I was wondering if any of you guys have chronographed the new wolf poly 223 55gr stuff yet? If so could you post the data? Shot 400+ rounds through 20" chromed bbl Bushy flawlessy today. Fast and slow. Also zeroed in a new scope (the slow part, used LC). I could swear it felt like some boxes were hot while others were not? none felt like 3241 or thereabouts. Box says 223 so I assume it's not the higher pressure mi-spec 5.56 (hear that Wolf!) Also fired mixed mags of Wolf ,PMC,and Lake City LC was noticeable (no surprise) Wolf seemed to fluctuate above and below PMC. Kinda makes it hard to follow a ballistics chart from the manufacturer (for scope work). My MAK90 (5.56)liked it too |

chasmcg, This guy just got done with a case of the Polymer Wolf in a single Bushmaster civvie M4orgery. http://forums.stoppingpower.net/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4876&whichpage=1 Give it a look see, though if you post, make sure you follow the rules. Been tinkering with the stuff myself and am finding it better than PMC by a good margin. 100% better than the oldcrap, but still "Soft" and not the same as good M193/M855. Hope this helps. S-28 |

chasmcg, I gotta wonder if the Ruskies are using the same burn rate powder fo both the 55 and 62gr stuff and are just loading to pressure limits, and allowing for economy. The marked difference between the 16" and 14.5" tube being so different and all... Who knows. The stuff is cheap, and ya gotta give up something here and there. I have half a case of the 55 gr coming just to tinker with. Glad that helped! S-28 |

Ok Here it is and hope you work for Wolf: From S-28's link above. FroToday, the Sinestere' sub committee of the "Covert Comittee to promote epicurian discord" met here in the swamp, to finalize the torture test of my beloved M4 and the new Wolf Polymer coated 62gr .223 ammo. Talker volunteered both of his pet AR rifles to the data base. #1 is a std. 20" bushmaster A2 HB that has been fitted with an accuracy speaks trigger, and a few other tweaks to enhance her inate ability to be uncommonly accurate. this rifle got the nickname thanks to it's ability to gurantee a smile no matter who was shooting the thing, and with whatever ammo. This rifle is exceptional all around and breaks most of the rules when it comes to flat out consistent accuracy. I have seen the thing shoot in the .3's more than once. #2 is a 16" Bushmaster A2 upper combined with and M4 Barrel, a Rock River lower and a surplus A1 butt stock, and some mix and match internals. I built the thng, and it is probably the tightest "Mutt" AR I ever let out of my shop. It wont challenge at Camp Perry, but is extremely accurate for a mutant, and boringly reliable. We kicked off the day with some chrono work so as to illustrate the difference between the new Wolf Polymer coated ammo, and several commercially available loads. Temp. was in the late 30's, so we were in shirtsleeves and leiderhosen. heck of a nice day! Wind. It just didn't exist. Dead calm! first time since August. In order of firing over the screens. Wolf 62gr Polymer coated. Lot#153-03 (The case I bought to do this little test.) Rifle 20" Bushy A2 HB. 1st 10 rnd string. lo-2730 Hi-2838 Avg. 2777 ES.-107.2 SD-36.55 2nd 10 rnd. string lo-2716 Hi-2796 avg.-2753 ES.-80.39 SD.-30.83 Next up came Talkers #2 rifle with the 16" barrel with the Wolf Polymer coated 62gr ammo. #1 10 rnd string. lo-2716 Hi-2796 avg.-2753 ES-80.39 SD-30.83 #2 10 rnd string. Lo-2632 Hi-2740 avg-2687 ES-108.2 SD-39.10 From there we broke out a mix of stuff that is on the market for comparison. Bushy 16" Santa Barbera 62gr. Lot #02-50-93 Lo-2882 Hi-2924 Avg-2911 ES-42.15 SD-11.87 Bushy 16" PMC 55gr FMJ. Lot# 223A-133 Lo-2967 Hi-3053 Avg-3002 ES-86.08 SD- SD-25.31 16" Bushy Black hills 50gr V-Max Lt#1206050978 Lo-2982 Hi-3158 Avg-3089 ES-175.8 SD-53.07 From there the Rest and the bags were broken out and some accuracy work was done using the 20" Bushmaster A2 HB with a Weaver V-24 scope in a Smith carry handle mount that has proven itself to be consistent in the past. To be impartial, Talker did the shooting. But then he is always game for burning someone elses ammo and keeps the giggling to a respectfull minimum. All groups are 5 shots, fired at 100M. Wolf Polymer 62gr Same lot as before. 1.617 Santa Barbera 62gr. same lot as before. 2.019 PMC 55gr. same lot as before. 1.812 Black Hills 50gr V-Max same lot as before. .535 Talker handload 50 gr. Sierra Blitzking. 1.204 So that's the raw data. The New Wolf stuff ain't gonna take Perry this year, but it is interesting that it is more accurate in this rifle than the PMC and Santa Barbera.. It is also interesting that the Wolf is underpowered by a good margin as is evident by the chrono numbers. The New Wolf ammo will not be loaded into any of my "Ready Mags" for any reason. I'll spend a bit more for that fodder and load the "Good stuff". At this point MSU721 showed up, smelling free trigger time and potentially free food and drink...from 12 Miles away. (The Kid has a NOSE!!!!) Having almost half a case of ammo left to burn we selflessly went to work returning the lead and cupronickle back into mother earth from which it came. All sorts of presentation drills along with the simple "Burn it through the tube so we can get some chow" ensued. In the end My Bushmaster M4 consumed 930 rounds of the new Wolf Polymer coated ammo without a SINGLE malfunction that could even be remotely ammo related without cleaning or re-application of lube to the rifle. There was a total of 7 malfunctions that were attributed to the same sorry and pathetic magazines with the black followers.(Have the green followers and new springs waiting.) The sun was getting low and the Temp dipped into the sub freezing range so we packed things up and retired to the shop for some scrubbing while digesting the Pizza that had to be purchased to keep MSU from gnawing on the furniture. Clean up of the M4 was not that bad. Carbon was not excessive considering the round count. Frankly, I deal with Weapons that are MORE fouled with less ammo daily. This new Wolf stuff is cleaner than some of the commercial and Re-Man fodder that is on the market. The Bore was not a problem. 20 strokes with the Brush and simple green followed by 3 patches had things coming out grey. Sweets 7.62 was applied and the first patch came out medium blue, the second was a light blue smudge. Did I mention I LOVE Chrome bores!!! Carbon adhesion on the bolt flange was heavy but not tenacious. Clean up from 930 rounds since the last cleaning took approx 45 Min. Extractor wear is ZERO! Only at the points of contact with the bolt is any wear noticed. Bolt face showed no signs of wear. Brass deflector was clean and free of dents. Chamber was free of the disgusting MUNG that is typical with the old Wolf garbage, and no unusual wear was noted. Not even a shiney spot to indicate wear or abrasion. No missfires, no hangups, no burbles, no obvious wear and tear. This little tryst with the Wolf is OVER!!!!!! My thoughts. The stuff ain't bad given the scope of utility. The stuff is cheap, and works without beating up the rifle. Accuracy is so-so. There is a place for this stuff. It ain't a lot of things, but it works safely. It isn't frontline defensive ammo, i would not bring it with me to a rifle course, i would not use the stuff in competition. I will however use the stuff for practicing short range engagements where a high volume of ammo is expended. Hope you guys have as much luck with it as I did. E4E P.S.
