And let's talk Colt weirdness.  Here's the Blue Label R6601 I bought in June 1990. I ordered the rifle just as soon as Colt made them available again. At the time I was working in a sporting goods store and we got two HBARs in. I got to choose which one I wanted, though I believe they were marked the same. The owner's buddy got the other one and I don't recall who he was so there's no way I can track that rifle down. It sure would be interesting to see.  The receiver is your standard SP1 type slabside lower in all aspects and features.  I've know for several years this is a rather unique rifle. It has all the A2 features and furniture but is built on the SP1type lower. In fact, I've seen pics of more than a few AR15A2 marked rifles with higher serial numbers (SP range) than my obviously later built and marked rifle. This leads me to believe that Colt makes/made runs of receivers and stamp only the serial number on them at the time of manufactor. Then add the model and other rollmarks when it finally assembles the rifles. Thus my lower numbered receiver went into a bin first and was pulled out and asssembled after earlier models with higher serial numbers. So let's see yours and talk and compare Colt weirdness.  |
That rifle is a Green Label and was made around 1988 Call Colt to verify |
Colt did tell me that it was built in 1990, that's why I was wondering if it could be a white label, even though it has a slabside and is a large pivot pin. Didn't know green labels were built that late. Called Colt back about the date, they said 1990 was an approximate date. They recommended that I talk to archives, and for a fee they can give me exact info. Left my name & no. for a call back from archives. Call back from Colt verifies it was indeed built in 1990. |
Cool! I thought there was something up with the plain AR15 logo and A2 features. Hadn't thought of a LEO rifle. Even the SP1's had Sporter stamped in the markings. |

At one point, when I wasn't exactly sane, I had one of every model number Colt ever made (including that 6511), and some doubles or triples of others. In a moment of sanity, about a year before the ban expired, I got scared that all of those guns would be worth nothing if the ban expired. I took a gamble, and disposed of much of my collection. It hurt, it really hurt, but not as much as the hurt would have been if I still owned those 40+ Colts and the ban went away.

Sold all my pre-bans after the 2002 elections. Figured that the assault weapons ban was dead with a Republican Congress and President. |
