LINK to old thread... Duracoat Tiger Stripe Brown that seems to change color depending on the lighting No two pieces were left together- I completely disassembled the entire rifle Sandblasted old finish A2 and Front Sight Base are Duracoat Flat Black and turned out well. I would have liked to leave the A2 park'd but it was too light and almost the same color as the SS barrel. I also DC'd a Vortex G6 (not G6A2) but like the standard mil. A2 better... you are talking about the bolt release being TS Brown and the others being Black? My thinking was the bolt release is kinda big and I didn't really want to have the sharp contrast anymore. Simplydynamic complimented me on the contrasting black and tan parts and that was very flattering but I didn't want to mess with the bolt release and it's roll pin. Silver scratches on a black rifle is nice but black scratches on a tan rifle looks sloppy The safety and backside of the mag release is a mixture of green and tan that both need to get fixed somehow. The green and tan on the pins in the lower didn't even hold their color well. I scraped most of it off with my fingernail. When I added the greens and tans to the previous TS Brown rifle, I didn't disassemble it and they were all painted. They are too smooth and small to try and paint. Thanks for your opinions though. I just didn't want to paint the high-wear safety and mag release and have them wear... I will fix them, any suggestions? |

Thanks guys. redfisher- nice smilies and thanks for the trifecta! WMHM4- That is a black magpul MIAD that I painted. I painted all of the various bits separately too except for storage compartments. You should be able to see that it's still black in some photos- #5 is a good place. curt- the funny thing is- I had a few layers (as JTAC points out) of DC to get through with some of them being large heavy stripes. While blasting some of the stripes, I did start to get through the anodizing adjacent to them- the black started to get a purple haze to it. That's when I stopped trying to get down to all black again. I didn't want to ruin anything. I was able to blast the DD for a long time without going through their anodizing. I was able to blas all of the paint off and get back to the white engraved lettering on both sides... Thanks again to the rest of you. I WILL be taking more BETTER pictures with a more interesting background as soon as the sun decides it will stay out longer and brighter... You will see it turn a bright tan in good sunlight. |

Thanks guys. I really apreciate the comments. I need more gear and doodads like vests and helmets for really good pictures like Stickman's. The case is a TacForce case. ADCO sells them but I got mine from www.savvysurvivor.com. He's got all of the sizes in all three colors and the best prices. It's the tan one and it came with the tan velcro-backed mag pouch. I bought the TacForce OD green mag pouch from Island Tactical for $20. They didn't have tan in stock  I've got all of the pictures in their original glory at 2048x1600 resolution if you'd like a wallpaper-suitable version. I tried making links to them but I have to get with our office internet guru about why I can't link to them without a login... ETA: I used to use a nail punch with the dimple in the tip to help keep from slipping off of the pins... |
I don't have pins- just 4 set screws!! You will need to pound them out from the left side of the rifle out the right side- same direction as the brass flies. Get a hockey puck to set your FSB on when you pound. Drill oversized holes where the pins will come out and if you can, relive the top of the hockey puck so your barrel and FSB will fit in nicely. |
