Greetings Denny,

I have a quick question for you regarding the weight of your OPERATOR barrel, generated in part by this thread.

Basically, some folks are under the impression that the 16" OPERATOR mid-length barrel is only four ozs heavier than a 16" gov't. profile mid-length barrel.
According to Forest's weight table, a 16" gov't. profile mid-length barrel weighs 1.6 lbs (25.5 ozs).

Now, looking at the weight figures published on your Web site, the 16" OPERATOR mid-length barrel weighs 2.5 lbs (40 ozs). That's .9 lbs (14.5 ozs) more, correct?

But, the data found in this thread indicates that the OPERATOR barrel weighs 2.2 lbs (35 ozs), or .6 lbs (9.5 ozs) more than a 16" gov't. profile mid-length.

By any chance, do you know which is correct?  4 ozs more, 9.5 ozs more, or 14.5 ozs more?

And I apologize if I'm shitting on your thread; that definitely isn't my intention.  It's just that your IM feature is disabled (last time I checked) and I thought it'd be better to ask you here than in your EE thread.  Either way, if you feel this post is inappropriate, please let me know and I'll remove it ASAP.

Thank you for your time Denny.  May you and yours have a very happy holiday season.

Take care and G-d bless.

Best Regards,

Justin

EDIT: It seems the weights posted were including the front sight base, barrel nut, and flash hider, which added 9.5 ozs to the overall weight of the barrel.  It is my understanding that the correct stripped weight of Denny's 16" mid-length OPERATOR barrel is 27.5 ozs.

Hell, we did the weights a couple of years ago some were done with and without front sights and the comparison barrel was a 16" LMT.  I have no idea what barrel Forest weighed and what was on the barrel at the time he weighed it.  Did it have a front sight? barrel nut? flash hider?  Delta Ring?

The weights I state in the ad have an error, and should read 2lbs 5 OZ not 2.5 lbs. for my barrel with a front sight base and barrel nut and flash hider.  I will edit the post..  The heavier weight is with front sight, flash hider barrel nut and Delta assembly

The Operator is simply the best 4150 Chromemoly vanadium chrome lined barrel on the market.

Thanks for finding my two year old typo Slicker..

Denny

I was entirely unaware that the weights posted were including a FSB (5.2 ozs), barrel nut (2 ozs.), and flash hider (2.3 ozs.).  As far as I recall, that was not mentioned in the ad.

Either way, that means the stripped weight of your OPERATOR barrel is 1.7 lbs. (27.5 ozs), so my apologies for the error.  Had I known the weights poster posted were not for a stripped barrel, but one with FSB, barrel nut, and FH, I wouldn't have posted.

Again, I apologize for the mishap.  I'll edit my posts to reflect this clarification.

Best Regards,

Justin

EDIT: spelling.

This barrel seems to be exactly what I have been looking for! I need an accurate 16" upper to pin onto my issued M4 for use as a SDM.  I was looking at some SS barrels, but I just don't know how great they would do with the torture I would put them through as a military rifle. I was looking at using the VLTOR VIS 3 for the upper when it is available. I was wondering if that is a product you would have, and if so what I would be looking at for a package cost on that.

SUPER DUTY BOLT CARRIER GROUP M16

Hafta tell you.  The operator barrel is practically a piece of art.  By that I mean that everything is right. The front sight is on straight, The M4 feed ramps line up properly with the feed ramp cuts in the upper (I have barrels where this alignment is off to one degree or another and I find it annoying when I pay a good price for a barrel, even thoug they still feed ok) , the balance is right, and the puppy just plain shoots. For hard use and a barrel that is simply going to be right in the first place you can't go wrong with the operator. The Larue upper wasn't out when I built my operator but I'll probably be fixing that situation soon. Time for me to get another while I can.

Denny, I assume these are button rifled? How are they marked and who did the MPI?

Nice work.

Denny,

Forgive me for asking, but do you have plans for a 14.5" carbine gas OPERATOR barrel?

Hi Denny.

After shooting the operator for a year I would like to make some changes to it.  I'd like to get rid of the YHM stuff and go with a Daniel Defense rail and a FSB.

Can I ship my upper back to you for the changes or is it easier on you to just buy a new upper, barrel and rail ??

Thanks,
Dennis

Never received the FSB.  You assembled the upper with the YHM flip front.  I don't think yjr barrel was ever drilled for the FSB pins

Are you in teh shop today?  We can get this nailed down quick one way or another in a phone call.

Not at this time.  I am kicking around the idea of an 11.5 however.

Denny

Damn.  An 11.5" would probably sell like hot cakes.  Is it likely that you'd offer one at a later point in time (i.e., 12-18 months)?  In other words, is it something that's worth pursuing or is the market just too small?

Also, one other question for you.  Do you know if these are single-point cut rifled or pull button rifled?  I went on Rock Creek's site and it says that the blanks made by Mike are single-point rifled and the ones made by Kim are pull button rifled.

Best Regards,

Justin

Yes, Rock Creek button rifled barrel blanks that are finished by Compass Lake Engineerng.  CLE does the MPI.

Barrel markings are "DG"(Dennys Guns) CMP, 1H9H {The Cage Code).

Denny

These are most likely his OEM production barrels which are button rifled. Plenty good for a chrome lined stick.

Merry Christmas Denny!

I'm sold.  One of these would fit just right on that LMT Shot Show Speical I got from you way back when.

One question, will a KAC medium length free float RAS fit on the barrel with the standard FSB?

Denny I just bought one of your operator barrels look forward to hooking this bad boy up and seeing how well it shots. Are you going to keep these in the works for the near future or is this a special run for a short time. I will order another one in the future.

Denny,
I just completed a build and have another one planned "real soon". What I would like to build is very accurate CQB rifle 16". Sense I'm still some what new building AR weapons I may not be asking the right questions so bear with me. Basically, I want this weapon to be an M4 and I'm leaning to the Operator barrel even though it's not a true M4 profile. Should I purchase the barrel do you have a bolt carrier group of equal high quality that you will "match or test fit" with the barrel? Is that a dumb question?
The barrel will be matched with a LaRue Upper and most likely a SunDevil Gen2 Lower. One other thing, when it is completed I will have it done in "OD". I know there is DuraCote, but there is another finish out there that's supposed to be much better. Do you know what it's called?

OK Denny, I'm open to your suggestions.

Denny,
Will you make a 4150 version of the LRSPR barrel in 5.56?
If so, any rough ideas on availability and cost.
Thanks

Ain't that the truth!  I wasn't home long enough last time to play with the new toys you last built for me, and I've already ordered more like that Operator build the other day and am planning to pick up an 11.5 Operator when available!    Arghhhh!

Denny, just tell me that the 11.5 Operator will fit a KAC M4 RAS and an AAC M4-2000 mount!?
