Excellent write-up.  I appreciate technical posts such as this which help to renew my faith in the site after browsing the Active Topics section.

Recently created an M4gery with a Colt 6921 HB upper and a permanently attatched (blind pin & weld) Vortex G6.  Beautiful and effective.

We'll drop in a couple .458 SOCOM Vortex pictures - the biggest of the Vortex models until Ron finishes up the M2 Vortex for the .50 BMG...

L to R:  .458 SOCOM, M14 Direct Connect,  AR15 G6

L to R:  Same as above...  Bet you can't guess which the the .458 is...

Anecdotal Evidence: My rifle equipped with a Vortex does show a tendency towards delicious accuracy with good ol' XM193 ammo.

I have been shooting with the old straight tine model for years and never had it come loose.
I use a A1 style split lock washer.

Here's a pic of my first Vortex.   I put paper in the tines so you can see the shape.   I sold it on the EE, and run the new G version now.

I would like to see this Brennan NIL-Flash.    I have the  pics from the mushroomed Vortexes (Vorteci?) if you need them.   I'm also missing the pic of Sonja Summers all decked out.

Pics for your (dis)pleasure. As you can see material is taken way too much.

Here is couple of more pics of Vortex´s I made myself. Diameter of tool cutting the flutes should be exactly half of the inner diameter of Vortex. Otherwise results are as on the earlier model.

This is kind of like a completely useless thread slash gonna wonder why I saved these pictures one year from now.

But interesting at the moment.

Hmmm.................just ran across this and paid attention when I read it.

I still have that straight tine Vortex around somewhere.  Maybe I should keep it for "collector value", like a Colt carbine.
