Which should I buy, the SAW 10" for $1695 or the 11.5" 6933 from JB/SPIWAK for $1,495.  And by the way what is a SOCOM Barrel?

I went with the 11.5" 6933 from SPIWAK for $1,325.00each. Actually two.

The SOCOM barrel is heavier under the handguards than the gov profile M4.

Well, SAW is a dick, an 11.5 is more effective, and in this case it's cheaper.  Seems like a no-brainer to me.

And get a Noveske Krink Flash Hider when you get a short gun.  Your ears will thank you.

I just got a couple of very nice e-mails from Tina at SAW yesterday on an order of stuff coming my way.  Every Colt of mine goes to SAW for the reliability upgrade.  I love these guys.

I have the 6933 over at the FFL's shop, waiting for the tax stamp.  Howard is a great guy and I'm glad to have gotten it, but had I known that SAW had the carbine in a 10" configuration, I would have gotten it.  I asked Tina about the history of their version and she replied:

We have actually had a special purpose carbine for many years now . . . .  We did one for the SLC Olympic Games; Santa Monica Police Dept, Irving, TX PD and many others have been using these from us in various configurations since the late 90’s.


Oh yeah, the Krink really works.  Had the opportunity to check it out at a course in southern VA a few months ago and I was impressed with its performance.

I spent a little time with it today as a matter of fact

Great little carbine

The barrel is marked: C  MP  CB   -No twist #s.

Not sure if twist matters much for such a short barrel, and I suspect it is 1/9, although not sure why

Yep.

It is a lightweight barrel diameter (hence the LWT designation) - not the SOCOM

In fact, I am not sure of a SOCOM barrel as a 11.5 or 10" offering

A fellow Dealer/member - skich- offers 14.5" M4 SOCOM barrels for sale in the EE

Go here and buy a 6933 upper.  You could swap out the barrel or have it cut down. . .
