Land of the Dead... (Bar none the suckiest Zombie flick I've seen,) features AR's..... or at least a lot of rubber duckies. +1 It'd be pretty hard to beat out LOTD on the suck meter. Vampires vs. Zombies was worse. Lesbian vampires battling Zeds, how could they possibly fuck it up??

These weren't just 22 uppers, they were 22 cal rifles. I cannot remember the manufacturer right at the moment.
If you watch the movie close you can see one of the small 22 mags being inserted into the gun. It happens when Peter is in the airplane hanger. He has just fired at the zombie kids, and is reloading his rifle right before the bald zombie walks in. It is a quick shot but you can clearly see that the magazine is not a real AR mag. Maybe tonight I will try to get a couple screen grabs to post if anyone is interested. |

Ok....here they are. These pictures are not super clear but they show what the phony M-16s really are. These pics are from the original Dawn of the Dead film and show that the M-16s used the film were actually 22 rifles. These scenes are when Peter is in the airport and right about the time we see the famous bald headed zombie show up.
The first picture is when Peter is changing magazines after shooting the kid zombies. He is removing the magazine in this picture. 
This isn't a real good picture but the bottom of the fake magazine is facing the camera and the .22 magazine is missing. In the movie you are offered a quick glance of the hole in the bottom of the fake magazine. 
Here is a picture of Peter loading the fresh .22 magazine into the fake magazine.

In that case the AR in I Am Legend was select fire also. and it is my opinion that they had more charistics of vampirism and were like vampires more so than zombies, but were actully just infected and mutated living humans. at least that was my take on their avoidence to light, being killed by any mortally lethal wound, and his looking for a cure to the disease. and "the omega man" as well as "the last man on earth" kinda went the same way. but then thier are more cases of broadening the spectrum of zombieism such as in the case of "the infected" in the movies "28 days and 28 weeks"...
