ETA: THE ORIGINAL LIST HAS BEEN REPOSTED IN THE ORIGINAL THREAD - MODS, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO LOCK THIS AS IT IS NO LONGER NEEDED   www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=118&t=242923

Original thread (and more complete) is located in the AR15 Discussions Forum, linked in the tacked thread: "THE IMPORTANT THREADS AND INFO".

@ - When prefixed to a member's name, means that the following comment is directed "at" or to that member.
. - Used to add a post without typing anything, means "+1 to my post count, I have no new comment" or the same thing as BTT. Also sometimes left behind as a placeholder when someone deletes the content from a post.
+1 - When used with a quote, means the same thing as "Ditto". When used in the EE feedback forum, means a good experience with either a buyer or seller. When just posted with no reference, it means "+1 to my post count, I have no new comment" or the same thing as BTT...

A - ALPHA
A1 - Of or referring to a characteristic of the M16A1 (for example, an A1 rear sight)
A2 - Of or referring to a characteristic of the M16A2 (for example, an A2 flash hider)
A3 - Of or referring to a characteristic of the M16A3, or (in civilian parlance) a flat-top receiver. Note that the M16A3 is essentially just a full-auto M16A2, but civilian manufacturers began using the term A3 for flat-top receivers before the military adopted the M16A3 and M16A4, so there is divergence between military and civilian usage of the term "A3". Without a definitive military context, it is most likely that "A3" refers to a flat-top, civilian upper receiver. Note also that some civilian manufacturers call their flat-tops A3, others A4.

Squeeze - don't jerk - the trigger evenly and straight to the rear. By squeezing you avoid jerking a shot and throwing off your POI(point of impact). You should never anticipate the round being fired. F Follow Through. When following through - with your shot - trigger is pulled all the way to the rear. Allow the weapon do it's thing on recoil. Since the original poster chose to delete the content from the Acronyms and Abbreviations thread:  www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=118&t=242923

Well, this is rather pointless now.   I tried to contribute to the site, but apparently my contribution was unwanted.  So be it.

The Acronym list was salvaged from the ARCHIVE server:

Feel free to post any others and I’ll get them updated until the original author decides to put back the information in his thread.

I noted one (and just one) problem: DPMS is not on its own line.  There are a couple of items that need to be bolded too.  Otherwise, this is awesome!  Without specifying, I have managed in just scanning the list to learn several terms I'd just had to gloss over and hope to figure out from context, not wanting to show how stupid I was and ask (and they were really dumb ones I should have figured out, too).

Thanks, I'll go over it tonight and revive some of the links too.

I should also have mentioned two very important additions:

STFW: Search The Freakin' Web (or something like that)-self explanatory
GIYF: Google Is Your Friend-less imperitive and abrupt (thus less rude) than the above

Both go with RTFM, which of course goes without saying.

Not exactly. The thread was untacked to reduce the clutter at the top of the first page.

As a long-time lurker, and rare-poster, I have to ask, because I do not understand.

Why would anyone want to be in a thread before it gets locked?  I see people post "IBTL" all the time, without otherwise contributing to the thread - and i just dont understand . . . .
