Group 2: Number of Shots=10 Mean Radius=1.324 in Max Radius=2.205 in Extreme Spread=3.698 in Radial Std Dev=1.506 in 2RadialSD=3.012 in 3RadialSD=4.518 in The second group fell entirely within the first group. This test isn't really statistically meaningful, but for now, I'd recommend against buying any Wolf 75 grain HP .223 for any purpose that required a high degree of accuracy. |
