I fired 112 rounds of the Hornady steel cased 75Gn "practise" load, hornady item #9760 today. Weapon was a 14.5" 1:7 Bushmaster M4. No accuracy testing today, i was only at a 25Y range. Did fire the first 20 rounds into a 3/4" group at that range (Aimpoint). I had no stoppages of any kind. Things i noticed. It was a little more smokey than XM193 or M1A3, but not as bad as Wolf. I inspect all of the fired cases. There were no pierced or popped primers. I did find very small case neck splits on 2 of the 112 fired cases. The splits were less than 1/4" long. Overall i think its good ammo for its intended use of a lower cost training load for those already shooting 75Gn Horn TAP. LE Agencies, individual officers and military personal can buy the ammo factory direct for $107.80/500 delivered. Yu must call Hornady LE sales, fax a copy of your credentials and when they receive them they will call you to take your order. Wait time for my last order was approximately 9 weeks. |
I find the biggest issue with not having feed ramps is carbines without them are slightly more magazine sensative. If you test all your mags and throw out any that have failures to feed you can eliminate the majority of feed failures in a carbine. |

Update: Tried it in another carbine. This time a DPMS 16" 1:7 with .223 chamber. 56 rounds with no failures of any kind and no split case necks from this carbine. Makes me wonder if they are loading it with .223 dies and the 5.56mm chamber of the first test carbine was ther cause of the split case necks? BTW: it shot more accurately than Black hills (NATO) 77Gn Noslers in this carbine. |
