pulled up to my place for some remodeling work....after working for about 15 minutes i hear BOOM!... so i run outside and see my truck in flames, apparentley the boom i heard was the tire blowing....the whole front end is burnt to a crisp. what a morning  {update} so the engineer that was used by my insurance company said it was the battery and it was the original one from dodge so it looks like a manufacturers defect and a possible future recall  pictures added    |
i thought tires only blew up and caught stuff on fire in movies ... holy shit!! |
| apparentley a fuel injector problem...i saw my dad on the road we stopped and i cut my motor off so we could talk..when i went to crank it ,,,it sputtered and died a few times then cranked....since then it happened a few times but this is all i know..the drive to my place is 30 miles from where i live now so apparentley all i can think of is fuel leak from possible injector...then on the manifold and then fire... |
they do but apparentley the tire was on fire that cause it to blow....since it was under 40 psi and the weight of the motor and tranny on it also ..it went boom when it melted new 180 dollar tire also

Hopefully an investigation will show a manufacturing defect and Dodge can pay for your truck and contents. Damn you should have taken that "lost" Van Gouh painting out of the truck before the fire started. Damlier/Chrysler that will be 1.2 million dollars you owe me

The injectors themselves Rarely leak , It's usually the O-rings that seal them to the rail that leak and that does happen , but I seriously doubt it was an injector problem . A non running vehicle lacks an ignition source for gasoline . Since gas does not ignite easily from heat alone like diesel does . Every port fuel injected vehicle out there sprays raw fuel over a °400+ intake valve without igniting it . 90% of vehicle fires are electrical , and 70% of those are from aftermarket accessories/wiring like lights , stereos , snow plows , winches etc . |

The parking lot whare I work probably has hundreds of Hemi powered vehicles in it at any one time. So far, I have never seen (or heard of) one catch fire. Shit happens and could happen to any vehicle with a pressurized fuel injection system. Hell, there is a diesel out that runs 24,000 psi injector pressure! Ever see those big burnt spots on the sides of the freeways? All car fires. But still, if I had to guess, I'd say the connector between the fuel supply line and the engine failed. |

No flame intended, Sarge, but yes they do sometimes just start leaking...I have had to replace a few cracked injectors in different vehicles that I have owned over the years. Pressure is delivered to the injectors by a fuel pump and the injector opens and closes, letting out a metered amount of fuel. If there is a crack or a hole in the injector or the fuel line feeding it, it will spray gas into the engine compartment. Personally, I wouldn't buy anything made by Dodge (including a Mercedes) but sounds like this could have happened to any brand of vehicle. |

So are you saying that (i) Jeep is not owned by DaimlerChrysler and (ii) Renault's 44.3% ownership stake in Nissan is a "minor" stake? |

| Vehicle fires happen from time to time, most are electrical, but truthfully it is a bit hard to tell when the suckers burnt to a crisp. My cousins 72 Blazer [sweet truck] combusted at a wedding. He thought it was a joke when someone told him his truck was on fire, Nope. Coming home from work at about 1AM in Feb. [work for utility company on gas side.] and about 2 blocks from home saw a brand new 05 county truck [05 chevy 2500] on fire in the guys driveway. pulled in called 911 and attd to put the fire out with a 20pound ansul 5? fire ext. HAHAHA, not even close tho it did help to keep the fire from spreading to his garage til the FD got there. Had 500 miles on it. Guy had it home on call. Front was burnt to a crisp, bed was still surprisinly good. Stuff happens. |

A possible failure mechanism would be a failed wheel bearing and/or brake problem that causes the wheel to get so hot that the tire bead actually melts off of the wheel. While not a live axle, we had this happen once when pulling a tent trailer that had surge brakes. Apparently the brake shoe(s) on one side of the trailer didn't fully disengage thereby heating the hub to cause the wheel bearings on that side to fail (bearings had a PLASTIC cage if you can believe that). We were tooling down I-84 in the Columbia gorge and decided to whip into a campground for the evening. We took the campground exit and as we were motating slowing through the campground looking for a spot, we heard a big BOOM that was the tire exploding on our trailer. I stopped and grabbed a fire extinguisher as smoke poured from one of the trailer wheelwells. Fortunately, nothing caught fire...just lots of smoke (mostly from brake fluid, I think, but could have been the tire). I theorize that coming down off the highway removed alot of cooling air from the wheel and the tire finally blew off the wheel due to the bead melting. Fortunatley, we were right in front of a very nice (and empty) camp spot so we pushed our crippled trailer into it and I started playing mechanic. I spent the next day replacing the wheel bearings, getting a new tire, etc. Turned out to be a GREAT weekend as the campground was VERY nice and the weather was great. I don't know if a similar scenario would be plausible for this Dodge pickup or not, but a tire exploding with smoke/flame can really happen. |

trust me you dont....this ordeal has already cost me about 5k +- seeming that i only owe about 10 k on the truck ...and most of my intrest was paid ...and a stereo radar dector ..leuopold spotting scope and a brand new pioneer head unit for my home stereo are gone... |
| Wow, if something like that happend to my new '04(it was a left over that I got a month ago with just 260 miles on it.) I'd be pissed and sick about it all at the same time. I've got the 3.7L, V6, hopefully they don't have that problem. I really do love my new truck but dang Dodge, they've had their problems. I paid extra for the 7/70 Bumper to Bumper warrenty so if anything does go wrong they'll fix it. Best of luck to ya' pard, hope you get things worked out and get a new truck soon.
